Buyer contacted me 3 months after sale saying trousers are flaking

I sold a pair of vintage faux leather trousers in January.
Checked thoroughly before sending and there was no peeling or flaking.

(They are miss sixty pvu or similar coated cotton).

Buyer had contacted me saying she hasn't worn them til now because of lockdown, that black stuff/finish is staining other things and that the surface is flaking ..
Asking he what I'm going to do about it, and that I should have pre warned her.

I wore them once, to my memory, in 2010 and didnt notice any black colour transfer, and I checked the surface before sake a X they weren't peeling or flaking.

What do I do in these circumstances?

As usual I can't find any easy way to get through to eBay support and there is no answer specific to this issue.

She's clearly not telling the truth. Come on op! Don't be so naive

She's chancing her arm, CFer. Block and move on.

I had faux leather boots.

They hadnt been worn in five years and they had been under the bed in a bag. Took them out, wore them. They looked fine.

By the time I made it to my bf’s house they were flaking all over the place like black snow. I had a handbag that did the same.

Faux leather doesn’t last forever.

Have a look at what she’s sold and see if any of the items is what you sold her that she sold on for profit.

I’d probably offer a partial good faith refund if half the cost as they sold for a lot of money. However pointing out it was over three months since they bought it.

About what?

I think she was exaggerating to try to get a partial refund.

But I dint think she's lying about the trousers becoming sticky/tacky in places and find residue coming off now they're being worn.

And I've got to wonder what'll happen when they're washed - which you should be able to do with a pair of trousers that are described as washable.

Unfortunately for her she's left it too late - even a brand new item purchased from a retailer wouldn't be returnable after 3 months.

There is a certain amount of risk buying a 20 year old item of clothing anyway, especially for that amount of money - she should have checked properly.

I would politely and firmly tell her that.

Please remember to block her from buying from you again.

That she has damaged them herself and she's now trying to pull a fast one.

Disengage.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 20/04/2021 08:54

That looks like dye transfer.

They look like she's been wearing them lots over the three months and they are probably a tight fit in her so they have rubbed. I'd just stop engaging with her all together.

What happened in the end OP? I’m hoping you still have all your money and she backed off.

Sorry, haven't been on this forum for a bit ... She said something conciliatory about me clearly getting annoyed/frustrated and thus going nowhere and stopped messaging. I decided to let the thing cool down for a bit and decide off my own bat whether to give her some refund or not. I'd gotten annoyed by the continuous use of "flaking" when they are not, and by the continued reference to "solution" when she means refund. Petty but it was just running me up the wrong way, no pun intended.

I still feel like I should because the trousers are clearly producing a residue where they naturally rub, and they weren't cheap.
