lol singersgirl. I can tell when dd has had dancing as her socks are inside out. Curiously she is dressed properly after swimming.

Azure, ours wear a tracksuit and polo shirt on swimming day but they don't change for PE until the summer term. Tryign to avoid buying the offical coat but can we wait 2 weeks until the next 2nd hand sale ?

Parents' evening tonight, coffee morning on Wednesday next week and night out on Friday, but we're not going to that - no babysitter yet.

It was ds second morning today and he came home and told me he played on his own at play time. I was very sad for him but my mum pointed out its only day 2 so Im just hoping for a playmate tomorrow. He seems to mix with kids in the safety of the class. My hubby thinks that just because he said he spent playtime alone doesnt make it true.

Figleaf
I bet your DH is right. My ds school send home an information sheet regarding the "first weeks of school" and one of things it said was not to be upset if your child says that no one played with them at playtime, or that they were on their own. The teacher said that this is usually not the case, but that they are either remembering the few minutes that they were on their own, or that it is easier to give that response if they don't want to tell you the ins & outs of who they played with.

How reassuring saxy and what a good idea for your school to give out notes like that.

Saxy · 27/09/2005 16:10

It was really handy to have. It also said not to question them about their day which I find soooo hard not to do!

figleaf · 27/09/2005 16:18

Me too! Id be like the spanish inquisition if I didnt stop myself.

We had a lovelly day today. Played with others and made a shiney/gluey thing to bring home.

His class were organised into colour groups but he isnt with his 2 friends that he knew before starting school but this doesnt seem to bother him.

Well, pride comes before a fall! DS2 had shoes on the wrong feet today after taking them off to play in the sandpit.
Still, love him to bits as he is so pleased with himself all the time!
We got a curriculum letter home today which says they start teaching sounds in week 4...so another 2 weeks to go.

PeachyClair · 28/09/2005 14:22

DS2 loves it mostly, tho he has picked up that his teacher doesn't like him. DH took DS2 to a birthday party at the weekend and noticed he seems to have become a target for the other kids too, suspect DS2 has put himself in this role as DS1 bullies him. The school let DS1 play with the reception kids at lunchtime, I may have to raise this as an issue, bvut haven't been given an oppurtunity yet.

He loves the work tho and is excited by the books, and doing much better than I hoped.

But then, he's a little precious mite! Very loving.

Some of you may know about all the problems that my poor ds went through last year when he first started school and that resulted in me removing him in Jan .

Well he is doing really well this time round. His new school are brilliant and because he now has a Statement with funding the school are able to give him full time 1:1 support.

He is so happy and doing so well that it gets me all choked up when i think of last year and how awful it was. I was worried that his bad experiences would affect how he thought about school for a long time but luckily he doesn't seem to make any connection between what happened then and his lovely new school now.

And in case you're wondering why I am posting on a thread about newbies in reception the LEA agreed to my request to back-year DS as he had had so little time in the classroom at his old school. He started school again from the beginning in reception this sept

Glad things have worked out well Amynnixmum. We had a parents evening at school last night and amazingly there are two other children in DS's class of 22 who have birthdays on the same day - August 27th. The teacher was very reassuring about late birthdays.

figleaf · 03/10/2005 16:39

He hated the school food. I`ll make him stay this week as they are collected just after lunch but unless it gets better, I hear a lunch box calling me next week.
