Seller not communicating

seller had an item I wanted, auction ended Wednesday

ahead of it finishing I messaged seller asking if collection would be ok- because I noticed they were in my postcode area. This would mean I could avoid the postage fee. I didn’t hear back, but fair enough this was only a few hours before the auction ended so I bid anyway and won.

I am fine to pay for postage, I just thought it would be easier to collect and probably less hassle for the buyer. I have done this before from a sellers point of view several times, and sent them an invoice with readjusted price which they’ve then paid in the normal way, no hassle organising postage, happy days. Never requested this as a buyer though.

angway I have heard nothing despite four days passing and two friendly follow up messages sent. I just don’t understand why he has ignored my messages but also seems to have ignore the fact that I haven’t paid.

to be honest I don’t really want to pay him at all if he can’t communicate with an honest question- a “sorry no” would be perfectly fine.

either way I need the item by the 26th -
there are quite a few others available

seller has 100% feedback but not that much- about 20.

what do I do next? Pay up and hope he sends it?

Just pay and have it sent to you. You cannot renege on your promise to pay. There could be all manner of reasons why he has not replied to you.

I wouldn’t trust the seller if he cannot even be bothered to reply. Raise a case with eBay and buy off someone else.

I understand where you're coming from but in reality you've no idea what's going on in his life. Maybe he's had an accident, maybe he's ill. I think I'd just pay and let him send it and if he doesn't you'll be refunded anyway.

I don't think you can raise a case if you haven't paid. I think you have to pay the postage and hope he sends, then leave negative feedback for communication.

You've repeatedly asked for something that isn't included in the listing, so you have no right to keep messaging him asking to collect, or to leave negative feedback.

They still have 3 days to dispatch if thats what they said. I never understand people who leave negative feedback if its dispatched within that time frame

i sell/give away a lot of stuff on fb and have people turn up all the time.
I wfh which helps.
I find it easier than faffing with packing up and posting but appreciate not everyone thinks that.

when can I cancel/apply for a refund?

I can’t see anything on the original listing
about dispatch timescales.

looked at his feedback, is not plentiful but all good. How very strange.

He might think you're a scammer because I think if you collect when the listing was for delivery, then he wouldn't be covered by EBay/PayPal etc if anything goes wrong.
So maybe he's wary of dealing with you.

Just be patient. Don't cancel or ask for a refund yet, ebay will step in when he fails to mark the item as dispatched.

Personally I do not feel that is appropriate here. IF the seller had agreed to cash on collection then yes, negative for communication would be appropriate.

The seller never agreed to cash on collection. OP will need to pay for the item and wait for it in the post like any other purchase.

Maybe they have not been monitoring their messages and are only checking to see if the payment has been made.

I sell and buy a few things. There is no need for any communication as long as they post it out. Ideally he should reply, but not really essential.

Update I paid on Sunday and I still have no dispatch confirmation.

Pretty pissed off tbh because I'm now going to have to order another one as needed for my son's birthday next week.

At what point does ebay intervene? There is no promise to despatch within 3 business days or anything which I am pretty sure i have in the past promised to do when selling. There is however estimated delivery Estimated between Mon, 22 May and Thu, 25 May. I can see no way to cancel at the moment. Will that change at any point? Google suggests in theory they have 30 days to send.

when will this kick in? Its been 4 days since I paid. I can't be patient as I need it by next thursday at the latest.

If you go to message him and click on I haven’t received my item I think it tells you how long before EBay will step in (might be a week or so). I feel for you, I’m having issues with a seller myself.

thank yuo for this I just did and I get the below. Which isn't very helpful. I have messaged very politely and said please either dispatch today or cancel the order.
