Ok. Why is ebay fundamentally different on my new laptop? The time remaining is not static...it is continuously counting in real time

So normally when you view an item it shows the time remaining and then you have to refresh to change the clock.

On my new (shiney ) laptop it is continuously counting down as though the page is constantly refreshing. Whats new? I like it.

Also the description panel is as a tabbed layout with the postage and stuff on a seperate tab whuch I think will take a little more getting used to...

How can it be different on 2 computors. I am using IE on both (though may be different versions).

Its not hun. lol. Its because the item you are looking at is set like this. Some are some arnt. You may have a laptop with a higher celeron processor than the last. Run time may be quicker, but its ebay not your laptop.

SlightlyMadScotland · 19/03/2009 22:39

I can look at the same item on the laptop and the
desktop and they both look different.

All of the items I llook at on the laptop have the "live counting" and I quite like it. I want my desktop to do it.

I realise that it is ebay....but what is making ebay different ont he 2 PCs?

Have you got Windows Vista on Laptop?
Have you got Windows XP on desktop?

SlightlyMadScotland · 19/03/2009 22:44

Maybe you need IE7 to see it so Ebay settings revert to old style if you are using an older browser?

Can you give us an item number or two, I would be interested to see how we see them!

Chellesgirl · 19/03/2009 22:46

Well hunny... i dont know but when you find out lol let me know. Refreshing the page can be tedious. Especially when you have 57 secs to bid and your comp crashes and you lose out!

SlightlyMadScotland · 19/03/2009 22:48

OK this one isn't doing it

this one is

I am assuming that there is a applet or something giving a countdown on time based on when the page was last refreshed. I can't imagine the whole page is being refreshed every second....so I suspect that you will still need to refresh to see new bids.

I am on IE7 on laptop. I think I am on IE7 on PC too (that has tabbed browsing - so I am sure it is IE7)

OP posts:
KingCanuteIAm · 19/03/2009 22:52

Hmm, well they are both looking exactly the same to me using IE7 so I guess that blows that theory!

Having said that, I can't see any seconds to count down anyway - one of them is in hours, have you been watching them that long or am I missing something?

Chellesgirl · 19/03/2009 22:53

Ok those links dont work on my laptop. That means I def dont have IE7.

SlightlyMadScotland · 19/03/2009 22:54

Nooo.,,

They have 14h 19min and 09secs

OP posts:
Chellesgirl · 19/03/2009 22:54

Oh maybe thats cus im on AOL! oops. Well ill stay out this one just gonna make myself look stupid!

SlightlyMadScotland · 19/03/2009 22:55

Do you mean the llinks don't work or the counters don't work?

OP posts:
KingCanuteIAm · 19/03/2009 22:55

IE7 has tabbed browsing so yes SMS it sounds ike you do have it on both...

On is set to show end time and one to show time to go so I woul suspect that is why one is not counting down IYSWIM. I am not sure why you get a countdown and I don't though

SlightlyMadScotland · 19/03/2009 22:55

But AOL uses IE doesn't it. AOL9 is essentially IE7

KingCanuteIAm · 19/03/2009 22:56

They have 14hrs and 1 day 11hrs

MmeLindt · 19/03/2009 22:56

I dont have a countdown either and I am on IE8

SlightlyMadScotland · 19/03/2009 22:58

Ok all items that I look at with less than 24hrs to go are counting in real time.

Anything over 1 day is static...so that is the difference in my 2 examples.

OP posts:
KingCanuteIAm · 19/03/2009 23:00

Ahh, so that is that bit sorted!

I have just dotted around looking at all sorts of things finsihing in under 5 minutes and have not found a single countdown!

SlightlyMadScotland · 19/03/2009 23:01

All under 24hrs are counting down on my laptop.

WHYYYYYY is my laptop clever?

OP posts:
KingCanuteIAm · 19/03/2009 23:03

I don't know but my laptop is new too and I am a little

MmeLindt · 19/03/2009 23:04

My laptop is new as well and does not count down.

What kind of laptop do you have?

KingCanuteIAm · 19/03/2009 23:07

I can't see that it can be the laptop, that just doesn't make sense... mind you it is technology so I suppose anything could be right

SlightlyMadScotland · 19/03/2009 23:07

My laptop is 2 days old.

Tis a Dell Vostro.
