He made a beautiful table for a train, books etc to go in the boys bedroom. Mum, in her wisdom has decided to sell it (the boys now need the space back.) anyway, new to ebay, so i put it up for bidding. (how do you price something that was hand made?) problem now is there is only one bid (£1.00). I'm sure its worth more than a quid!. DP is gonna be gutted after the hours he put in. ohhhhhhh Nooooo and it ends in about 8 hours. Can I do anything, have I got to sell. Oh what a cock up.

piglit, just out of interest, say i sold it, buyer turns up, goes to hand over their quid, then realises they don't like the colour, its heavy, bigger than they thought, or any other reason for changing their minds at the last minute. Then what...would ebay still be looking for money

whats the item i will outbid everyone, but i dont want it, is that ok?

then you can relist it later

misdee · 05/02/2007 14:57

oops just read the rest of the thread

CurlyN · 05/02/2007 14:57

I tried that earlier (well within the last 12 hours) and i can't.

Just had a look at it. It's really good - can see why you are gutted about the £1!!

CurlyN · 05/02/2007 14:58

really thanks, but NOOOOOOOOOOOO lets not go there.

foxtrot · 05/02/2007 14:59

It's not paypal, so ebay will not know if money has changed hands.
If it's any reassurance, this kind of table seems to go for £10 upwards. In the yellow box on the left side you can check the show completed listings box and it will show you items that have sold recently. Do a search on play table, then check the box.

CurlyN · 05/02/2007 15:00

thanks he's good in he my DP, seen the other item. Our Merv. Ohhhhh so sad end of an era.

OP posts:
Aloha · 05/02/2007 22:36

I'd have got a friend to bid.

ScoobyDooooo · 05/02/2007 22:43

I would also have got someone to bid.

colditz · 05/02/2007 22:46

Contact the bidder, and say "God i'm really sorry but my son flung himself off the bunkbed and broke it into smitherweens."

Chandra · 05/02/2007 22:54

If it is the one I think it is, IT'S BEAUTIFUL, you can not let it go for that money! I guess if you post the details of it here, or how to find it on ebay (item number) you may get much more than a lesson

CurlyN · 05/02/2007 22:57

I know I know should of..... but i was really stupid, and was honest, see the threads on ebay MN. I couldn't, was so afraid i would be doing something that would have ended in trouble. and now.... white wine don't mix with red... running out of booze. F.Uped

OP posts:
CurlyN · 05/02/2007 23:17

ok , so the buyer turns up at the door, bearing in mind I already joked on MN that we would have a party on the GD table, including ice cream. obviously we haven't, but how can I put her off. I am aware that watchers have gone up, quite a bit, since i posted my querie.. yes querie on MN this PM. I'M >>>>>

Try a really friendly email telling her how your son is now gutted and you just can;t go through with it. The worst that can happen, I think, is that you might get a slapped wrist from ebay. Seriously, I'd try it.

So sorry

jabberwocky · 06/02/2007 07:57

We have bought things in the past and then gotten an email saying that it was damaged in the packing process and money was refunded. I don't think there is anything ebay could do about this, just don't put it back up for sale again.

ja9 · 06/02/2007 09:43

oh curly! i thought you would have got a pal to bid on it for you... can't believe you let it go for a £1.

on the other you've nothing to lose by contacting the buyer and trying to negotiate something else - as a new ebayer its not like you have your feedback record to protect....

CurlyN · 06/02/2007 10:45

Thanks for being there. DP bless, said "oh well at least the boys will have the space in their room for single beds". LOL its gonna cost more to collect from us. and a car isn't big enough.

OP posts:
southeastastra · 06/02/2007 10:47

you could say you advertised it in the paper and have been offered £25 for it, maybe the buyer will match the price if they want it.

personally if i'd won it for a pound, i'd pay more when i'd seen it. i wouldn't have the cheek to just hand over a pound

CurlyN · 06/02/2007 10:54

Funny you should say that, my friend has just offered £20.00 but, we are unsure if we would be breaking any rules. Gotta stick to the rules!!

OP posts:
southeastastra · 06/02/2007 10:56

you're a good ebayer!

april74 · 06/02/2007 13:35

Surely if your friends wants it for £20 then she can bid for £20, dont see how that breaking any rules
