I have reusable pads. I have silicone straws. I have reusable pouches for frozen food.

But I don’t think I could bring myself to use reusable toilet paper

It’s not a big deal and you will get used quickly. Ours go in the washing with our DD’s nappies.

Thatsenoughnow · 26/07/2022 08:44

Mooncups. Yuk.

Mooncups. Yuk.

Agreed. Just no.

AColdDuncanGoodhew · 26/07/2022 08:51

I don't think I could do reusable toilet paper either OP

I switched to a mooncup (although different brand) in January. Best thing I've ever done! Less messy than pads and tampons, change it every 12 hours (I have a medium flow and a 30ml cup but I know some people still have to change regularly), no cramping. I'm a total convert.

Soubriquet · 26/07/2022 09:04

I’m sort of interested in a moon cup but I don’t think I would be able to manage with one. I never liked tampons and I have a sensitive cervix

Reusable pouches, straws and soap pumps as there is no way to clean them fully. I'm also dubious of any reusable bottle that can't go in the dishwasher for the same reason.

Wax covers as your you need loads of them in many sizes to hope that you always have the size needed which clutters up the kitchen.

Shops that refill into your containers as you alway have to have run out of said product and the time to refill it on the day that you have run out of it. I mean having 1/3 of a bowl of breakfast cereal left would be a pain as no-one wants so little, so they will never eat it so you cannot get and get it refilled.

clpsmum · 26/07/2022 09:12

I just can't get on with the shampoo and conditioner bars. I've tried so many but they're just not working for me Hmm

Singleandproud · 26/07/2022 09:13

Reusable pads and period pants have been used in our house for years.

Reusable toilet paper I haven't used but I suppose it's fine for urinating and a boil wash.

Paper straws and wooden cutlery I hate, the mouth feel is all wrong so I don't use a straw and carry the interlocking camping cutlery when out and about and eating take out.

itbemay · 26/07/2022 09:14

Reusable straws
Mooncups
Period knickers
Reusable pads

We try to be very eco friendly in this house but those things I can't even contemplate.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 26/07/2022 09:15

Shampoo bars and toothbrushes. I like liquid shampoo without the mess and an electric toothbrush.

You could have a jar at home that stores your cereal and then use another bag to collect from the store to top up at home.

Tried an eco egg for washing clothes and my clothes came out smelling of bleach and wet clothes. Disappointing and went back to liquid because I need my clothes washed properly working a clinical job! Love my moon up, have recommended to a few of my friends and they are also converted!

Chocolatefreak · 26/07/2022 09:17

@Iamclearlyamug actually mooncups are way less yuck than tampons or pads. No smell, no chafing, no string. You just need to be able to wash your hands beforehand as well as afterwards. In a public loo you can't wash it , so just need to empty and reinsert which can sometimes be a bit awkward. But I am a full convert. Must have saved kilos of product and no need to remember to take things with you, only this one small thing.

Gwenhwyfar · 26/07/2022 09:19

I won't give up my tampons. I also don't want plastic applicators to disapper (I couldn't use them at all until I found plastic) and would be willing to have a re-usable, washable applicator.
Mooncups aren't yuck, but I just couldn't cope with it.

No to reusable toilet paper. I also use kitchen paper that I then throw away to clean the bathroom. I'm not convinced reusable ones are more eco in the end with the amount of washing they generate.

Main eco thing I won't do is switch off the heating when I'm cold.

I agree that shampoo bars don't work, but they may get better in future. I've tried them for flying.

I agree about wooden cutlery too. Totally spoils the taste.

Yes, they particularly appealed to me when I didn't have an outside space to put my bin.

This!

I hesitated for years before trying one, but it makes periods so much less hassle than they ever were before - less mess and less cramping. Would recommend trying it to anyone interested.

Veganism. 🤮 Lots of ultra processed food mascarading as healthy. No thanks!

You do realise that highly processed food isn't a requirement of being veganism... don't you?

SBAM · 26/07/2022 09:28

I use a moon cup and period knickers, but could not use reusable pads. No idea why, they just give me the ick.
Id have been up for using reusable nappies with the DC but my husband was dead against it.
I couldn’t use a bamboo toothbrush, my teeth don’t feel clean unless I use my electric one.
Wax wraps seem a lot of fuss, I just use plastic boxes for leftovers.

Rosewaterblossom · 26/07/2022 09:29

I tried a mooncup last period and found the smell really unpleasant when I removed it. I wash everyday etc so assumed its where the plastic cup is sitting "up" there for hours at a time. The plastic absorbs the "period" smell. 🤢

Hawkseye · 26/07/2022 09:34

Paper straws boil my piss.

I do think it's funny that all of this stuff is marketed as reusable this, reusable that. When in actual fact about 90% of it is actually a flannel or a cloth.

Reusable toilet roll and face wipes are a cloth. Just call it a god damn cloth and stop charging people a fiver for something they can buy in B&M for a quid.

yonce · 26/07/2022 09:34

I couldn't use any reusable period things, that makes me feel queasy. Just not practical for my circumstances anyway, and icky imo!

Reusable toilet paper is the same, can't get on board with it!

Perfect28 · 26/07/2022 09:36

All the mooncup wary, what's the objection?

ButtonSister · 26/07/2022 09:37

I tried wax wraps for a while. After a few uses they never felt very clean. I ended up using them as firelighters.
Re-usable or paper straws - unless there's a physical need, why bother at all?

Perfect28 · 26/07/2022 09:38

Rosewater blossom they are made from medical grade silicone and shouldn't absorb any smell. The blood and discharge itself smells a little once its been hanging about a while but that's exactly the same as a pad or tampon.
