Fees

Am I correct in thinking that eBay fees are now approx. 14% of selling price & postage?

It seems very high.

I'm considering Vinted but when I tried to sell on there before, things always seemed to sell easier/faster on eBay.

Also not keen on the buyer having to mark as delivered before you get any payment. So some of them not just delay/not bother/lie etc.?

They do take quite a high percentage now, just sold a few things totalling £70 or so and only kept about £55. I'm much more careful now about what I sell on there and no longer start items at 99p as it's not worth it if that's all they go for!

aquayen · 25/04/2023 20:51

I've only sold on those 70% off offers. It's not worth it otherwise.

I think people are moving on from eBay? Hardly any views nowadays and getting more difficult to sell. Scamming buyers too, they used to be rare.

tillyandmilly · 25/04/2023 21:04

Lots of people are selling now on vinted rather than ebay - ebay’s fees are ridiculous - I have found some real bargains on Vinted and more people are now searching on vinted for items to the point they get snapped up really quickly

BluebellBlueballs · 25/04/2023 21:07

I'm an ebay business seller and for me the fees are worth it because I'm paying ebay for access to a market.

I could probably sell slightly cheaper on vented but it's a lot slower and faffier and I'd rather sell my stock fast

If you don't mind waiting a bit for stuff to shift, vinted may be a better option. I've not had great experiences from it.

I have more success selling on eBay but I only sell with the 80% off fees offer

AprilFool23 · 25/04/2023 22:39

Tha k you everyone for your replies.

I'm going to have to look out for the discounted fees offers!

(Take it they're for private/non business sellers too).

I'll have to try Vinted again. I just find I sell much more easily on eBay.

Yes

Fantasea · 26/04/2023 16:25

The 80% off fees seems to come round every other weekend. It was on last weekend. I do the listings as a 'draft' and then list them once I've activated the offer when it comes in.

Thanks for the heads up.

I must be incredibly unobservant not to have noted them happening regularly before now.

Sorry I forgot to ask; can the discounted fees offer be used for BIN items as well as auction items?

(So the discount applies whenever the item sells; even if it's not during a period of discounted fees?)

OP posts:
Fantasea · 26/04/2023 21:25

@AprilFool23 yes you can use the discounted fees for both BIN and auctions. The discount occurs for BIN whenever it sells, even months later. The offer usually come in during the afternoon on the Friday and lasts until midnight on the Monday. You must 'activate' it though, it's not automatically applied to your account.

Dodie66 · 26/04/2023 21:31

Are the discounted fees only for private sellers

Yes I get them offered every 2 weeks usually

Many thanks for your help everyone.

The problem with BIN is the price has to be a certain percentage above the starting auction price. We list using auction with best offer, the settings let you choose what the lowest offer you're prepared to consider or accept.

Nottodayy · 27/04/2023 10:53

I’m on eBay since 2003, have 100% positive feedbacks nonstop ( 5k) private seller however I only get 70% fees off, some people get 80 , how’s that possible?

AprilFool23 · 05/05/2023 10:47

I now see the 80% off promotion but how on earth do I activate it?!

I can't click on it, I have no option when listing an item, Ive tried typing a search into help; I'm evidently being incredibly dumb here.

Can anyone help with how to activate?

Thank you.

OP posts:
AprilFool23 · 05/05/2023 10:59

I've found the promotion in my messages (and gone on the seller hub, which hadn't been on before after trying to find an answer on Google) ... Every time I click activate, it's goes to a screen saying "you have signed out" abdbinhabe no idea if I've activated the promotion or not.

(I was signed in and dud nothing to sign out).

AprilFool23 · 05/05/2023 11:02

I've had to sign in again, and now it says I e accepted the offer.

Now for some frantic listing 😃

@AprilFool23 so pleased you're ready to go! I've just looked and I don't have the offer yet but mine normally comes in a bit later on the Friday afternoon

Thank you Fantasea.

You'd have thought the promotion would be made active at the same time for all users

@AprilFool23 I've just had my message about 5 minutes ago. It's interesting isn't it when you find out about how eBay operates for other members, I'd also have presumed it was the same for everyone. Hope all your items sell nice and quickly!

It's odd.

Has anyone had their 70%/80% off variable listing fees offer yet today? I have got some drafts I've done in the week and am waiting to list them but don't want to be too hasty if the offer is running this weekend.
