Do you ever avoid tellig seller item is NOT in good condition because you are scared you will get negative feedback?

I got a boden skirt that stinks of smoking.

Im nervous to raise it with the seller. Previosely I waited till I recieved feedback. but they seem to be waiting till i do.

i suppose i am just annoyed. I paid £12.50 for a boden skirt that "excellent condition , clean, and ready to wear". I would not have paid that if it stinks. Not sure it would come out straight away in a wash, and i hate the smell.

I'm in the same boat - paid £15 for Boden shoes which had the leather sole coming away on both shoes at the point of the toe - had to buy some special glue to fix it.

Have deliberately not left feedback - and am not going to.

Totally understand why you're pissed off - hope it washes ok

I have also on occasion deliberately not left feedback. I also get annoyed when i bought a skirt in the summer and it was a really heavy winter weight. The item look georgous (as i presumed it was a summer skirt). Wish the seller had mentioned that.

So, they get to sell an item for a good price, you get a mucky item and nobody else learns they aren't as honest as they should be. I thought you could qualify why you leave the feedback you have which led to yours not being great?

I, too, bought a book that was described as brand new only to find the seller had tipp-exed their name off the front of it! It doesn't bother me really but a bit naughty of them. Didn't know what to say in feedback so said nothing!

yes bracing air - i think seller should be made to leave feedback as soon as i pay - cos thats my part of agreement - i bought some shoes that were cappy but did not dare say= the second i left feedback he did too

its manipulative and unfair

BracingAir If someone leaves neg feedback about you, you have the chance to explain why.

I bought a purse a couple of years ago which was advertised as Christian dior - ok so it was cheap and a fake but it didn't say it was a fake. Anyway, after 3 days of use on holiday it fell apart. When I got home I contacted the seller and they didn't get back to me initially, then I sent another message and asked for my money back. They left really horrible negative feedback for me and I then had to justify it. I think the feedback scenario is really unfair. I am loathe to leave neg feedback because they then do the same to me. I think they need to look at the system.

Personally, re the skirt, I would wash it and then febreze or neutradol it - that should get the smell out.

Someone left me neutral feedback (ok not negative but was still offended) because some maternity trousers that I sold were baggy!!!

WTF?

Really didn't understand that and replied with instructions on how to adjust the waistband correctly on maternity clothes

But most reasonable people will realise that the other person was unreasonable. Let's face it, if dodgy sellers are getting 100% it isn't worth all that, is it?

maybe if previous buyers had left appropriate feedback warning future buyers none of you would have bid, won and been disappointed.

Feedback is there for a reason - it is to warn potential customers. It is not something that must be kept at 100% at all costs - unfortunately people are now paying those costs.

Don't fear the feedback

If im unhappy with product I always contaxct the seller first to see if they will resolve the issue - if they do then I lieave posistve feedback

it would make more sense if there was seperate feedback % for sales & purchases.

Even if someone leaves negative feedback for non-payment, you cant stop that person from bidding on your sale and once again non-paying.

And when you purchase, you can see,eg 100% of their customers were happy.

in fact, i think its a really good idea.

It would be good to have some clear indications of 'buyers' feedback.
i would like to see something that indicates number of times a buyer has been refunded.

If these were set in place a seller could set their preferences to (for eg) not allow bids from buyers who have received 6+ refunds in the past 6 months. Or not allow bids from buyers who failed to pay 2+ times in the last 6 months...etc

Sorry, I should have been clearer. I have blocked PITA potential bidders before (does it come with the box AND carrier bag AND original receipt? No, darling, because if I still had all that I'd take it back to the shop for a refund and not fart about on eBay answering questions from time-wasters like you), but I meant I'd love to be able to set my preferences so that people with a lot of refunds couldn't bid on my auctions.

You do know you can set bidding preferences as well don't you?

Mine are currently to block bidders who:

Have a feedback score of -1 or lower

Are currently winning or have bought 10 of my items in the last 10 days and have a feedback score of 5 or lower

Have received 2 Unpaid Item strikes in the last 30 days

what would be the point of having a feedback score of -1? Wouldn't the ebayer just set up a new account?

Very interesting discussion. I just spent a lot of money on an item which arrived in poor condition and is damaged. I am very unhappy. It is SOOO important to leave feedback. I have asked for a refund but it is not forthcoming. Have opened dispute resolution but I'm not that hopeful. Just fed up that my hard earned cash has gone down the pan and I have to now go out and buy another! I think they should give some guidance on how to describe items. E.g. what is excellent/good condition, you must state whether you originally purchased the item second hand or brand new. I think Ebay just wash their hands of any dispute.

I am glad I stumbled on this thread. Have received an item today which was £3 charged for P&P, and only £1.50 actually spent. Even taking into account packing materials (just a bit of brown paper) and sellers time, I still think this is OTT.

The item is otherwise fine.

I feel I should say something but not sure what I would say - do I contact them first, do I leave positive feedback and then mark them down on the stars! They have not left feedback for me yet - I do think it is tantamount to blackmail and Ebay should rectify it - maybe they could do it so that the buyer does not have the option to leave feedback until the seller leaves theirs?
