How many of us have DS or DD going into year 6 and so having secondary transfer this year?

How do you feel about it?

DS goes back to school next Monday into class 6.

He has been at same school since Jan 1999, so sort of 7 years this year.

There is one class per year and they are a very close class, have got 26 children.

How do you feel about them entering into their last year at Junior school?

I feel sad that he is going to be leaving.

Is there anybody else who is going through this especially for the first time?

DS doesn't have any younger siblings so when he leaves primary school that will be the end for the family as well. IYSWIM.

Added to this is the secondary transfer issues.

I am sure when it comes to next summer he will be ready to leave as will probably grown up alot by then.

I was just wondering if others were thinking the same as me or whether it is just me being a silly neurotic mother again

sounds a deffo brill idea

mandylifeboats · 06/01/2006 13:34

Seems to have worked well for us, just hope DS2 wasn't too laid back!

Jennypog · 11/01/2006 13:44

Well my poor dd has 3 tests over the next 3 weeks. She is a little fed up with them now after the 11+ in November, but she seems to take them in her stride. It is me that is the nervous wreck. I don't know how much more I can take. She is my youngest and she feels the pressure as her older sister got into a grammar. It is awful. If she doesn't get in I shall be so upset. She is a very clever little girl and an August birthday, but I know that one false move on the 11+ and she could fail. Please, everyone, make me feel better!

RTKangaMummy · 11/01/2006 13:50

DS had his last one yesterday

I don't know what to say to make you feel better though, I agree that the pressure on us is bad too

It must be hard for her to live up to her sister

I know, it is silly, there is nothing to make me feel better! Only 1st March - or I suppose the 3rd, as I dare say they will use 2nd class post. My little girl is terribly prone to making silly errors and not reading the question properly and it gives me nightmares. My only consolation is that all the other children probably also make silly mistakes - it is just a question of who makes the most! It is nice to know that I am not the only fretting parent out there. I don't think anyone else at her primary school sat the 11+, so I can't even share it at the school gate.

RTKangaMummy · 11/01/2006 17:59

DS doesn't read the question either

and then esp in maths makes silly mistakes

My ds started secondary this year He is 11.I was quite worried as he is an only child and the school was very important to him but tbh he has really enjoyed school from day one and I was worrying for nothing He looked round the school twice with us and they had a trial day before they started and so it wasn't a big shock.Try and find out if the next school has one of these introductory days if they do its a great idea

RTKangaMummy · 11/01/2006 18:04

sounds hopeful

I think they do have a day in the summer and also in sept they go to the school a day earlier than the rest of the school

RT - mine is the same, we have 11+ at end of January, starting with a tutor tomorrow, the stress is getting to me! DS couldn't give a monkey's.

RTKangaMummy · 11/01/2006 18:06

SHR hope it goes well -- DS worries about these tests but still makes silly mistakes

I feel really weird posting on this thread about DS

DS has passed the exams for independant boys school

He did very very well in the ENGLISH paper.

He has his interview next monday at 9.00 which lasts 30 mins and will have some ORAL MATHS questions to answer. Also talk about his interests etc.

I hope you get the choices and results you and your children want.

I hope I will still be able to come on this thread after we have had the result from the interview - cos I kind of feel sort of guilty cos we are one step further along this long and stressful road than you guys

I would still love to come on to support the rest of you

I feel the same about the families at school

It is very weird cos some of the children KNOW where they are going because they have sibling places

And some don't know until results come out in march

I hope you are not upset with me for this post but I always believe in telling the truth and so couldn't go on pretiending we were still waiting on the state school results

RTKM I'm so pleased for you and your ds! Particularly knowing that he and my dd1 started their little lives in the same place around the same time.

dd1 has her final exam tomorrow, for the private school which is our fallback option if the grammar school doesn't work out. We'll hear about the private schools in the last week in Feb, the state schools officially on 1st March. But the grammar school rather sweetly writes to parents in Jan to let them know their child's place in the ranking of exam papers, from which you can work out whether you'll get a place. So hopefully we'll get that letter soon, which will take some of the heat out of the wait.

Icemum · 12/01/2006 13:01

Thats fantastic news!!!! Go Kangaboy!!!

Good luck for the interview next week.

Hope you will stay around to support the rest of us.

RTKangaMummy · 12/01/2006 13:05

Thank you frogs

It is sooooooo strange when I think back to how many times we asked the drs and nurses how much longer he would be in NNU and they said "how long is a piece of string"

Good luck to your DD for tomorrow and hope you get the letter soon - that is a lovely idea from grammar school

We have had some news in the post this morning. Anyone around to share it with?

RTKangaMummy · 21/01/2006 18:31

Hellooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Weeeelllllllllllllllllll...............

The Grammar school that is dd1's first choice promised to put parents out of their misery before March by writing to let you know your child's ranking in the entrance tests, so that you could work out whether your child was likely to get a place.

Dd1's letter arrived this morning, and her ranking out of all the 300+ people who took the exam was...

1st.

So dd1 is ecstatic, and we are all very proud of her for working so hard.

I feel a bit mean posting when most other people won't have heard, but I can't tell anyone in RL since no other children from her primary are applying to Grammar school, and lots of people have been very sniffy about it. So thank you for listening!

RTKangaMummy · 21/01/2006 18:44

WOW, THAT IS TRUELY DEFFO BRILL

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know I was shouting but IMHO she deserves for you to shout it from the computer when you can't tell in RL

hoxtonchick · 21/01/2006 18:47

frogs, that's fantastic . very well done to dd1.

frogs · 21/01/2006 19:21

Awww, thanks guys.

We have been going around all day with stupid smiles on our faces. I've had to put the letter on the fridge so I can remind myself it's true.

RTKM, how was your ds's interview?

tigermoth · 21/01/2006 19:28

wow frogs, that's a brilliant result! well done your dd!!

Hallgerda · 21/01/2006 19:42

Frogs, that's great! Congratulations to your dd1!
