Anyone fancy an eBay challenge to kick off the New Year?

My eBay/fb sales have been nice and steady over the last 12 months - particularly larger, more obscure items but I've come to a bit of a halt with the smaller bits and pieces so I'm going to spend a couple of hours this afternoon listing.

Anyone fancy joining me? My income has dropped quite significantly since September so I could do with boosting the funds to give me a little buffer. I also need to drastically reduce the amount of stuff in my little house and as the charity shops are closed, this could be a good compromise while I wait for them to reopen (whenever that might be).

My one and only resolution is to start unloading the wall to wall crap in my house. So yeah, I'm in!

CoffeeRunner · 27/12/2020 18:31

Yeah me too. I have a bedroom upstairs (mine) full of bagged up outgrown clothes from DS & DD.

Also lots of toys that DD has outgrown.

I have switched from full time to part time recently, which will give me a much more manageable daily routine - but also slightly less income.

Bottl · 27/12/2020 20:12

Woohoo! Let's do it Grin

Joining in... need to sell about half my wardrobe!

Bottl · 28/12/2020 13:01

Me too, butwhereis!

I listed two items yesterday, to go with the 4 items that have been on for months. I've taken photos of a few other things so will get those listed this afternoon.

I've been waiting for most of December for a max selling fee promo but haven't seen one so fingers crossed they'll do one for January.

First item sold yesterday - yay. Haven't actually got around to listing anything else though.

What kind of things do you sell if you don’t mind me asking OP?

Bottl · 01/01/2021 23:57

All sorts. Clothes, shoes and bags. Also, toys and nursery items. Household items.

I will join you! I have a goal to list one item a day (on any of the selling platforms) during January.

So far I have 6 things up, 5 of which have a bid. Mostly makeup so far. Loads of toys and baby bits (prams, unused cot, toddler clothes, etc) to get rid of as well.

Bottl · 02/01/2021 22:32

Welcome, @TrialOfStyle
Great idea to list one a day!
I did have some interest in a table that I have on fb but after half a dozen messages back and for, the fber has gone quiet. I'm very undecided as to whether I actually want to keep it or not so not too disappointed. I like the table but there really is too much stuff in my house!!

TrialOfStyle · 03/01/2021 14:10

If you listed it to begin with, you probably do want to get rid of it (though I do exactly the same thing and doubt myself like that all the time).

I have discovered two suitcases full of shoes that I’d completely forgotten about so it all needs to go. I saw another post about seeing mention Vinted so I might give that a go for clothes. I definitely forgot how time consuming it is though!

Bottl · 03/01/2021 18:08

Yes, that's true and when I feel like this about something, I generally stick to the price I've asked so if it does sell I'm happy because I've had a decent amount for it (if any of that makes sense Grin).

I've only used eBay for selling clothes/shoes and have reasonable success but a couple of friends use depop(?) - that might not be its name but that's what I hear when it's mentioned Grin.

Work starts back proper tomorrow and I'm hoping a bit of routine will kick start my listing routine.

Another item just sold. I put all of items on fixed price, rather than auction and get so excited when something sells!

How are your bids looking @TrialOfStyle?

I got a really good price for two cots during the first lockdown. They've been upstairs, dismantled, for years because I didn't think I'd get very much them but they went for £50 each and both within a couple of days of putting them on fb.

TrialOfStyle · 04/01/2021 18:19

Well done for your sales! That’s a great price. I’m hoping I can have some success selling bits like that. I won a Mokee mini cot and Moses basket last year that’s been in sitting in the garage so I really need to sell them.

So far I have bids on everything so far, and the majority are sitting at £10+ (pretty much all Charlotte Tilbury makeup from the mystery boxes). Once I’ve tackled those, I’m going to start with the clothes and shoes. I’ve downloaded Depop to have a look and it seems user friendly, though I may need to make more effort with my pictures Grin

Bottl · 05/01/2021 05:08

Ooh, great news you have bids on everything - I hope they all reach a good price.
Yes, get the cot/Moses basket listed if they're not going to get used.
I'd love an update on Depop once you've had a go. I find clothes, in general, more effort to list because you need to add more content in the description (measurements etc) - hence the huge pile of clothes waiting to be listed Blush

Woohoo, £1 max selling fee...get listing!!

I'm going to join in, if that's okay. How are people finding sales this month? Is it a good time to sell? Am hoping so!

Bottl · 11/01/2021 12:53

Hi @mum2jakie
I've been completely rubbish at listing anything this weekend Hmm but the two bags I listed earlier in the month both sold on fixed price listings.

OP posts:
mum2jakie · 11/01/2021 13:03

@Bottl thanks. Are you selling clothing? Was thinking of toys and books as the main things I need to declutter! Fixed price listings are probably the best way to go.

Bottl · 11/01/2021 13:10

I have got a few items of clothing photographed, ready to put on but can't be bothered to type up the description Blush.
I'm going to try and get a few things on tonight before the promo expires.
I also have some toys to list - mostly playmobil and a pile of Wii/Nintendo ds games which might get a bit of interest.

OP posts:
Bottl · 11/01/2021 14:05

Just listed three items. I really wish I wasn't such a procrastinator - that took 5 minutes.
I'll have a look through the eBay box later to see what else I can put on quickly before the promo finishes tonight.

OP posts:
mum2jakie · 11/01/2021 22:32

Last ditch attempt to make use of the promotion. Let's see how this goes...

Bottl · 12/01/2021 17:00

@mum2jakie - how did you get on?

OP posts:
mum2jakie · 12/01/2021 17:09

I've managed to put three things on. It doesn't actually take as long as I always think it does so should be more proactive really! Have already had an offer for one item which is promising - although I've declined because I based my prices on completed listings.

Bottl · 13/01/2021 11:21

Well done!!
I agree about it not taking as long as you think.
I have a couple of cheaper items I need to list so will get on and do those this afternoon.
