Rules...... Being broken.

Lilsis1975 · 15/09/2005 13:52

I was just reading the thread about parents sneaking pop/juice into water bottles and this got me thinking about how many other rules are broken.

For example :
in a school where uniform is compulsory skirt, no headwear etc why are muslim girls allowed to wear trousers and head scarves, instead of shorts for P.E. tracksuits.

Why do our kids have to suffer having their "traditional" foods changed to suit the needs of muslims?

Sorry this gets my goat and I am married to a muslim man..... I have this discussion all the time with him.... he is beginning to see my point now.

at one of the secondary schools round here the pupils just voted to have uniform after having none for about 15 years!

JoolsToo · 15/09/2005 14:23

I predict this thread will run and run - like The Mousetrap

I wonder what happened to all the "traditional" foods at my kids school - pizza, chilli, spag bol ...

Lilsis1975 · 15/09/2005 14:32

OK i will rephrase the whole thing...
It annoys me when there is a uniform in place and parents do not make their children wear it. instead of grey trousers they send them in black, instead of black shoes they turn up in trainers. instead of coats in the winter they come in in fleeces (against our school rules). When the only headwear allowed is the school hat (wool in winter baseball cap in summer) they send kids in in all different kinds of hats.
I just hate the fact that so many parents dont stick to the rules. I do disagree with some religions being allowed to wear a variation of the uniform especially when they are in a christian school.

well how many muslim schools are there in your area?

the kids have the right to be taught. they also have a right to be able to practice their religion. it isn;'t their fault that the only schools are christian ones.

and as christians genreally practice tolerance and love to everybody i fail to see how religion is the problem

zippitippitoes · 15/09/2005 14:37

at dd school the uniform was grey trousers but black ones were worn by 99% of students

I just couldn't get why they didn't change the uniform to black as they couldn't enforceit

Lilsis1975 · 15/09/2005 14:38

It becomes a problem when they take their children out of school because there is a church service etc. My DH has on many occassion been into a church and has simply prayed in his own language/religion rather than ours. if you send a child to a church school then they should take part not be taken out of school. If you insist they are not to take part they should remain behind at school and continue with work not go home and play etc.

I thought school uniform wasn't compulsory anyway?

Lilsis1975 · 15/09/2005 18:29

Steffee, suppose it depends on the school. In some nurseries it isn't compulsory.

Surely it's reasonable for schools to set school uniforms so that anyone attending the school can wear them? Foe e.g was it pandering to girls when a few decades ago a lot of schools started to admit girls for the first time, and the schools extended school uniform so that girls didn't have to wear short grey trousers??

It sounds as if you feel araid of something Lilsis? Trousers for muslim girls are WITHIN the reasonable rules the school has set. What's wrong with that?

sparlover · 15/09/2005 18:34

lilsis is vaunda btw... and we all know who vaunda is right'?

Lilsis1975 · 15/09/2005 18:40

Sparlover
yes i am Vaunda, and the problem with that is what? if you dont like what i post then don't read it. I am entitled to my opinion as we all are.
Also if you have something to say rather than put snidey comments at least have the balls to come out and say it.

OP posts:
sparlover · 15/09/2005 18:42

did i say i had a problem? no
i fail to see how what i said was snidey.. but whatever

why exactly have you had to change your name though i wonder... hmmmm

Lilsis1975 · 15/09/2005 18:42

Blu,
I am not afraid of anything but surely if there is a rule in place it should be in place for ALL children and not just some. If muslim girls can wear head scarves then non muslims should be allowed to wear headwear if they want to as well.

FFS, it's a religious requirement for them not a s*dding fashion statement!

Get real.

Lilsis1975 · 15/09/2005 18:43

Sparlover
I changed my name because my sister has joined MN and her name is the opposite of mine as she is my big sister. Sorry didn't realise you were the mummy of MN and i had to run it past you first. Oh dear what a shame i didn't what you going to do send me to bed..... oh no you can't.

sparlover · 15/09/2005 18:44

Lilsis1975 · 15/09/2005 18:44

Soup,

OP posts:
sparlover · 15/09/2005 18:46

sparlover · 15/09/2005 18:46

although i readily admit to being childish! i know that already

Nightynight · 15/09/2005 18:47

lilsis
our local schools in the UK have an Asian style option in the school uniform. so does my bank, the Halifax. What on earth is wrong with that, and why should this be considered as breaking the rules?

SoupDragon · 15/09/2005 18:47

Sometimes because it's the only choice perhaps???

Lilsis1975 · 15/09/2005 18:47

Sparlover,
look in the mirror and you will see Vicky Pollard. trust me.
