Why are paypal payments showing as pending?

Yesterday I sold three things on ebay. All the different buyers paid within a couple of hours via paypal (or so emails from ebay said) but on my ebay, it shows the payments as pending and no money has gone into my paypal account. I know my account is OK because someone from MN paid for something via paypal yesterday and that went straight through. I have investigated why it might say payment is pending on ebay and there I found that it might show this if the buyer used an e cheque (?) I have contacted all my buyers asking them how they paid me, but none of them have replied.

This is bugging me. Anyone know what is going on please?

sorry - add your other email address to your paypal account.

the payments have been sent to the email addy on ebay. if you attach this addy to paypal you can claim it

sixlostmonkeys · 18/10/2007 18:43

login paypal - > profile tab ->Account Information -> email -> add and then make primary

Oh sod it I have completely buggered everything up now. I am sooooooooooooooooo frustrated!

I worked out it was all my mistake in the first place - I put the wrong address down when I listed. So as I still have 2 items for sale, I went to amend them. I amended one but the other, instead of amending, I listed it again! I am in such a mess. How can I get rid of that listing without paying fees?

you can't - if you end the item you will still have to pay fees - you could however amend it to something else you want to sell

sixlostmonkeys · 18/10/2007 18:50

you don't need to amend teh live items if you add the email addy to paypal

DumbledoresGirl · 18/10/2007 18:52

Sorry, just sitting here sobbing. It has all gone completely wrong.

OK, I have emailed the three buyers of the sold items and told them to cancel their payments and re-send to my proper paypal address. But they did not respond to my emails yesterday so I wonder if they will respond to this one.

Then I managed to change the paypal address on one item I am selling but the other one won't let me change. The address (and other sections originally filled in by me) are coloured grey and won't respond when I try to change them. Why is it doing this? I am going mental here.

does it have bids on?

DumbledoresGirl · 18/10/2007 19:03

Yes But I only want to change the paypal address. SOB!

OP posts:
sixlostmonkeys · 18/10/2007 19:05

well that's prob the reason why you can't amend.

crikey - can't think of a solution because if you ask these new buyers to send to a different paypal addy they may get suspicious.

any luck in adding the addy to the paypal account? may solve this problem

DumbledoresGirl · 18/10/2007 19:09

Oh no do you think so too? I was thinking I would have to sit by the pc as the auction ends and quickly email the winner to tell them I had put down the wrong address, but I did think that might sound dodgy. Can I amend the written description bit do you think? Just to add a line to say if you win and want to pay by paypal, email the buyer first?

OP posts:
DumbledoresGirl · 18/10/2007 19:11

I don't want the other address added to paypal because it is my real name and I like to keep paypal and ebay under my nickname (originally gave ebay my real name address because I had no other address at that time to give).

DumbledoresGirl · 18/10/2007 19:19

Right, I have shoved a HUMUNGUS bit on the end of the description saying I gave the wrong address and please email for the right address if you win the item. I can't do more than that I feel.

Also, I only just amended the other item in time as someone has just bid on that too.

Thanks so much SLM for your help. I have had a complete melt-down here and I still don't know what I will do if those other buyers don't read their emails and act on them but I don't think I can change anything else now. So melt-down is sort of over, children have been roared at and sent upstairs, I really need to sit in a darkened room for a bit! I owe you one SLM.

A lot of payments are now going through ebay as echeque its a pain in the backside to be honest it takes 9-10days to clear

Niecie · 19/10/2007 10:45

Hi,

I haven't read all the posts on this, only the first few so I don't know if anybody has already said this but it sounds to me like these customers are all wanting to pay by cheque rather than through Paypal. An e-cheque would show up on Paypal, an ordinary cheque in the post wouldn't. However, the people in question have gone through the check out procedure which is why you got the egg timer on ebay and you should also have got an email saying payment in on the way.

Niecie · 19/10/2007 10:49

Oh sorry, just read that you have changed your Paypal address - that will probably be it then.

However, what I said still stands unless you specifically asked not to be paid by cheque in which case they wouldn't have been able to check out and say they were sending a cheque payment by post.

I'll keep my thoughts to myself next time, shall I?

Mawma · 19/10/2007 10:51

No they want to pay through paypal niecie and it goes through as an echeque still funded from a paypal/bank account into their paypal

Niecie · 19/10/2007 11:38

Mawma, I realise that echeques go through Paypal. I was just saying that if it didn't appear on Paypal it might be because they had checked out and wanted to pay with an ordinary cheque. You get the same hourglass either way. I didn't realise initially that they had defo paid by echeque and that the Paypal account details had changed, hence not showing.

Serves me right for not reading all the posts.

DumbledoresGirl · 19/10/2007 15:41

The really annoying thing is that I have not changed my address. For some stupid reason I (I suppose it was my fault) put my other email address down for my paypal address when listing the items.
