Would anyone buy expensive jewellery on Ebay?

I ask as I've set myself up as a seller of second hand luxury jewellery brands. It fits in nicely with the kids and the turnover is ok but I'm convinced that there is a potentially untapped market of people who would be interested in what I've got to sell (>50% off genuine Tiffany) but are too scared to do so.

So I'm keen to know, if buying precious items on Ebay is an outright no no or if there might be anything an Ebay seller could do to make you feel more at ease about it?

I have sold Chanel on eBay. You need to photograph whatever details show that it is genuine. Give a 100% genuine money back guarantee. IME most buyers were international. I always photographed receipts but if second hand probably not possible.

I think the thing with Tiffany or the likes, as a buyer I would worry they were fake, so would be very wary of buying. Plus you risk a buyer returning a fake item for a refund maybe.

Gosh I don't know - is very difficult isn't it. Question of trust, and I know with jewellery lots of people want to try things on don't they.

I have bough Tiffany off eBay and I have had it verified so it won't be a problem for me. If it is fake, there is buyer protection so I wouldn't worry. You may find if you are starting out, there is a limit to how many designer items you can sell and eBay will stop your account if you sell more than the limit

I personally wouldn't. Also as Fergoose said, a buyer could swap your original for their fake and claim their money back from you.

What if you saw a Facebook ad advertising 50% off second hand Tiffany and when you clicked you went through to a web shop? Would that seem more appealing than Ebay. What would you have to read/see to feel 'safe'?

I don't know if I would trust it to be honest. I think something like Tiffany I would only buy online from a big retailer.

Aha - finally found the ebay topic! Interested in this thread as I tried to sell a Chopard necklace on ebay - with original box and certificate - but no one bought it. Not sure whether to try and relist it after what folks have said about the buyer potentially returning a fake and asking for a refund.

New one would go for £1370, tried to sell it for £500. (Posted in chat as well because I didn't know there was an ebay topic and someone pointed out valentine's day not far off)

depends what your feedback is like, quality of pictures, ending time of listing, etc - but i would imagine quite difficult to sell on ebay - trust issues, etc. The site is rife with fakes so many buyers are very wary.

I have no seller feedback - never sold anything before. I do have a friend who sells stuff so she has good feedback. I could ask if she'll do it for me but she'll want a commission. Do you think that would have a better chance?

no seller feedback is probably a lot to do with it. It is a lot of money to spend on a second hand piece of jewellery - I think you need very good feedback, excellent professional looking pictures with lots of detail, end the item at the right time of day (ie evening).

Well the photos were pretty good and it ended at 9pm tonight but the lack seller feedback could be a problem. Might ask my friend who sells on ebay what she thinks - don't knwo if she's every sold jewellery.

If I want to change the options from auction only to best offer or buy it now I don't know if I can 'relist' or if I have to create a new listing.

doesn't matter what ending time a buy it now is at - it only matters for auction listings

I wouldn't sell anything high-value on ebay.

Too much risk to the seller IME. so many dodgy people using it now.

Ok, new question! Item was unsold, was considering relisting it but haven't as yet. Have just had an email (through ebay) from someone offering £350 for it (was originally listed at £500). Can I do this? Does it violate ebay rules? Does ebay still get their % if I do it this way? Help please!
