How are all the newbies getting on in reception then?

My dd2 is full time and is shattered when she comes out. Im hearing the bad bits like 4 girls calling her fat and a boy threw a stickle brick at her face and im hoping theres some enjoyment going on there too. Hows its going with your LOs

For most of this week dd has at last gone in happily with no tears beforehand and she seems less tired 2 weeks in. Had to collect her a bit early yesterday to take ds to a dr appointment and she was happily playing cars with one of the boys. She says she has two particular friends - both boys ! - and has made friends at playtime with the male Reception teacher who warms her hands up and chats to her. Hmm sign of things to come ?

Sounds a bit rough in yours Charliecat

Oi, I thought you were cleaning! My dd is getting on fine except they forgot to put her on the busbut that is a whole thread in itself . oh well back to my swifter!

MY Ds FT from day 1 has settled in well (had to take favourite teddie for first 3 days has been fine since) made 2 friends that he knows the names of and point out others from his class that he recognises. Is still tired when he comes in and hungry but is againg sleeping really well thank goodness

DS2 started this week, and I'm illogically pleased that even though he is the youngest (August 31st) he isn't actually the smallest. DS1 has always been the smallest too....Is full of beans, thinks he is a big boy and runs all the way to and from school. The line had already gone in when we got there this morning and he rushed in with nary a backward glance, never mind a kiss. Wipes tear from eye.....

my ds is doing fine this week he has been stopping to his dinner then coming home at 1.15pm. next week he will be full time for good. on a morning he has started to cry & hold on to me the teacher has to take him away from me, she says 2 minutes after i have gone he is fine.i,m missing him, i feel like a part of me has been taken away .

charliecat - have you had a word with the teacher about the name calling? 4 of them doing it sounds a bit grim, maybe the teacher needs to have a word.

Ds1 has been on half days this week, full time from next week, seems fine so far.

Ive done the dishes Lucy The teacher has said to the kids not to do it as dd2 has told the teacher straight away.
Will ask her as she comes out tonight if anythings happened today.

mine loves it, gets cross on Wed which is a half day. but is an old child (5 in Oct) and was in the nursery there so knows all the children and teachers very well (mind you he only has 7 in his class!!). is VERY into Floppy and Kipper (Oxford Learning Tree anyone? sigh) and really enjoying trying to read...

My dd's only done half days so far and has absolutely loved it. She's made lots of friends and is enjoying playing and learning new things. However, she's spent a fair amount of this morning in tears because she starts full-time on Monday and doesn't want to spend all day away from me.

pph, ours are mainly doing Jolly Phonics ("huh" yesterday!) atm but have coloured Biff, Chip et al and are being read some of the stories. ds missed out a lot of the early levels of ORT so hopefully it won't be too repetitive, at least to begin with.

actually I think oxford learning tree is very good, lots of humour in it and they seem to really enjoy it. It is just my second round of biff chip kipper etc, so all a bit wearisome. god knows what I'll think of it all when number 3 and number 4 start coming home with floppy as well!! Aurgh. May have to change schools just for some variety in reading schemes!

Well, DS1 seems to be liking it despite some histrionic partings and has made a friend called "tom-man" (er maybe). No evidence at all of him being taught anything like reading but will worry about that at half term, methinks.

My DTs have settled in well. They are still only doing afternoons till half term. They have been bringing home reading books and my DD2 spent 30mins after school writing a curly Y her teacher had shown her.She was very exited about the fact she had taken the register to the office with the teacher.

DS just doing mornings until half term. Wobbly bottom lip and teary eyes when the bell goes (him and me!!), but apparently once inside he is very happy and smiley. Enjoying his reading books but I'm wondering how often his teacher can use the word 'super' . She uses it for everything!

She's loving it and is ridiculously pleased that there are no boys in her class. She's also very pleased to be in aftercare so all's well.

Hi. dd settling in fine. Altho the school uses 3 different reading systems so a bit confusing for me, (jolly phonics , oxford reading tree and another one I forget but that is set in a village and Rosie and Sam live next door to each other

yes, we have Rosie and Sam, they're part of the Ginn series. We also endured Ben, Liz and Digger in nursery. DD's school seems to have combined every published scheme (one, two, three and away, ORT, jolly phonics etc.) to create its own system so there is a little variety.

DD sat tonight doing her homework drawing things to go with the sounds shes been learning in HER OWN HOMEWORK BOOK...shes sooooooo impressed. Her big sister was itching to get her hands on it to cut her down a peg or two

So proud of DS2 today who did PE and came home with all his clothes on the right way! He thinks he's such a big boy now. He's told me that if the class gets 10 class stars they all get a treat "but not a food treat, Mummy".

DS has settled in fine, but as he was in the nursery it wasn't such a shock. On the 2 days a week he does games he has to go to school wearing games kit (which includes a tracksuit) as the teachers have decided it takes too long to get everyone changed. I've already been back to the uniform shop to get some spare tops and gym shorts. At the moment he is concentrating on learning his letters phonetically & writing them in cursive script and we have to practise them at home. He is the youngest in class so other children are more advanced than him, but he doesn't appear conscious of it. So far there have been 3 birthday parties and another one next week!

Oh, there has also been a coffee morning for grown-ups with children in his class (well, mums & nannies) and a mums night out is planned for 2 weeks time.

DS seems to be settling in well. They are doing a sound a week using Jolly Phonics (but not in the prescribed order) - this week they are doing "g". I just wish he would tell me more of what was going on. I get odd snippets thats all. Yesterday was a good day. I deduced that he had had rice for lunch because of the grain on his polo shirt but don't know what with - he claims potatoes. Also he made a too big hole for his milk, I was in trouble for fogetting his dinner money , they did "g", and his friend James fell off a bench outside, banged his head and had to go to hospital.
