Dodgy?

DH sold a chest of drawers on eBay in August, the woman who won the bid paid via PayPal but wanted to collect it in person. Tbh I didn't know this at the time, I just presumed she would be paying cash.

Anyway DH has received notice from PayPal stating that the buyer paid cash for the item when she collected but a payment from PayPal has also come out and now PP have put a hold on the money. She paid via PayPal 4 days before collecting.

We aren't big ebayers, in the past we've send items in carrier through DH's work or they've paid COD.

Anyone had this happen before?

Oh dear, I think this might be dodgy but try contacting the buyer to ask about it. Keep it very polite and factual. Perhaps they have made a mistake. Did you get them to sign anything when they collected? All you can do is try and take it up with ebay and see if they can help. Maybe the buyer has "form" for scams? I think this is why people on here always say never do paypal for collection items only cash. Hope it gets sorted.

Good advice from R64 above, unfortunately this is why you never accept PayPal for items which are collected.

However, even if you did get the buyer to sign anything, it won't make a difference. To win a case like this, only a proof of delivery from a courier will do.

DH has messaged her to say she's obviously confusing this transaction with someone else as she paid via PP but she's saying that she paid cash on collection too which doesn't make sense.

DH has filled in something from PP so will wait to hear from them. So would you contact eBay as well?

She's not saying she hasn't received the item, but that she's paid twice - once two days before collecting it and then cash when she picked it up.

what is the official reasoning against the hols of the PayPal funds? It won't be "also paid cash upon collection" it will either be "not received" or "not as described" (or similar.

No she didn't pay cash.
The reason from PP is 'not received goods' but then the buyer has messaged DH back to say she has had the item but has paid cash when she collected but somehow paid via PP 4 days before.

She's paid once. By PayPal. 4 days before collection.

Now she's claiming to PayPal that she paid twice. Once by PayPal and once, in person, with cash. She has reversed the only payment she made and the OP's DH has no proof that she collected the item at all.

She's lying. He's not. He can't prove it. Sad

All collection items have to be cash on collection
I hope it wasn't a lot of money

She's said in a message to DH that she paid in cash when she collected the item therefore proving she came here to pick up the drawers.

You are unlikely to win I'm afraid. Scammers deliberately try to pay Pal Pal for collection items for the scam

Yes he's messaged her back saying that no cash was handed over and that she must be mistaken because a payment was made via PP 4 days previously.

Why would anyone pay via PP which is documented then say they'd paid cash?

How did she communicate this to dh? Is there a paper trail? Any e-mails etc?

She's not disputing collecting it. She's just saying she paid cash ( even though 4 days before she'd paid via PP )

it’s a well known scam and, knowing ebay, you’ll be fighting a losing battle...to them, the customer is always right.

Same with paying with paypal then collecting in person and claiming they’ve not received it. Sorry OP.

She's laid an email paper trail to con eBay and PayPal into thinking she has paid by cash.

But she hasn't.

She only paid once. By PayPal.

Now she's got the item and you have no proof she didn't pay cash, she's trying to get the payment reversed.

Bitch has done this before. Angry

That's the scam. She only has to say to PayPal she paid twice. PayPal are all about buyer protection
You are now in the position of having to prove you got cash
It's depressing how many dishonest people there are around

I still don't understand why PP/eBay would be on her side if they know she paid when she won the bid but then paid again when she came to collect.

Who would do that?

Anyway she's been in contact late last night to say she's sorry there's been a mix up.
