I have been a fool. What should I do?

I bought a pram on ebay. I got loads of photos and was convinced it was in good order. It's arrived and it is in excellent condition

BUT

it stinks of fags

Now, the listing didn't say smoke free and stupid me didn't check.

I have removed all covers and washed them. They've been hanging out on the line all day and I Febreezed them this afternoon.

But they still smell

What shall I do? feeling like a complete fool and DH is not going to be happy.

You'll be amazed at how many people puff away in childrens parks, walking with prams, in cars with their kids etc etc, it's not till you have your own you notice it.

I would also leave the pram in the sun for a while, to lessen the smell...

I heard that you can get strong smells like smoke, out of clothes if you hang them over a very hot steamy bath with vinegar in it, overnight....never tried it tho... worth a try if nothing else works...???

ooooh that's a nice pram - i looked at that! it was too heacy though for my liking!

ooh i would not dry clean it: remember seeing some programme ages ago about a baby who got ill after being wrapped in a christening shawl that had been dry cleaned, it's the chemicals.

try looking on www.moneysavingexpert.com on the 'forums' section there is an 'old style cleaning' section, you might find something useful in there, it's full of good advice.

could you stand it in the bath and 'shower' it?

It still smells this morning. And it's raining so I can't put the covers out.

hang the covers out in the rain.

I saw on that myth busters programme that vodka was good for removing fag smells... but somehow I think that having a baby buggy smelling of vodka wont be any better!
he he, no, they put the vodka with the test garment in the wash I think, and it did smell better than the other one that was washed normally

ceolas don't panic, our chair (totally inwashable- computer chair ) took a few weeks but is fine now. You have plenty of time.

have you tried sprinkling bicarb on it, leaving it for a day and then hoovering off?

Havent tried bicarb sprinking yet. The covers are still outside and I have to say smelling a lot better now although still a faint whiff.
