Why are paypal payments showing as pending?

Yesterday I sold three things on ebay. All the different buyers paid within a couple of hours via paypal (or so emails from ebay said) but on my ebay, it shows the payments as pending and no money has gone into my paypal account. I know my account is OK because someone from MN paid for something via paypal yesterday and that went straight through. I have investigated why it might say payment is pending on ebay and there I found that it might show this if the buyer used an e cheque (?) I have contacted all my buyers asking them how they paid me, but none of them have replied.

This is bugging me. Anyone know what is going on please?

maybe they all paid with an echeque?

go into paypal and see the details of the payment. that will tell you when the payment will clear.

though we've been paid by echeque (yesterday) and the estimated clearing date is 5 november which seems longer than usual, so maybe a glitch?

sixlostmonkeys · 18/10/2007 15:57

if you click on details, does it tell you what type of payment it is and when it is expected to clear?

sixlostmonkeys · 18/10/2007 15:58

heh, x post with southeast

There is no evidence of any payment in paypal. The only way I know they have "paid" is I have had an email from ebay (not paypal) telling me so. But on "my ebay" it does not show the payment sign (£) but a sand timer sign which apparently means payment pending.

Probably an echeque, although whenever I have been paid by one, I have had an email notifying me of it. In my experience, they usually take over a week to clear and are a PITA, but there's not much you can do about it if someone chooses to pay by one.

sixlostmonkeys · 18/10/2007 15:59

is your email addy in ebay the same as the paypal email addy?

DumbledoresGirl · 18/10/2007 15:59

And when I go to my account on paypal, no transaction is shown.

No 2 different addresses.

sounds odd, payment, even with an echeque would show up in your paypal account.

mumfor1standfinaltime · 18/10/2007 16:00

It could just be paypal or ebay 'catching up with itself', try again in a few minutes and it may show it is cleared, this has happened to me today.

SoMuchToBats · 18/10/2007 16:01

If an echeque, it should show up in your Paypal account, but as Uncleared, and the total won't have been added to your balance (until it clears)

sixlostmonkeys · 18/10/2007 16:01

you must have the address for paypal for them to be able to send to your paypal otherwise it will ....well....go elsewhere.

just like if you want someone to send a letter to you you need to tell them your address to go on the envelope

sixlostmonkeys · 18/10/2007 16:05

see if you can your other email addy to your paypal account.

if you can't you will need to ask your buyers to cancel their payment and then send another payment to your paypal email addy

saltire · 18/10/2007 16:10

It's just taken 9 days for an e-cheque payment to clear on my account. I got an email from paypal saying it was going to take a few days to clear. Can't remember though if it appeared in paypal whilst waiting to clear, i don't think it did.

How are you BTW DG?

DumbledoresGirl · 18/10/2007 17:05

There shouldn't be a problem though. I have had loads of payments via ebay in the past few weeks and one yesterday via MN, which was immediate. These 3 payments were all supposedly made yesterday so I don't think going back to paypal in a few minutes will make any difference.

I think I need to contact ebay as it seems suspicious to me that this should suddenly happen with three separate payments. Anyone tell me how to contact ebay? All I get is FAQ when I try to enquire about this.

Saltire, I am not having a good week. Too long to explain here, but the problem is not helping any!

have you changed the email address recently?

nicand2 · 18/10/2007 17:13

Hi,

I had this exact same thing happen to me last week, no record on paypal and only the timer on e bay. It turned out that they hadn't changed my new e mail address so the payments went into a void. I had to get all the buyers to cancel first payment and send another to my new e mail address,

sixlostmonkeys · 18/10/2007 17:16

look at the top of the listing at the items that you sold. It will say buyer paid by paypal to youremail@blahdotcom.
Does this match the email address you get when you login into your paypal account?

southeastastra · 18/10/2007 17:59

the answer board for paypal on community are really helpful

DumbledoresGirl · 18/10/2007 18:14

No, I have not changed my address at all. I am just going to go and look at the thing sixlostmonkeys suggested I look at....

OK, not sure where you meant SLM, but it does say in the summary at the top of the listing of the items I have sold that I am waiting for three payments.

ive had an egg timer come up when someone has paid by paypal and the money isnt in their paypal account so has to come from their bank (is that an echeque?), but is always shows in paypal as pending too.

ive also had it come up when a buyer has used checkout and marked it their end as "payment sent". she told me she was sending it by cheque through the post though. as i never recieved said cheque and opened a dispute with the fibbing sod, i dont know what i would have done about the egg timer had i received the payment. ive closed the dispute and re-listed, but its still there now.

DumbledoresGirl · 18/10/2007 18:21

Ah OK, I see where you meant now SLM. Yes, I think I can see the problem. For some inexplicable reason, the payment has been sent to my ebay address, not my paypal address.

OK, now what? How do I contact ebay to notify them of this error? Do I email the buyers, ask them to cancel the payment and make a new one? Why has this happened?

Sorry for going on about this, but it is driving me mad (dh has just come in, said "You are getting in a tizz" and walked out again - very helpful

DumbledoresGirl · 18/10/2007 18:34

Sorry SLM, see if I can what my other email addy? Not sure your first sentence makes sense?
