Seller asking me to send more money for postage

MightyMcMe · 23/06/2017 18:48

Just purchased some crockery. Initially they listed postage as 2.80. I queried this. They changed it to 12.90. I lurched item for 9.99 plus the 12.90 postage. Anyway I've had 3 messages today saying they've posted it but postage was 3.50 more than they thought so please can I send the extra over.
I thought they had to honour what they had put in the listing? I have occasionally taken a knock this way when selling.
WWYD?

I wouldn't send more money. They told you the price and you made a decision to buy based on the price given.

delilahbucket · 23/06/2017 18:55

Do not send any money. The onus is on a seller to check postage costs before listing.

EnglandKeepMyBones · 23/06/2017 19:03

'I'm very sorry that postage has cost you more than you specified. However, I queried postage in the first instance and the onus is on the seller to ensure that they state the correct amount. As such I will not be transferring the extra.'

Done.

Chewiecat · 23/06/2017 19:04

Don't transfer money over. Sellers can't leave a negative rating for buyers anyway so it's fine for you

SheRaaarghPrincessOfPower · 23/06/2017 19:08

Wait until it arrives, check its OK first, then reply saying that you won't be paying more postage.

MightyMcMe · 23/06/2017 19:09

Thanks that was my thought too although I'm pretty rubbish at being tough.

I replied as per England above. He has replied as below.

'Perhaps you would like to pay this small amount as you have had the china for smallest amount advertised and I did say I would send it at cost which I have done'

In other words I was the only bidder and it started at 9.99. I did question the 2.80 postage as I said and didn't have to. I am
Inclined just to ignore and not reply?

Just ignore it. If they didn't research postage costs before they listed the item, that's their problem, not yours.

MightyMcMe · 23/06/2017 22:44

Latest reply!!

'How disappointing of you ,I hope you are happy £ 3.50 extra Have a look at yourself in the mirror , I don't know how you people sleep ,Denby is wasted on you it is too good for your type'

I feel bad as am a confrontation avoider but am annoyed too.

When it arrives, smash it to pieces with a hammer and then report it as not as described.

Not really but very tempting.

MightyMcMe · 23/06/2017 22:47

Incidentally they get 100% feedback. I notice they have more stuff listed for inadequate postage so I'm guessing most people just cough up.

PastysPrincess · 23/06/2017 22:51

I listed an item once that later on it turned out the postage was a lot more than I thought. You know what I did... nothing! It was my fault for not finding out the true cost first.

You could reply with this
"For future reference:

MightyMcMe · 23/06/2017 22:56

Thanks. I'm tempted to pay just because they know who I am and where I live.

If the seller is a regular on eBay, this just sounds like a clever ruse to make their item look more appealing. Then once they've sold the item they rely on the good nature of buyers to pay more for postage. Don't feel guilty - try to forget about it.

hugoagogo · 23/06/2017 23:00

Tell him from me to stick it up his arse!
It's tough, I have done it, dh has done it, loads of people have done it.
What we don't do is expect other people to cough up for our stupid mistakes!
Seriously ignore him.

HeyRoly · 23/06/2017 23:02

That message is hilarious!

I sell on eBay from time to time and if I underestimate the postage then I suck it up. My fault for not calculating properly. And it's VERY easy to accurately calculate postage via the Royal Mail website.

CheeseCakeSunflowers · 23/06/2017 23:04

I would be inclined to report the messages to eBay.

MightyMcMe · 23/06/2017 23:06

They have number 663 and 100% positive . 25 feedback in the last year.

OP posts:
MightyMcMe · 23/06/2017 23:07

Problem is if I report to eBay that will upset them even more!

OP posts:
MadamePomfrey · 23/06/2017 23:09

I would report them to eBay that is not ok we have all underestimated postage it's a part and parcel of it and if they weren't happy with the minimum price again that is their problem! I agree if they are selling a lot it seems like a ruse to get people bidding report them and let eBay sort it out

RippleEffects · 23/06/2017 23:11

Report, report, report. To ask for more was cheeky. To demand more rude, that last message was really nasty - abusive even. It ruins eBay when sellers behave like that.

catkind · 23/06/2017 23:14

I think EnidBlyton has it. This reads scammy. If it was really a mistake they'd have corrected the postage on the other items as soon as you pointed out yours.

Is there any way you can report on ebay without actually raising a case on the item? Assuming he does actually post said item in the end.

Missmac84 · 23/06/2017 23:20

It is their issue not yours. I recently messed up with postage and ended up £6 out of pocket. I wouldn't have dreamed of demanding the extra charge being paid when the error was mine and not the buyers. X

MightyMcMe · 24/06/2017 07:31

Thanks all. I'm going to look into reporting it. I'm such a wuss though that still tempted to pay. But that last message was really unpleasant.

Oh come on man up. The persons a loon.
