Buyer contacted me 3 months after sale saying trousers are flaking

I sold a pair of vintage faux leather trousers in January.
Checked thoroughly before sending and there was no peeling or flaking.

(They are miss sixty pvu or similar coated cotton).

Buyer had contacted me saying she hasn't worn them til now because of lockdown, that black stuff/finish is staining other things and that the surface is flaking ..
Asking he what I'm going to do about it, and that I should have pre warned her.

I wore them once, to my memory, in 2010 and didnt notice any black colour transfer, and I checked the surface before sake a X they weren't peeling or flaking.

What do I do in these circumstances?

As usual I can't find any easy way to get through to eBay support and there is no answer specific to this issue.

The buyer doesn't seem to have opened a case (yet) .. perhaps because of the time after purchase (not sure if an issue).

Some ebay buyers are a right pain in the arse. If you want to avoid negative feedback and they weren't a lot of money, I'd probably issue a refund. Then block that buyer from bidding on your stuff ever again.

PVU doesn't last forever, and if she's stored them in the sun, they'll degrade even faster. She's had them 3 months, it's too late.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 17/04/2021 20:04

It seems like there's only 60 days after a purchase to leave feedback.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 17/04/2021 20:05

Did they pay with PayPal?

Mummyoflittledragon · 17/04/2021 20:06

I don’t think you can open a case after this length of time. Not an avid ebayer. Can you check the rules?

MarshmallowAra · 17/04/2021 20:10

@SuperLoudPoppingAction

Did they pay with PayPal?
Yes, I always have PayPal as my default.

Ask the buyer to return them so that you can check them. Then if they really have deteriorated, it might be best to issue a refund to avoid negative feedback.

MarshmallowAra · 17/04/2021 20:14

Just double checked and they are polyurethane on cotton.

They were definitely not peeling or flaking when I sold them; otherwise I'd probably not have sold them (or at the very least mentioned any flawed in the listing).

And of course if the buyer had noticed any - she would have contacted me when they arrived.

I don't understand them peeling with wear now (?)

Buyer Doesn't have a remedy in these circumstances. I would tell them that there is nothing you can do for her. The items were received in stated condition which buyer accepted by not raising a case. Now time has passed her case is extremely flimsy and I doubt eBay would give credence to her claim.

Pricklypear12 · 17/04/2021 20:37

She can't open an eBay case but can open a PayPal case and get money back that way. I would ask her for photographic evidence of the peeling/staining etc first.

MarshmallowAra · 17/04/2021 20:59

I've attached the photos the buyer has sent me, she's said;

'All the fake leather is literally flaking everywhere and it is coming off on and staining my skin black....I was wondering if you knew about this before selling them as I was not pre warned - I have not washed or laundry them since I purchased form you, so this it the state I have received them in. They are also incredibly sticky on the inner leg and if I cross my legs they like stick together and more black flakes off."

She says they're unwearable.

But the photosBags atrached don't seem to show any of the flaking or peeling, just the black residue.

I bought these second hand in the early '00s, wore them once on a date in 2010 when I felt like I needed to bring out the big guns (he actually dumped me after the fourth date so clearly that didn't work), I can't remember wearing them any other time, they've been too small for me for years and have just been hanging around in wardrobes and in hanging rails.... I didn't notice any residue off them and they definitely didn't have any peeling or flaking.

Incidentally they are washable, I didn't wash them before sending because they smelled fine.

I must have washed them.years ago after j wore them.

How much did she buy then for?!

Will they investigate/deal with both sides like eBay, do you know?

@Horehound

How much did she buy then for?!
£53.99.

I checked the other listings for the (very few) Miss Sixty Harriett faux leather trousers they are out there and they were about £60 so I listed them for 54

OP posts:
GravityFalls · 17/04/2021 21:05

So these trousers could be 20 years old and you haven’t worn them for 11 years...it seems to me they might well be deteriorating by now!

Pinpointer · 17/04/2021 21:05

I reckon with they images PayPal would refund her with a case being opened. Ask for them to be returned and then refund.

Theunamedcat · 17/04/2021 21:09

She is sweating thats why they have done that

MarshmallowAra · 17/04/2021 21:10

These are the trousers for reference. I posted these and one up close on eBay.

I took photos of each section of them before I sent them as well. They were not peeling or flaking.

That's quite annoying, she may have been wearing them daily since! I would have thought it was up the the buyer to check them thoroughly having bought them..

^This. She bought it 3 months ago. She is being unreasonable.

MarshmallowAra · 17/04/2021 21:13

I can't seem to attach any more images .. is there a limit to how many images you can post in a thread?
