So what have you spent on secondary transfer uniform so far?

About £195 for us with another £100 to go, I reckon.
Been told I should have managed it all for about £50.
Anyone else want to share numbers?
I'm going to itemise it later, still have receipts, could take some back, in theory.

Did it last year spent about £400. Shoes are the biggest problem every time they go up a size you need to buy everyday shoes , school shoes, cricket shoes, football boots, athletics trainers, indoor trainers, not cheap.

I don't do it until after the August bank hol but anticipate about £100 to £150, no more (including Clarks shoes). State, obviously, but top state and beats most of the indies, so uniform costs clearly aren't all.

She'll be wearing dd1's hand me down trousers, but they were 2 for £10 in M&S sale

We have shorts and joggers (for PE) already in the wardrobe
She'll carry on using the bag she had in Yr6 until it wears out or, if she specifically wants a different sort it will be a birthday or Christmas present.
She already has shoes, and football boots, and things like pencil cases

So, pretending we were buying the trousers for her (rather than buying the next size for dd1 last year) it would come in just under £60.

100% cotton preferred, but 'easy iron' finish would be ideal. It needs to take a tie, so no open necks.

and DD says no to elbow length sleeves, but so far they all have these (unless wrist length) so I think she will have to lump it.

All of the above is compulsory apart from the base layer, and they play rugby outside throughout the winter in a thin short-sleeved rugby shirt, so it's not really that optional unless your child is a lot more hardy than mine.

Because the school outfitters is 40 miles away. Also lots of friends told me that last year unless they ordered before the schools broke up they didn't get the stuff in time.

Oddly enough when - parents take that into consideration, and all Yr7s I know have a good 2 years growing room in their first uniforms ~ surely it's the law that all Yr7s start at their new schools with sleeves down over their hands, etc ?

The 2 Uniform shops anywhere near accessible from here are manic once you get into the 2nd half of August, it really makes a lot of sense to get the stuff on the evening they come into school, and you are only sharing them with the other 150ish new starters, not the thousands and thousands across the city.

School hymn book is on the list. Who knows why. But it was about £5 so least of the costs so not an issue. It's not state so can do what it likes I guess.

Mine don't,, they specialise in not growing I think. DC don't do growth spurts. Actually, I tell a small fib. The teenager is going thru a "Must Eat Food Franticness" at the moment; I think that might be a growth spurt, so am holding off on buying his next pair of shoes until as late as possible.

That would still be merely £20 if blazer bought new for us. And only if school sells badge separately (ours doesn't, school in a posh town I fear); also the way it looks is different from the embroidered ones. So the kids KNOW by how it looks, you know how teenagers hate to be different. Fine if most the parents have that option & are doing it so not an issue among the kids themselves.

My top advice to anyone in future will be to ask around about 2nd hand suppliers, though, I could have saved £40-£70 if I had know about them.

Yes I guess my son may grow in the next 6 weeks, but as he is only just 11, the age 11-12 school stuff (smallest size) comes over his hands as it is, the likelihood of him needing age 13-14 by September is definitely nil.
We are also away for 3 of the next 6 weeks so really needs sorting out.

Remainder spent in school shop on items with school logo, but PE kit was changed for new school year, so have bought in two sizes in the belief that I will save money as price likely to go up not down in future years.

Still need to buy school shoes, trainers and football boots, pencil case contents and a sketch book for art.

Mine have an annoying tendency to have huge growth spurts in the first half of the Autumn term, which is why I've only bought one of each thing this time (apart from shirts). At least there's a younger brother it can be passed on to.

The other time they have a massive growth spurt is June, which is equally annoying.
