What is going on? How far will we let standards fall?

I realise that it was the Mail but I found this on their last ofsted

Commentary
9. Pupils? poor behaviour and their unsatisfactory attitudes have an adverse effect on
achievement and the overall ethos of the school. There are too many instances of lessons
being disrupted because of the way the pupils behave and treat teachers and support staff.
Rudeness and abusive language are evident, making it very difficult for those who wish to
learn to do so. The school is not an orderly community, and there is an undercurrent of
indiscipline. There is a significant amount of litter dropped after breaks and lunchtimes, and
pupils show little respect for their environment. Too many pupils from all the differing groups,
in relation to gender, ethnicity and capability, do not show that they understand the difference
between right and wrong behaviour.

So I wouldn't be surprised if it were shown to be true

the 'f' word is common place everywhere. Once it was a definite 'no-no' on tv - now, anything goes!

It's become normal vocabulary for some adults so what chance have kids got if they are exposed to it on a daily basis.

It makes me want to cry!

I hope, from the ofsted report, that that is the worst school in england.
I'd hate to think there could be anything WORSE...

I don't think that it is in special measures, so there could well be lots worse

isn't there a proven relationship between controlling the environment and improving behaviour so less litter would be a start...

Yes, we tightened up on uniform and the behaviour in the school I work in improved.

Well yes, it is part of these young adults' everyday language - but they should be learning that there are situations where it is 'acceptable' (ie., amongst their peers) and situations where it is not - ie., in a classroom.

I've been known to say it (very occasionally, of course!) but I know when not to say it and am able to restrict my usage of it to times when it won't cause offence. If these kids never learn to control their use of bad language what hope of they of ever getting a job?

he sounds totally ineffectual, I thought the idea of getting on down with the kids as an educational tool went out a long time ago...

I heard this on Radio 4 a couple of days ago - and they reported that it was only one special class of kids who had behaviour problems anyway.
They are only allowed to use the word 5 times without getting into trouble.
I didn't think they idea was that bad if restricted in that way - and I hate swearing as a general rule!

I think this is perfectly reasonable.

Sorry but i think it is a stupid idea for any class or child unless they have tourettes.

just imagine being in that school, 'but miss, J can say fuck five times a day, why can't I, its not *fair' Whing , whing, argue , argue, strop, stop, Ohh look, thatis the lesson gone and no-one has learned anthing again!

Kids need nice, easy, firm rules, not this sort of half thought out cobblers! I bet the person who came up with this one doesn't teach in a classroom that often

But that means keeping a record for each pupil and all sorts of bizarre bureaucracy (sp)

and obviously they will elect to use their allowance!

Is it each pupil in the class can use the word five times a lesson? Or is it first come, first serve, 5 uses and that's it? Just thinking if it's the former, and they keep a tally on the board - there's not going to be a lot of room (or time) for any learning to go on, is there?

We run a fairly simple system for uniform violations and lateness. All the kids have a card, twelve initials on it gets you and after school detention. Three initials for late to school (without a good reason like bus late etc), one for late to a lesson without a reason, one for a uniform violation. If the kids 'forget' the card when they get to 12, they get and asdt anyway. It all works very well, kids get a new card exch half term. We are thinking of brining in bonuses for 'clean' cards.

But 5 F words a day is facical!

if they don't have five each then it will be a bit of a competition to make sure you get yours in, then...

It would be such a horrific waste of time, and how awful to try to work in that environment. Their ofsed said that children feel intimidated....well this will not help will it???

As I said, I bet this was brought in by someone who hasn't spent much time in a classroom over the last few years.

The more i think about it the more backwards down a telescope it seems...

It makes the students more alienated from acceptable employable behaviour
