they didnt change contact details, our phone number is on contact details.

did change his secret reminder word though.

have now changed all passwords and reminders.

i have tried contacting the police they have said its a civil matter, and they cant do a thing

I don't see how it's a civil matter. Surely fraud is a criminal offense.

It's very sad for the buyers, but I'm surprised that anyone would part with that much money without the relative security of Paypal.

misdee · 26/05/2007 23:05

i know bran , i dont get it either. its in ebay's hands now. once its all sorted dh is shutting ebay, paypal and his hotmail account. he doesnt use them very often due to him being very ill, so says its just a sitting target really.

This has happened to me twice in the last month - apparently I bought over 100 laptops and mobile phones in the US. The best way to deal with it is using 'Live Help' on Ebay. I found that they didn't respond to my emails, but with Live Help I was chatting to a real person who sorted it all out while I was chatting.

Be aware - the hackers also tried my Amazon account using the same password (I know - dumb) and hacked into it. Once we changed everything we received a threatening email giving us 10 hours to tell them our new passwords!

I too called the police who told me to call my network provider - they were useless. Spoke to five people before getting connected to India where I was just told 'don't worry'. I gave up after that, but haven't had any problems since then.

Misdee - it's very important you don't contact any of the buyers for two reasons:

(1)One of them may actually be the crook and you will tip them off they have been rumbled.
(2) It's up to eBay to do this - if you become party to it, then it becomes associated with you and you don't need the hassle. I know it sounds horrid but let eBay sort it, it's so common and they can best advise these folks.

Which reminds me, off to do my monthly password changes.

misdee · 27/05/2007 10:17

there have been several more emails from people who bought tickets. oh god. if ebay are still givng our contact details out will i get more phone calls about this? what if they give out our address? i am panicing slightly.

whomovedmychocolate · 27/05/2007 12:00

Go into your account and change your phone number to 00000 000000 then.

misdee · 27/05/2007 12:50

good idea!

OP posts:
misdee · 28/05/2007 22:12

OP posts:
j20baby · 28/05/2007 22:24

OMG what are they threatening?!

misdee · 28/05/2007 22:27

that they will come here and find us.

OP posts:
RnBee · 28/05/2007 22:29

this happened to us Misdee. Someone was trying to sell ipods at rip off prices on our account. Ebay sorted it out really quicky. Change your email password too.

misdee · 28/05/2007 22:31

haven changed all passwords. its bank holiday, havent heard from ebay yet. tried sorting it out on their live chat thing, and they couldnt help. i feel like crying.

OP posts:
whomovedmychocolate · 28/05/2007 22:32

Misdee - they are cross because they don't understand what's happened yet. They will go away. Just ignore them. You can write a rule in your email programme to file all those emails in a folder (anything involving the word 'ebay') and only look at it when you are feeling a bit better.

Realistically, it's bugger all to do with you and your DH and so don't even bother reading them. If someone is horrid enough to be sending threatening emails they deserve all they get IMHO!

whomovedmychocolate · 28/05/2007 22:32

Misdee - have you definitely filed a fraud complaint?

j20baby · 28/05/2007 22:32

who? the hackers?

how dare they! ring the police, surely threats aren't a legal matter.

poor you

misdee · 28/05/2007 22:33

yes, i think so. filled in all the details, theft of account thing. the link that was further down. is that the right one?

OP posts:
teafortwoandtwofortea · 28/05/2007 22:33

can you change the address details on the account? Ebay doesn't usually give out the seller address details as far a I know.

Hope they sort this out quickly for you misdee, it's the last thing you need.

whomovedmychocolate · 28/05/2007 22:36

In that case, don't worry about it. You have changed your phone number right? In that case, just sit back and ignore the emails. No point pursuing it, these people are just hacked off - they did something stupid by using this payment method and they've got stung.

Ebay will take ages to sort it but you've done your bit. I would make sure you make a note of when you change any details though - just for your records and so when they ask you about it you remember what you've done.

Try not to worry, this happens all the time.

misdee · 28/05/2007 22:39

oh god, i hope you are right and these people just go away.

i want ebay to sort this so we can just close this account down completely.

OP posts:
whomovedmychocolate · 28/05/2007 22:41

Of course you do! It will get sorted but it'll just take a bit of time. I find calling ebay every day till they sort it helps.

By the end of the week it'll be sorted!

misdee · 28/05/2007 22:43

i cant find a number for calling them.

OP posts:
sparklygothkat · 28/05/2007 22:45

me and Misdee found out that the bank account was at a bank in bristol!!!! like Pete could get to Bristol!!??
Are the buyers threatening you? or the wanker?

whomovedmychocolate · 28/05/2007 22:50

0208 605 3000 is their switchboard number
