I suspect the seller is bidding against me to raise the price

There was absolutely no interest in this item, and I asked a question where I foolishly said how desperate I was to win it.
Almost immediately another bid was put in from a brand new ebayer (no feedback etc) and they have bid higher than me every time I renew my bid.
Maybe I'm just sour as I really want it and it is now too expensive.
But do ebay hav ways of preventing this from happening?

be careful tho as cash when you collect sounds dodgy to me

oooggs · 30/05/2007 11:43

what happened - did you make an offer????

Caroline1852 · 30/05/2007 11:43

Why would they not set a reserve price?

oooggs · 30/05/2007 11:43

sorry devil x post - keep us informed - just nosey

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 30/05/2007 11:44

I have stated I want to collect outside the venue and will pay only when ticket has been verified as genuine by the door staff.
He can take it or leave it now.
Even if it turns out to be a scam it isn't too much trouble as DP works near the venue, so not much is lost.

good luck then, so who is it to see then?

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 30/05/2007 11:46

Gogol Bordello
They will be spectacular.

PinkChick · 30/05/2007 11:48

never heard of them but just googled and they seem v.popular, good reviews

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 30/05/2007 11:52

They are gypsy punk, which is so far from my usual tastes.
I have seen live videos of them and they are amazing. They have stunning dancers onstage and a very hot topless double bass player who swings around it.
I love bands with a sense of showmanship. Basement Jaxx are the same, last time I saw them they had a troupe of proffesional can can dancers. So much more fun than when I saw Keane who just postured and looked a bit misreable, lol.

ooh i like gogol bordello

I'm sure it will work out! Enjoy

DaisysGotSausageFeet · 30/05/2007 12:01

you did the right thing by avoiding a higher bid...and I would still report them to eBay, as this sort of thing is definately agaisnt their trading policy!

wheresthehamster · 30/05/2007 13:10

I have looked at the auction (I have no life) and you are not even the second highest bidder, there were 2 zero-rated bidders bidding against each other to make it look real. What a scammer. Report it tomorrow - after the concert.

Wolfgirl · 30/05/2007 13:22

Pleazzzzzzzzzzzze def. report it. Away with these scammmers!!!!!!!!!!

UnquietDad · 30/05/2007 13:27

I've often thought this happens with houses too.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 30/05/2007 13:54

UQD it must! Surely an agent can just invent bids, and you would never know.

Nooooooooo
It has actually worked out fine, no scamming, very much genuine tickets, but now I don't have a babysitter, so DP is going without me.
I am so bloody annoyed

OP posts:
aDad · 30/05/2007 16:25

nooo. How annoying!

btw I think it's very rare that tickets esp for smaller bands are not genuine - although your seller's tactics were pretty out of order.

PinkChick · 30/05/2007 16:57

oh no, cant you get anyone?, friend family, emergency childcare.co.uk????

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 30/05/2007 17:03

No my friend was going to, along with her flatamte who is an hnd chikdminder but her flatmate can't and my friend is too nervous.
Never mind. Friend is coming over anyway with lts of cheese, meats, crisps, bread and dips so we will watch the bb launch and I will try not to cry.
I just know this will be the best gig of the year and argggggh

popsycal · 31/05/2007 16:23

did you report him afterwards?

JoolsToo · 31/05/2007 16:26

concert tickets do generally go for a lot of money too

JoolsToo · 31/05/2007 16:27

sorry should have read the whole thread!

frenchleave · 31/05/2007 16:41

Unquiet Dad - yes it definitely does happen with houses. The estate agent tried it on with my parents - tried to tell them some "doctor from Yeovil" (why?!) had put in a higher offer. They smelt a rat and stuck to their guns, and miraculously the "doctor" pulled out the next day.

popsycal · 31/05/2007 18:19

just had an ingenious idea!!!!
get two blank whitew stickers....write the first half of their name on one and the other half on the other

put first half ib lft shoe and last half in right........

depends on them being able to read thier name though...
