Hi
Due to a change in circumstances, might have to move to a different town but ds is in a lovely school and want to keep him there. Is a 16 mile/40 min school run a ridiculous idea?

Plus, your son's friends won't want to do that trip to come and play after school so you might find he ends up quite lonely. I think that all in all a change to a local school where he can find local friends would be better.

This may seem OK next term but fast forward to September when the nights are dark and it may seem hideous. A fresh start and a clean break may be better, especially as he's in Y3 and it isn't a case of finishing the last year. Also secondary transfer may be easier later on not only because he will already have local friends but also because you will be plugged in to what other parents say if you transfer to a local primary. Also gives you a chance to do a bit of research into where the best secondaries are. Often very good primaries lose children Y2/3/4 to the independents so there are places at good schools that are often harder to get into earlier on.
