Anyone NEVER had tears at the school gate?

Dd had tears, not for too long, but bad enough. Am bracing myself for ds starting school nursery.
A few friends were discussing it, how it makes you feel cr*p etc when one said that not one of her 3 ever gave a backward glance, never any tears, never said they didn't want to go.

Anyone else had plain sailing settling in?

ds1 loves it

When ds1 started school 5yrs ago (OMG I feel old) i was the one who ended up with tears in my eyes not him. He didnt even give me a kiss goodbye, as soon as the classroom doors openedhe was gone. I didnt really want him to get upset but the fact he couldnt give two hoots about leaving me for the day was a bit upsetting, silly i know but i had bought him up single handedly since the age of 1 and all of a sudden he was a big boy going off to school, leaving me to count down the minutes until i could pick him up. Now i cant wait for him to go back to school
I think i will have tears when ds2 starts as he is quite clingy but thats not for another 2yrs. Hopefully he will change once he starts nursery in January.

I never had tears and the first day she gave me a kiss and then she was away so quick after that that if I want one I have to ask for it

NQWWW · 01/09/2006 20:38

I mostly have tears when I pick him up from school - when he's hoping for someone else to do it, when he wants to go to someone's house but hasn't actually been invited, when I haven't brought him a treat like the other mums....... Tears on drop-off might make me feel better!

Posey · 01/09/2006 20:44

NQWWW - Oh I know all about tears at collecting time (although now grown out of it), but the moans about why they've got a banana for snack not sweets like all their friends, why can't they go to the park/cinema/Timbuktoo like all their friends, why they can't play round their friends house like all their friends...
Still better than tears at dropping off though!

No tears here, was a bit........oooh at first, then I realised I had raised a confident self assured (at times cocky) child.

pedilia · 01/09/2006 20:48

Never had tears from DS1 at school but had plenty at nursery.

littlerach · 01/09/2006 20:56

No tears from DD1 when she started, but a few the second week when she told me she didn't kno who t play with at lunch times.

this from the girl who cried for the whole 18 months she was at nursery. But never cried at pre school either.

DD2 starts on esession a wweek at pre school thi sweek...we'll see.

imaginaryfriend · 01/09/2006 21:00

Dd hasn't cried yet, she's been at pre-school nursery for a year, but she does get very clingy and often has tears in her eyes which she 'bravely' smiles away. AGH it's bloody heartbreaking ...

dd had tears once at Reception last year - when I had to bring her home after lunch during her settling in period

Wasn't funny at the time though; it took me over 20 mins to get her through the school gate and another 10 mins to get her home.

And when I say tears, I really mean a full on4 yr old style tantrum.

Orlando · 01/09/2006 21:03

I never have with any of my 3, but that can make you feel a little cr*p, in its own way.

Miaou · 01/09/2006 21:12

Never had any probs with dd1 or dd2.

However, I was their nursery teacher and classroom helper for three years so maybe it was a bit of home-from-home

Blondilocks · 01/09/2006 21:13

Never from DD. I felt tearful though! We are lucky if we get a kiss goodbye most days!

DumbledoresGirl · 01/09/2006 21:14

The three of mine that have started school never cried once when they started. I don't know what ds3 will do but it is a year away yet and I will be very surprised if he cries when he goes - but then it does help to have siblings already at the school.

lucy5 · 01/09/2006 21:14

No tears from my dd either. Fingers crossed.

Miaou · 01/09/2006 21:15

Oh GOD Mercy that reminds me of dd1 - we used to have to break it to her gently when it was the weekend

LiliLaTigresse · 01/09/2006 21:15

wow
what a tough lot
had tears from dd at both nursery and for the first two weeks of school (reception)
then fine
I felt crap of course

DumbledoresGirl · 01/09/2006 21:16

DD (about to go into Yr 2) announced the other day that she preferred going to school to the holidays! I wonder if that says anything about me?!!

Cappuccino · 01/09/2006 21:17

dd1 always shot off

from 10 months to 6 yrs

never a backward glance

dd2 is more of the 'flinging herself at the door screaming for 20 minutes' mould

nikkie · 01/09/2006 21:21

None from DD2
DD1 used to cry in reception on certain days until one of her teachers (they were job share) realised the other one gave the 'upset' kids special jobs! It soon stopped !

my ds couldn't wait to go, not a problem from either of em, no tears here, from parents or children

NotQuiteCockney · 01/09/2006 22:36

DS1 never had tears. Well, once he had a fall on the way to school, and was still upset when we got to school, so we turned around and went home.

I expect DS2 to be the same - at 20 months, he recently started at a co-op nursery, and we had a few tears the first day, a tiny bit the next, and then none at all. I've asked him if he's looking forward to going back, when we're home, and he's always saying yes.
