He made a beautiful table for a train, books etc to go in the boys bedroom. Mum, in her wisdom has decided to sell it (the boys now need the space back.) anyway, new to ebay, so i put it up for bidding. (how do you price something that was hand made?) problem now is there is only one bid (£1.00). I'm sure its worth more than a quid!. DP is gonna be gutted after the hours he put in. ohhhhhhh Nooooo and it ends in about 8 hours. Can I do anything, have I got to sell. Oh what a cock up.

I have 3 watchers. I've just had a quick read of help pages, and it is too late to end. (Less than 12 hours, 1 bid, 3 watchers).
why oh why did i think it would be a good idea to sell on ebay. I stupidly thought, it would be a 'wanted' item, that would generate a lot of interest and bids. I suppose thats the gamble. Anyway, wasn't ebay on the news to do with fake bids or something, or am i yet again barking up the wrong tree. (OMG I'm sounding more like my mum, Agggghhhhh

I'd get you're friend to 'buy' it. We've done that before for someone.

beckyeliza72 · 05/02/2007 13:18

did u read my message?

crumbs · 05/02/2007 13:18

TBH I'd go down the friend route too - all it will cost you is the fees.

brimfull · 05/02/2007 13:19

beck is willing to help!!

beckyeliza72 · 05/02/2007 13:20

well i can if i get a mail! lol

crumbs · 05/02/2007 13:22

How much would you be happy to let it go for? Let Beck know and she can bid that. If you get more bids, so much the better, you can go through with it.

Or if you'd rather have more time to think it over, ask Beck to bid a huge amount - £500?! At least you'll buy yourself time then to consider what you want to do.

CurlyN · 05/02/2007 13:22

beckeliza, thanks for the offer, yes, got your message. Just, thinking.... if i decided to take the great advise given. Is there anyway I/we could, well, get caught....

might be worth asking for this thread to be deleted once you're sorted!

Has anyone else had trouble with getting into MN. Oh no what have we started!!

OP posts:
piglit · 05/02/2007 13:55

I understand your problem but what you're proposing to do is called shill bidding and totally against the rules of ebay (and the Fraud Act 2002).

I would definitely ask for this thread to be deleted!

brimfull · 05/02/2007 13:56

yes site was too busy for me to get on for a short while

brimfull · 05/02/2007 13:57

you can end it now ,jsut contact the bidder and say it's too been damaged.

I did this with a pair of boys shoes, only realised they were two different sizes a few hours before the end.

CurlyN · 05/02/2007 14:02

Do you know, I think, my gut feeling of sticking it out and doing the right thing is defo winning. I guess i'll just have to put it down to a big lesson learnt. If it goes for a quid, then another 3 and DP can play squash on thursday night.

beckyeliza72 · 05/02/2007 14:28

maybe i';m genuinely interested in buyin it !

crumbs · 05/02/2007 14:35
Grin
piglit · 05/02/2007 14:41

And when no money changes hands they'll be on to you like a shot.....

crumbs · 05/02/2007 14:42

But what if she pays cash on collection?

CurlyN · 05/02/2007 14:44

ah ha maybe you are my bidder!!! well if I had been a bit more senisble i would of put a reserve of £20.00 on it or even a buy it now. But its my mistake, i've learnt alot here today ladies, and for that I thank you. Next time i think of selling something, I will comeup with, A PRICE (more than a quid!!)

piglit · 05/02/2007 14:45

I'm only trying to warn her about the pitfalls. It's up to her if she decides to go ahead with the shill bidding but Ebay are really hot on it at the moment.

CurlyN · 05/02/2007 14:48

thanks piglet. don't worry, thats what i thought about this shil bidding. that they are very hot on it. I will stick with what I have done, and wait and see. Hey you never know, maybe whilst corrie is on, the biggest bidding war will be going on in the last 3mins.. Oh i do hope so.

OP posts:
crumbs · 05/02/2007 14:52

I think we'll be hoping for the best for you

foxtrot · 05/02/2007 14:53

Is it too late to add to the listing to emphasis the fact that the train set is included (assuming i'm looking at the correct listing LOL) Adding Key words like ELC wooden world, similar to brio, compatible with thomas the tank engine and so on will get the item picked up in more searches.
Not sure if you can add once you have a bid tho'.
