Contact Ebay's fraud department I guess. And change the password

whomovedmychocolate · 26/05/2007 21:31

You mean your paypal account presumably. You need to log a call with paypal. DO NOT REVEAL ANY INFO TO THIS WOMAN, SHE MAY BE A FRAUD.

whomovedmychocolate · 26/05/2007 21:31

Oh and the person claiming to have paid needs to log a call too - his account may be suspended while they figure out what's happened.

OP posts:
misdee · 26/05/2007 21:47

its over 3 grand. sh*t.

OMg what will happen?

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 26/05/2007 21:47

You'll be fine. It's clearly fraud.

whomovedmychocolate · 26/05/2007 21:49

Misdee - look, as long as he hasn't given his password to someone then it's fine. Can I just check though - you don't use online banking? Just in case you have a keystroke logger installed through a trojan?

misdee · 26/05/2007 21:55

i do, but he doesnt. he doesnt even have a bank account with the bank people have been paying into.

they have the same name on the bank account.

OP posts:
CarGirl · 26/05/2007 21:56

that's so scarey

misdee · 26/05/2007 21:58

no bills in his name either.

dh went bankrupt 4 years ago so nothing in his name except an ultra basic account witrh a different bank. no debit card, no credit cards, nothing.

OP posts:
misdee · 26/05/2007 22:05

how can i check for keystroke logger? have upto date norton which scans almost daily i think.

OP posts:
misdee · 26/05/2007 22:10

we think they used his account as 99.9% feedback and not been used for selling for 2years.

OP posts:
whomovedmychocolate · 26/05/2007 22:11

Misdee - yes and Norton (now what is the correct technical term oh yes I remember) sucks

Sorry but I've had to fix quite a few 'protected by Norton' pcs lately.

Hang on a sec I'll find you some software....

whomovedmychocolate · 26/05/2007 22:12

this is called Adaware and it finds spyware and other nasties

More follows....

whomovedmychocolate · 26/05/2007 22:15

Actually adaware will do for now. It'll identify any probs and sandbox em....sorry got to run and feed DD. Try not to worry too much. These things happen.

jetsetmum · 26/05/2007 22:16

This happened to me a year ago - someone starte listing loads of IT stuff from USA & people started paying for it.

It was also an ebay account we didn't use. I only found out about it as some one send us an ebay message to say it looked like we had been hijacked.

we reported it to Ebay fraud (as the link below) and if by magic all the activity disappeared without trace within a day or two & we changed the ebay password to a more secure one and have not had the problem since.

i'm sure you will get it all sorted.

misdee · 26/05/2007 22:17

people have been paying money into this f*ckers bank account direct.

OP posts:
whomovedmychocolate · 26/05/2007 22:18

Then they are very bloody stupid aren't they!

misdee · 26/05/2007 22:19

yup!

should i message those who havent paid to not send payment? account is already suspended due to non-payment on fees.

OP posts:

How did the buyer get your phone number? I didn't think you could get details like from eBay. I think that given the amount of money involved you might need to contact the police. If the buyer paid into a bank account then there may be a chance the police could trace the fraudster that way. Who knows how many time the same person could have hacked into accounts and made £3,000 each time.

How horrible for you, you really don't need this.
