Item described as 'Excellent Condition - Like New'......it's not!

Bought an item from Ebay for local collection & it was described as Excellent Condition - Like New.

Well my husband collected it last night & brought it home just now (he was on nights).

So far I have found 1 bit missing, stains, grime, fag ash in it, scratches, visible wear & a strong odour

I've contacted the seller stating how it was described in the listing & in what condition it actually is & have stated that I really can't leave positive feedback. I didn't threaten to neg her or anything like that as that's unfair.

I didn't pay heaps for it but that's not really the point.

Would you clean the thing up, forget about it & put it down to experience or push for some kind of resoloution?

Why didn't your husband check it before paying for it?

It depends what it was. Technically your husband should have taken the opportunity to inspect it and refused to have over the cash but this is not always possible, he might not have know it was described as perfect, it might have been dark etc.

I bought a buggy once described as immaculate - it also had various problems, bits missing, was very used - and they delivered it to me. However I felt rude putting it up there and thern to inspect it, so I waited till he had gone - had a look, panicked, rang them and he came to get it. He wasn't chuffed but he didnt't want a neg.

Another time I bought one that was posted to me, reeked of fags, I couldn't even have it in the house it was that bad - covered in cr*p basically and falling to bits.

It would have cost a bit to send back and the sellers were nasty, really evil, so I put in a claim thru paypal. They7 said I wouldn't win but I did, ha ha

Then straight away they offered me a massive partial refund, I accepted, held my breath while I washed and fixed it, then sold it on ebay forslightly more than I paid

Each case is different...good luck! And remember you can't be negged as a buyer.
What is their feedback like? Do they stand to lose much rating? ie if it is only a score of 7 positive they'd lose much more % than if they have 300 etc.

if they refuse to refund you, just put in a dispute.

Can I ask what it is, if it's useable, what it would cost you to get it back to them - do you want to keep it and clean it up, or was it too dear to accpet that kind of condition?

It was all rather odd - the seller phoned while I was out yesterday & said as she was away DH could collect from her friends house & gave him the address.

It was dark when DH collected it & they thrust it at him & so he took it. He gave it a quick look as I'd told him how it was described & he admitted it wasn't Like New condition but a) he was on his way to work so couldn't really stop, b) it hadn't collected it from the seller & c) he was of the opnion that as I hadn't much for it it wasn't worth arguing.

The seller as abour 200+ all positive feedback too.

I agree i'd be more upset at the lies than the actual thing. iyswim. People can't get away with that.

Ah. Well fair enough then. This is the marvel of paypal! They've no proof it was even sent to you, you can definitely claim not as described and you're very likely to win - or in theory you could even claim not received! But no need - remember that for next time though.

bit strange anyway - maybe the person you collected it from swapped it for their old one?!

Were there photos on the listing?

This happened to me, and I asked for a refund, and said I would return the item. I did not hear anything about it, and as such I opened a dispute, got an immediate refund and told to bin the item.

Mine was not much either, about £5 BUT, it was £5 that I spent on an item that was not fit for purpose, it was awful and had would not have purchased it if it was correctly described.

I think that IS fair.

FA there were photos but taken very cleverly so from the photos it did look like new.

Pav good to know you had a posituve result from PP!!

I'll wait & see if the seller responds & if nothing maybe I'll open a dispute.

I'll give her til Wednesday as she said she's away til Tues

I've stripped what I can & shoved it in the machine - the weathers nice enough so I go in the garden in a bit & just scrub the rest!!

It reallt smells bad

Honestly not sure what I'dll do re feedback - I'm a little nervous as the seller has my address & phone number & the area DH collected it from is erm.....what's the word.......can't think of the word!!

Anyway I always get visions of the seller turning up on my door with a crow bar or something!!

i gave neg feedback, as i tried to resolve it amicably, but as i could not, i put honest neg. that is the purpose of it, so others know what previous experience has been. Of course it is not a tool for venting annoyance, but it is there to be truthful otherwise what is the point?

I said 'item not as described, refund obtained via paypal dispute centre'

No, paypal were able to get the seller to refund themselves, and we asked them directly whether they wanted item returned, they said chuck it in the bin. When they refunded as requested by paypal, it was just before paypal would have refunded, but once I got the money back in my account, I closed the dispute.

I think you are doing it the right way. Give them a chance to respond, if not go through paypal. If they don't respond to paypal they will refund after 10 days? Not sure of exact timings, but they will tell you at the time.

See that's what I was wondering - half of it is currently in the machine & the other half I'm about to scrub so if PP wanted it returned I'd be loathe to go to all the trouble to return it after I've scrubbed it all etc IYKWIM?

Anyway - I shall see what the seller says, but won't hold me breath!!

I am pretty sure you wont have to return it. flight in her post above seemed to suggest she got a large partial refund and did not have to return the item...

I've just taken it outside in the daylight & it's even more disgusting - it's really grimy & dirty - I honestly don't know where to start in the cleaning process!

What is it? WHy not contat the seller and say you are not happy and ask for a partial refund before doing anything else?

ok. First of all, suggest to the seller that you don't want any hard feelings but would she be willing to offer a partial refund, as you would only have paid such and such for something in this poor condition.

See what she says.

If she offers something back that you feel is fair, get her to refund that amount thru paypal. If she is stubborn or doesn't get round to it, put in a dispute. Say you will accept a partial refund of x amount, or alternatively you will return the entire thing (at your expense - paypal always asks you to pay for return, bear that in midn enxt time!)

Seller might just go with part refund. If you want the whole amount back you do need to return it - you can't usually have it both ways!

I guess she will do this option as she prob doesn't want the blardy thing back, (whatever mysterious item it is lol!)

TBH had I of known condition it was in I wouldn't have bid.

Thw winning bid was only small so I really didn't spend much but it' the principal of the thing - it reall is in yukky condition. I've taken off the loose covers & bunged them in the machine but the rest is prooving hard to scrub clean. I've just sat scrubbing it for ages & it's not getting any cleaner.

Well that's not true the fag ash & caked in food has come off

To some people it might seem good condition, used condition but to me it's horrid (I'm a pramahlic). The stopper for the brake pedal is missing completely.

I'm frightened to open the raincover for fear of what may be wrapped inside!!

I'm not keeping it & tbh wouldn't feel right trying to sell it on as I can't get it clean.

I've said MIL can have it as a spare for when SIL comes down with her brood (I don't like my SIL lol).

So I'm wonderinf whether it's even worth the agro of opening a PP dispute if the seller doesn't get in touch.

Yes, I would. Be super nice in case she does have a heavy husband, but you need to get your dosh back as you'll be fed up about it otherwise - well, I know I would.

Is your husband scary enough to do it for you?

She'll be grateful someone's tried to clean it at least! Mine was like this - vile and nasty. I could hardly bear to unwrap it really after the first inch or two!

I think I'd leave measured neutral feedback and move on. These things can be very stressful if drawn out.
