I've had it with ebay! I'm again disappointed!

I've ordered this dress and was expecting to be BNWT and in original bag. Was I naive to assume it would not have been removed from the original bag?? It didn't have any tags, and it smelled of dirty clothes (I don't know if it had been used but it looked like it was kept in a pile of not so clean clothes). What's the point in selling it in original bag if it has been taken out and put back in????

I really like the dress and want to keep it but not for the price I paied for it!!

I ordered a velvet coat from Boden - it reeked of something... kind of charcoal like I think. Anyway, your seller may be honest. I had to hang it outside for days to shift the smell and my boot still whiffs from having the box containing the other size coat I was returning to Boden.

LaCerbiatta · 07/12/2007 11:45

Still no tags though! It's dishonest and a rip off and I'm really .

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 07/12/2007 11:46

Unfortunately, the listing doesn't say it has tags though so it's not dishonest.

lubyluby · 07/12/2007 11:47

boden stuff doesn't have tags! i have yet to receive an item from boden that has tags on it. occassionally it has like a little warning tag on say a denim item to warn you that the item will fade with washing or transfer colour but never had a tag like the ones you would have on a dress you brought form next.

i would expect it to be in the polythene bag though as they say its in the bag.

Niecie · 07/12/2007 11:48

Did the advert say it was BNWT and in the original bag because if it said that then you should expect that. I would send it back if it wasn't new.

THelesbellsRINGOUTFORCHRISTMAS · 07/12/2007 11:51

It says its with tags - e'mail the seller and tell her its not as described.

LaCerbiatta · 07/12/2007 11:53

Boden stuff does have tags (received a coat last week) and the item description does say new with tags, so it is dishonest!

So if it says in the original bag would you expect it never to have been removed from the bag? Or is it acceptable to have it removed and put back in? (in which case you can't guarantee it is the original bag can you? It could just be any boden bag.

So basically you can buy a dress, keep the bag, wear it and sell it as new inside the bag!!!!

I have emailed the seller, but what follows? Refund? I would be happy with keeping the dress but getting some money back as it can't be shown to be new. Is this totally unreasonable?

WhenScoobyGotStuckUpTheChimney · 07/12/2007 12:10

It does say New with tags & it says "brand new in bag" at the top so yes i would expect it to 1) have tags attached 2) be brand new & not smell 3) it could have been removed from bag for a pic but i don't think they have taken the pic themselves on the listing, so unsure why it has been removed from the bag.

I would say it has been brought & warn if there is no tags & it's abben taken out the bag, i would also complain & ask for a refund.

5GoldenFIMBOs · 07/12/2007 12:20

God its crap isn't it. I won Boden Boots for my dd which were supposed to be BN when they arrived they had a big wad of chewing gum or blu tack on the soles and had clearly been worn.

I had a chuckle at the description given with the dress though. Do you think the seller is trying to be a writer for the Boden catalogue? Although spell check might not go amiss.

Niecie · 07/12/2007 12:26

I wouldn't be too worried if it was taken out of the bag personally but if it was creased and smelly then I would be having doubts about whether it was brand new.

If the seller doesn't have a lot of Boden stuff to sell, I wouldn't mind betting she has brought as brand new and in a bag and she has tried it on and found it doesn't fit so she is reselling it.

Niecie · 07/12/2007 12:28

The reason I wouldn't be bothered whether it had been tried on or not is because you could buy something from any catalogue or shop and not know who has tried it on before you.

In this case though it clearly hasn't been treated very well.

LaCerbiatta · 07/12/2007 12:32

Is keeping it or refund the only options?

I'm honestly not buying anymore from ebay! There are just to many dishonest sellers trying to make a living out of trusting and naive buyers. I would be very happy to have paid £41 for a new dress but not for a used one. It's plain out of order. And this time I am giving a VERY bad review! I don't understand how all sellers I end up being disappointed with have 99% positive reviews.... Is everyone stupid or am I over demanding?

OP posts:
DoesntChristmasDragOn · 07/12/2007 12:42

Give the seller a chance to sort it out before leaving feedback.

As for the smell, like I said, my brand-new-from-Boden coat stank.

TinyTimsGangGawdBlessUs1andAll · 07/12/2007 12:42

I learned this too about Ebay. It's so annoying isn't it? I don't buy clothing on there at all now. It was disappointing 9 times out of 10.

If I use it at all nowadays it's for books/cd's. The other day I wanted some unusual buttons which were nice.

I can never believe how mad the bidding goes on there sometimes though. I think people must get carried away with the thrill of winning regardless of whether is a good deal.

LaCerbiatta · 07/12/2007 12:49

I know!! I think people think that because it's ebay it is a good deal. I realy wanted to buy this dress, still avilabe in my John Lewis for £75 so I checked on ebay to see if I could find it cheap and is being sold as a buy it now for £90!!!! Are people insane??? From my experience, BNWT means nothing, so people could be paying for a second hand dress more than it costs new...

OP posts:
LaCerbiatta · 07/12/2007 12:52

Well, DoesntChristmasdragon, my new Boden coat that arrived last week didn't smell at all, it was obviously new with tags. This dress isn't. And yes, I will give the seller a chance to sort it out.

OP posts:
DoesntChristmasDragOn · 07/12/2007 12:54

Oh, I must be imagining my 2 smelly coats then. Sorry for offering an alternative POV.

LaCerbiatta · 07/12/2007 12:58

Sorry, didn't mean it like that. I'm just saying that Boden clothes don't necessarily smell. I can understand a fabric smell, like a dye smell, iyswim, but this dress smells of dirty clothes, that's different.

My post was a bit flippant and I apologise.

OP posts:
Niecie · 07/12/2007 13:03

I sometimes think that the packages got smelly at the parcel depot. The smell seems to come from the box rather than the clothing but of course the clothing is affected. It happens too often for there to be loads of bad sellers all sitting in their homes, smoking over their new stock.

The reason dodgy sellers have seemingly good feedback is because people don't like to leave negative feedback as they don't want it themselves. You are guaranteed to get it from a disgruntled seller even if you are in the right and have justifiable grounds for complaint.

LaCerbiatta · 07/12/2007 14:34

Well, this dress was wraped in 2 plastic bags so I think the smell came with it...
The seller just told me that it is BNWOT (even though description says BNWT) and that she only took it out of the bag to smooth out creases . Yes I'm going to sell a brand new item on ebay that I have in its original bag but I'll take it out of the bag to remove creases and I might as well remove the tags while I'm at it.... Makes sense

Luckily I don't sell on ebay or plan to buy anything else so I'm free to leave whatever review I think is fair

OP posts:
wheresthehamster · 07/12/2007 14:46

Definitely misleading re tags and shouldn't be smelly. I would take it that's it's been worn therefore not new.

'In it's original bag' doesn't mean it hasn't been taken out though. I'm surprised that people think that. Personally I would think that anything clothes being sold as new would have been tried on otherwise what would be the point of buying the thing in the first place if all you were going to do was bring it home and sell it on Ebay
