So what have you spent on secondary transfer uniform so far?

About £195 for us with another £100 to go, I reckon.
Been told I should have managed it all for about £50. Confused
Anyone else want to share numbers?
I'm going to itemise it later, still have receipts, could take some back, in theory.
For a girl in my case.

About £200 on uniform and a further £100 on equipment.

Still to buy: school shoes, rugby boots, AstroTurf trainers.

Boy starting at state secondary.

Picturesinthefirelight · 13/07/2013 09:24

Dd starting an independent vocational school. Spent just over £200 which includes everything except a pair of tap shoes she would have needed anyway & a pair of converse which she's been asking for for 12 months.

I just need to get a couple of plain white blouses now.

Picturesinthefirelight · 13/07/2013 09:27

Checked receipt. We've got:

1 skirt
1 blazer
Pack of grey socks
Track suit
Official coat
Science apron
Tie
2 leotards
Ballet socks

Not included in figures:
New ballet shoes
New tap shoes
Converse
School shoes

Bumply · 13/07/2013 09:41

So far £22 on four white shirts. First tie is supplied - replacements cost £6. Will use primary school grey trousers til he grows out of them. He'll probably need new shoes and I've promised him a Superdry jacket - he's been plaguing me for one for months, and he'll need something waterproof for the longer walk to secondary school.

Bit different from my grammar school that had a posh looking uniform with blazer/gabardine/beret/boater and a hook specific skirt/blouse/jumper.

NoComet · 13/07/2013 09:48

List I did for this question when DD2 started last year
State secondary

Skirt £12
Blouse £5
Jumper £18
Trousers £12-£25 (next kids DD2, M&S ladies for much taller DD1)
Shoes £40
Socks/tights £10
Ties £5
=£103-126

PE
Skort £14
Polo shirt £7
Socks £6
Trainers £25
Tracksuit £28 (ok you don't have to have £18 named hoody)
=£80
Also Summer polo £7

That's £190 for uniform and in reality you need two packs of blouses (£20), three summer polo shirts (£21) and two jumpers (£36) and Sports mad DD3 could do with a second set of games kit (£21)
So that's plus 15, 14, 18, 21 =£68

£258 plus I got her a hockey stick and bag for Christmas.

It's a lot of money and if she was a boy it would be plus sports boots.

Picturesinthefirelight · 13/07/2013 09:51

I forgot two jumpers are also in my list of purchases

lljkk · 13/07/2013 10:18

Hmmm... I wonder what someone who only spends £50 does!! I still need to buy footie boots, a navy swimsuit, school shoes, tights, trousers and white socks.

Picturesinthefirelight · 13/07/2013 10:37

It's possible to only spend £50 for a non logo primary school - but for secondary? A blazer alone is between £30-70 depending on the school/type.

Dd is very happy she can wear converse instead of trainers with her track suit :).

Hulababy · 13/07/2013 10:41

£220 so far:

2 skirts
3 blouses
1 jumper
1 track suit
1 shorts
1 skort
1 PE top
1 house top
1 science coat
5 pairs tights
5 pairs sock
2 hair bobbles
1 school hymn book
1 house badge

Still to get:
1 base layer for PE (forget it somehow last week)
Blazer (wasnt in stock)
Coat (any black or navy one)
Sports bag
White trainers
School shoes
Gun shield
School bag
Pencil case, pens, etc

Already had:
hockey stick
tennis racket
shin pads, etc#

Arisbottle · 13/07/2013 10:51

One dd going up to state comp/secondary modern

Blazer £30
Blouse £17 each bought 3 so £51
Skirt £15 bought 3 so £45
Tie £5 bought 2 as she is quite scatty so £10
PE shorts £7
PE top £10 bought 2 so £20
PE fleece £15
PE socks £5 bought 2 £10
Skorts £15
Rugby shirt £19
Trainers £30
Football trainers £30
School shoes about £30

So just over £300, she still has to get school bag, stationary and equipment.

Arisbottle · 13/07/2013 10:52

But we have five children to pay for, so it is an expensive time of year. Although dss is off to uni so expense of a different kind.

Arisbottle · 13/07/2013 10:54

I am considering buying a second blazer as ours are a bit cheaper. Am a little concerned about her wearing the same one every day and am not sure how easy they are to clean and dry.

Picturesinthefirelight · 13/07/2013 11:35

Everything of dds is machine washable as the boarders have it all put through the school laundry.

Hulababy · 13/07/2013 11:38

Only get one blazer too. Not sure if washable, all I know is its made of recycled bottles!

Arisbottle · 13/07/2013 11:41

I will see how she does with one. I just can't imagine wearing the same suit jacket every day.

Needtostopbuyingcrap · 13/07/2013 11:41

So far about £200 and i haven't finished yet.
We could only buy the uniform from the school. The skirt with the school badge cost £25 alone.

I could cry at the amount of money i will need to spend.

lljkk · 13/07/2013 12:57

Blazers are usually synthetic materials so dry very quickly, we are getting by fine with just one for 13yo DS. Don't forget they outgrow them, too. I spent:

£34, Blazer &
£26, 2x jumpers*
£22.40, 4 x white shirts &
£17, PE skorts in approved style &
£16.49, Gray skirt right length &
£11, 2x tie &
£8.20, PE blue jumper &
£6, school approved calculator
£5.50, one white polo ?&
£5 PE blue shorts
£5, hockey socks
£4, gumshield (DD is sporty)
£4, gym bag
£2.75, swim hat

  • I know I could buy cheaper, but so nice they are 100% cotton & I probably could have bought much cheaper, esp. 2nd hand, I'll know when she outgrows them!

DD has just finished Year 7 at a state secondary. Can't remember prices but this is what she has used this year.

General uniform
1 skirt
1 pair of trousers (however, she grew so much this year I have had to replace them twice)
pack of white ankle socks
boxes of skin tone tights for warmer days
thicker tights for colder days
1 pair of school shoes
5 blouses
3 summer term polo shirts
1 blazer

PE kit
school logo polo shirt
black shorts
black trackie bottoms
school logo hoody
trainers
black football socks
white sports socks

Not too bad, however, she is on her fifth bag.... and that one now needs replacing too.

cece · 13/07/2013 13:13

sorry forgot the school logo cardigan

Ds is going up to secondary.......

So far........

A blazer for £25
House tie £4

Not had a list for equipment yet....just uniform!

derektheladyhamster · 13/07/2013 13:26

Ds is going into yr 9, and I'm having to do it all again due the the blighter growing (and he hasn't started his growth spurt yet!)

QuintessentialOldDear · 13/07/2013 13:28

Ha £108 got me trousers and a blazer.

I have spent around £500 so far, but think he has what he needs to start with, except shoes. We need to get them in September, his current ones will be regarded "too scruffy".

Arisbottle · 13/07/2013 13:30

That must be private though quintessential so par for the course.

Tiggles · 13/07/2013 22:52

I've ordered
2 school jumpers
2 school PE shirts
2 pairs sports socks
2 school ties (I know DS will lose one so will need a hidden spare!)
That came to £50
Then already bought 5 shirts £15
5 pairs black socks £6
2 pairs trousers (Got holes in current ones [sigh]) £8
football boots £15
2 sport shorts £4
So thats just short of £100
I guess I didn't need to buy 2 sets of sports equipment (which would have saved about £12) but they do PE twice a week so I'm guessing especially in the winter term doing rugby and footy it's going to get muddy and may not be much time to wash it inbetween.
Also bought German and Welsh dictionaries £15ish
