AliceInWonderland pretty sure with all those 'passes' under your DS's belt he will get a very good offer. Has he done both W and T?

Stressedbutblessed · 12/02/2014 07:46

Poozie/Alice and everyone I'm sharing your angst - we only applied to 1 girls school and can't imagine waiting for 3/4/5Shock I thought I had it under control and out of mind.
This morning a registered letter ( that felt like it had cardboard inside as it wasn't bendy) arrived with a London postmark (we are overseas). In a split second the narrative that flew through my head was insane. It went from - it must be a yes, it's registered they obviously wanted to make sure we received it before school closes for the holiday, oh no do I really want to move back to the UK , to oh no what if it's a no Dd really wants to go there she'll feel really rejected and we don't have a back up yet and then should I shouldn't I open it whilst I'm home alone.
I picked the envelope thinking I would re- seal after peeking ... It was Theatre tickets DH booked for the summer [big grin]
Felt a right ninny!

MrsSteptoe · 12/02/2014 10:06

Alice, like everyone else said, with all those great scores, I can't stop you worrying, but something's really gone wrong if your DS doesn't get offers! I'm just waiting to hear your whoops of joy on Friday morning!

(I think I'm feeling so persistently despondent because DS passed the Selective Eligibility for Wilsons/Wallington, but didn't pass the second exams. It's left us all feeling a bit fearful of repeated experience, dreading that he'll be The Nearly Man, destined to clear the first hurdle but fall at the second. I know it's not hard evidence, but it really left him feeling hurt, despite our best efforts to present it as "just part of the learning curve" towards the Jan. exams. I would just love so much for him to be able to obliterate that experience with a good one on Friday...)

AliceLostinWonderland · 12/02/2014 10:11

Grin stressedbutblessed, I loved your post.

poozie, yes he sat T and W, done both interviews too.

Somelikeithott, MrsSteptoe and JustAnotherUserName...ThanksThanksThanks

And...LadyMuck a big Thanks for this thread.

I blame the mood swings on the weather!

bananadrama · 12/02/2014 10:17

Alice, Poozie & all the other anxious mums out there, I am with you all too. Feeling so anxious now . Not sure how well I am doing my job at the mo as am so distracted! I also don't want my DS to end up at our local comp. Let's hope we get the results we are happy with. Having gone through this already with DS1 I know that things can eventually come good even at the last minute. Hang on in there! (am saying this to myself too!)

AliceLostinWonderland · 12/02/2014 10:29

Oh MrsSteptoe a big hug coming your way from me. Like I said earlier I am certain Friday will bring you great news.

MrsSteptoe · 12/02/2014 10:34

Thanks, Alice xx

bananadrama · 12/02/2014 11:10

Mrs Steptoe, I was in a very similar situation to you 2 years ago, it all worked out in the end even though we felt all things were not going our way.

Stressedbutblessed · 12/02/2014 11:35

Wine cheers to you all for Friday! although lurking as I only have Dd this thread has been really reassuring reminding myself I'm probably delusional Not on my own in worrying!
Fingers x ladiesSmile

MrsSteptoe · 12/02/2014 11:35

Thanks, bananadrama - I'm shaking my head at myself a lot of the time this week. But I just can't help myself! Wink

Teddingtonmum1 · 12/02/2014 14:30

Feeling a bit of a fraud as we are already in the know , fingers crossed for everyone we had a bundle of no's ( Wilson , Wandsworth test , Christ hospital ) turned into a deranged for a moment but everything has worked out ( so far just got to gently negotiate bursary support next week - lady m need any pointers please !!) . DS was totally elated after getting a load of nos I think is really harsh for a 10 y.o but its alright in the end . Will be checking back Friday am for the results !!!

MrsSteptoe · 12/02/2014 14:32

Noooo, Teddington, we need the good news stories to buoy our spirits! Good luck for the bursary negotiations.

Teddingtonmum1 · 12/02/2014 17:05

Mrs S you'll be fine on the law of averages gotta get at least 2/3 offers then you'll have the new stress of which one to pick !!! #newproblems

LadyMuck · 12/02/2014 17:26

I'm almost definitely going to regret saying this, but if your ds has been interviewed post exam by more than one school, even if it is a rejection and not a WL, it is not the end of the process. There are still discussions to be had, and there will still be movement until the end of March and beyond. It will not be easy, it will not be fun, but the only people I know who didn't find a suitable place at one of their schools were those who gave up as soon as they got their letters. And that is also an understandable reaction - it has after all been a long haul since September. But you're able to see the last couple of years threads and you can see how late movements come through. And there'll be plenty of virtual support on here too.

The schools do not interview if there is not something that has been flagged up in terms of potential, but further investigation and discussion is needed to see where the gaps are. Some schools won't offer if they are obviously your insurance school for example. Others are dubious if you haven't done their open days and tours. It may be that your ds did better at one paper than another and more evidence is needed.

It is unfortunately a different ballgame if you haven't been interviewed. I have to say that IME to say that 2/3 interviews at W&T end in an offer seems a bit on the low side, but my view may be skewed by being in the private sector. I would expect at closer to 80% and probably more of those interviewed would get an offer.

Thanks for your words LadyM
Teddingtonmum1 it's not the end my dear. We too got a letter from Christ's Hospital on Sat saying Ds will be on reserve list since they can't fully confirm offer. We now have to wait for a child to drop out. So, please keep your head held high, and commend Ds for doing so well to go through the Res Assessment.
To everyone else waiting for D-Day on Friday, good luck.

Teddingtonmum1 · 12/02/2014 18:40

Brown sugar we didn't even make the residential DS completely flunked it after pressure from daddy who is against private education / boarding school his a level 5 stats and he came in the bottom third of the entry tests CH did email me and let me know as said to reapply at 13+ DS has a place at Reeds so guess we will see how it goes and if we are not happy we can secretly apply for W & CH again. but reeds would have to be a complete disaster before if consider it as not really fair to move I think. Am concerned with the new headmaster his going to turn into a hothouse after coming from Guildford grammar with his first headship but will have to see I guess.

Brownsugar3879 · 12/02/2014 22:38

Teddingtonmum1 having a place at Reeds is good. I know wish we had applied there.
Infact, the mind can not stop wondering if we have done enough, maybe we should have applied to more schools Wine

LadyMuck · 12/02/2014 23:02

Which ones have you gone for Brownsugar?

All my neighbours have different first choices, though I guess as a bonus we're all viewing that we can lift share if one of us doesn't get their first choice...

Asterisk · 12/02/2014 23:15

Trinity's ISI inspection report is also being released on Friday, just in case you want to consult that if you're in the happy position of having more the one offer to consider.

Teddingtonmum1 · 13/02/2014 00:07

Brown sugar if I'd of known now what I know now it was purely down to a mums netter that I even found out about reeds lambro I think , who put me on to it , for which I am enternally grateful my bank manager no so much I think ....

LadyMuck · 13/02/2014 10:57

I hope the letters go into an early post today.

First encounter with prep head today since in They already know results... I wonder if I can guess their password and hack their email?

Bored of waiting. Now what are you aall going to do with time!! Good luck all. Girls school threads have never really taken off. Maybe because they all do the same 3 or 4 schools and maybe with fewer lone ones from Primaries. Certainly some London preps get 30-40 places at one school ...anyone know any accurate numbers for those sitting Godolphin and latymer or NHEHS.

wanttoknow77 · 13/02/2014 11:05

Whilst we all wait for d-day ....I wanted to get some thoughts on commuting times...is anyone aware of DS' having over an hour's commute to T/W?

Dibbleofficer · 13/02/2014 11:06

Hey all, very good luck for tomorrow ....it needs to be a vat of red tonight!!
