Anyone fancy an eBay challenge to kick off the New Year?

My eBay/fb sales have been nice and steady over the last 12 months - particularly larger, more obscure items but I've come to a bit of a halt with the smaller bits and pieces so I'm going to spend a couple of hours this afternoon listing.

Anyone fancy joining me? My income has dropped quite significantly since September so I could do with boosting the funds to give me a little buffer. I also need to drastically reduce the amount of stuff in my little house and as the charity shops are closed, this could be a good compromise while I wait for them to reopen (whenever that might be).

Hi all, I'm ready to join!
I've started off strong with listing things and aim to put on at least three more a day. I usually find an item that has sold already, (by filtering the item by sold /completed) and then I can match my price to what's sold, and use their template. Its so much quicker that way. I also use my hermes so I know the price and print off at my local parcel Shop. Its just getting into that routine, and keep plodding on. I've made £250 so far and I've only been listing since after New year.

Bottl · 14/01/2021 06:43

Welcome, @LemonSqueezy0
What a fantastic start!
What sort of things are you selling?
I also use myhermes because it's so much easier on several counts.

Thanks @bottl Smile

Im selling all and sundry atm. I've put on a few bundles of my stepson clothes, as they are great condition. Books, some nigella lawson bits that had been in the cupboard. They sold really well. My friend gave me some doll parts that she was going to take to the tip, and they sold exceptionally well, though they were a bit creepy tbh!

I've put some clothes on as set price, otherwise it feels like it's not worth it, and I'd rather give them away. Finding that they are going slow atm.

Bottl · 14/01/2021 20:18

Ooh, what a good mix of stuff Smile

I love it when the random things sell. Especially things like doll parts - seriously random! Grin

Another item sold yesterday and in the post today.
I've listed two more items that have been hanging around for ages with nowhere to go...they can move up to the eBay box now Grin

Well done @Bottl

I've sold one item and have a watcher for another. Will try and add some more over the weekend and get into a routine of listing regularly

mum2jakie · 17/01/2021 18:40

Listed seven and now have three more items to post tomorrow! eBay seems to be doing well at the minute - understandable with nowhere to go out and spend money!

Bottl · 18/01/2021 12:48

Good progress, @mum2jakie

One of my buyers last week had attached a message to say they were buying the item to cheer themselves up so we're providing a valuable service to help people through lockdown Grin

I've got a couple of watchers but nothing new listed since Friday.

i'm in.

i currently have around 12 listings active. one item has sold today £38! so i need to post that.

i have sorted through the dc's clothes and baby bits. and am slowly trying to get rid. have tried to lure buyers in with free postage too....

Bottl · 19/01/2021 20:13

@ememem84 - welcome! Ooh, good sale!
I usually offer free postage too - well, it's not really free, I just add it to my fixed price Grin

ememem84 · 19/01/2021 20:49

Thanks!!! In the time since my post I’ve had another sale £12. Wahooo.

Bottl · 19/01/2021 21:58

Yay!

Hi, can I just ask how you send your items. I have few bits that I need to sell but they are potentially worth £50-£100.
For the size/weigh, Hermes is cheapest option and will collect, but not sure what is best at the moment. I've only ever posted Royal Mail signed for in the past but only for cheap kids clothes in small packets.

Bottl · 19/01/2021 22:15

I use my Hermes for pretty much everything. For higher value items, I add the extra insurance to cover the value.

Thanks.

I've had a productive couple of weeks on EBay, selling two pairs of salopettes, a Spode bowl and a decanter. I think I'm up to over £100.

For the poster that asked about delivery, I usually put the dimensions into Parcel2Go which lists the various courier options. At the moment I'm using InPost (branch of Hermes) a lot as it's slightly cheaper than Royal Mail and I can stow the parcel in the lockers at my local station car park so I don't have to go into a shop to drop it off. I also find buying postage online at Royal Mail click and drop useful and my local post office gives me proof of delivery.

You can sync your ebay sales with both Parcel2Go and Royal Mail so you don't need to enter the addresses.

plg21 · 20/01/2021 09:03

I'm also copying my eBay listings to Facebook marketplace and Gumtree at the same time. Both charge no fees and it's less hassle than posting. I've found FB the better of the two so far, I've sold a Samsung tablet and some gym equipment.

Bottl · 20/01/2021 14:46

Well done, @plg21.
I didn't realise you could link parcel2go aswell. I've linked myhermes and it makes it much easier to sort out labels etc. I mostly use hemes because the drop off shop is just about within walking distance so I can get my steps in at the same time Grin
When you say you're copying to fb/gumtree, can you just share the listing or do you do it from scratch?
For some reason, I can't access marketplace from my phone and it seems to be more of a chore if I have to get the iPad out.

OP posts:
plg21 · 20/01/2021 16:06

I've probably not said that very clearly! I haven't worked out how to share the eBay listing but I just copy the description and photos over into FB and Gumtree so it doesn't take more than a couple of minutes. I have also posted some items on both of those sites and added the postage cost to the total.

I like eBay but I find the final listing fees (even during the promotions) on both the item and the postage cost do add up, as do the PayPal fees. The nice thing about the other two sites is that if the item sells for £10, you actually get £10.

mum2jakie · 22/01/2021 18:25

I've had another £1 max selling fees offer which will help to keep me motivated to list some more.

ememem84 · 23/01/2021 08:16

£113 made this week. Wahoooo. The majority of that will go to dsis though as it was her stuff I’d sold.

But another 8 things out of my house. Wahooo

Bottl · 23/01/2021 12:20

@mum2jakie - I had that too...need to get a shift on and list some things!

@ememem84 - that's awesome! The removing of stuff is as big a joy as the cash it generates

@plg21 I thought that was what you meant but wanted to check incase I was missing a shortcut somewhere Grin
I find fb and gumtree good for the bigger items, like furniture, nursery items etc

fridaynightdinnerandbaileys · 25/01/2021 07:17

Ooh can I join you please? I've been selling since November - we're potentially moving house and so I need to thin out the amount of stuff we have! I don't know if it's just that we have a small house with too much stuff, but does anyone else find that the house looks a mess when they're ebaying? I don't know if it's because I'm constantly going through stuff looking for stuff to sell Blush

heathergem · 25/01/2021 07:37

Hi all,

I've just read through all of your posts, well done to all the successful sellers!

I used to sell stuff on eBay about 10-15 years ago, mainly baby clothes, handbags & accessories.

I've not sold much since then as I found items were just going for eg 99p and the PayPal and selling fee didn't make it worthwhile. Taking stuff to the post office was time consuming as well.

I'm wondering if I should try again as I've loads of clothes to sell. I'ld normally donate to charity shops.

How do you folks think the eBay market has changed for certain listings?

Thanks and good luck on your sales.

ememem84 · 25/01/2021 08:44

Yep friday absolutely the house looks a mess. I have two boxes in the bedroom with stuff in them. Dh dispairs. But where else can I put things. Have to have them seperate from the “normal” stuff.
