Not sure if I've made a grave error here. Have put almost new P&T pram on starting at 99p to encourage bidders, week long listing. Bidding is only up to 16 quid so far!!! 3 more days to go. Aaaargh! Can I do anything? Am I complete muppet??

Have you put it as collect only?

fuckityfuckfuckfuck · 11/12/2011 21:43

With 3 days to go I bet it'll stay low right til the last day. It won't go for too low, don't worry.

PippiLongBottom · 11/12/2011 21:45

Don't panic- keep your cool. 99p always attracts buyers. The only down side is the time of year. I bought a Bee this time last year for a bargain because it was so close to Christmas. I am a prolific pram buyer and EBay user.

LadyMetroland · 11/12/2011 21:47

Yes, it's collect only. Aargh! Bought it new for over 400 quid

I did this recently, bidding went crazy on the last day, it'll be fine.

fergoose · 11/12/2011 21:55

If you are not happy cancel the listing, then list again with a reserve and offer a courier too

I wonder if it may be too close to Christmas to be honest to get a good price

LadyMetroland · 11/12/2011 21:57

how late in the day can you cancel the listing? Could I cancel it within a few hours of it ending, if things aren't going well?

Have got 52 watchers so hopefully things will take off a bit

OP posts:
fergoose · 11/12/2011 21:59

you can cancel up to 12 hours before the listing - but you may find the final bidders only bid in the last few seconds, so is impossible to tell that early how much it will end at.

naturalbaby · 11/12/2011 22:00

can you put a reserve on? what are you hoping for?
your listing is the type i stalk desperately and hope a get for peanuts! phil and teds are pretty much guaranteed to do well though, i've bought and sold one via ebay.

JingleyBalls · 11/12/2011 22:00

You can cancel it with 12 hours to go at the very latest, can't cancel it after that.

If you do decide to cancel, try have it end on a Saturday or Sunday rather than mid week.

Good luck.

fergoose · 11/12/2011 22:01

you can't put a reserve on once there are bids on it

BertieBotts · 11/12/2011 22:02

Look at some completed listings which have sold for high amounts, click onto the listing itself and in tiny writing next to the final bid amount it will say "11 bids" (or however many). Click on this and see what the start price was and it will tell you when the bidding really started hotting up as well.

Although as others have said if you are getting cold feet you can always cancel and try again in a few months.

PiratecatClaus · 11/12/2011 22:03

or get a mate to bid on it and win it.

is that bad?

fergoose · 11/12/2011 22:05

incidentally - don't take paypal if it is collection - you must only accept cash from a collecting buyer

fergoose · 11/12/2011 22:06

And please, no don't get a mate to bid on it and win it - that is shill bidding, you could both lose your accounts and you will also end up with final value fees to pay

LadyMetroland · 11/12/2011 22:11

Really fergoose? Thought everything had to be paypal? Don't like the idea of dealing with cash

Think I'll see how things are going 12hrs beforehand and take it off if it looks really bad

OP posts:
fergoose · 11/12/2011 22:16

collection must never, ever be paypal - check the threads below - a mumsnetter sold a mobile phone last week, buyer paid £485, collected the phone then hours later the payment was reversed. No trace so scammer has had phone for free and seller has no way of getting their money back. That is unless the police have caught up with the scammer. You should only take paypal if you have online proof of delivery, like signature with a courier or special, recorded delivery

So no - whatever you do, do not ever take paypal for a collection item - otherwise you risk losing your item and the money. Why wouldn't you accept cash anyway - free as opposed to the paypal fees you would be charged.

LadyMetroland · 11/12/2011 22:26

But sellers have to offer paypal as a means of payment - you can't refuse

(thought I understood ebay - obviously I don't)

OP posts:
fergoose · 11/12/2011 22:32

yes they have to offer paypal for items, but you are allowed to refuse paypal for collection items

PippiLongBottom · 11/12/2011 23:23

OMG, 52 watchers is AMAZING! Seriously. Like I said, I am a prolific seller (and buyer of prams) and that is an extremely high number (although lots will be rubberneckers) and FWIW I only ever snipe in the last 6 seconds so if you are going to brave it you must brave it until the bitter end which is when you will see the bids come in.

On a positive note, some pregnant ladies might be able to buy a pram for the baby for christmas with money from grandparents etc, so it could work in your favour.

LadyMetroland · 14/12/2011 22:50

so, upshot was I braved it out and the pram went for 305 pounds. Relieved it wasn't worse

OP posts:
BethanyAndTheCrew · 15/12/2011 07:05

OMFG! i cannot believe you have 52 watchers! i am terrible for sniping though, i hate losing things on Ebay for idiotic prices. If i put £20.00 in and the cheapskate bidders put £20.01 and i lose by 1 penny! I think Ebay rules have gone down the pan, ever since they keep changing everything around. I bet you got a bit for a new P&T :)

God Bless
Obsessive Pram Buyer

PippiLongBottom · 15/12/2011 12:19

Bethany, you're not a very good sniper if you put in £20. Thats basic entry level sniping. No wonder you get beaten all the time. Grin

I paid £180 for my immaculate P&T and it came with the doubles kit, rain cover, cocoon and everything. I also got a Bee for £160.

I am an awesome sniper.

sarahtigh · 15/12/2011 20:50

always snipe st something odd like £20.56 or for like the pram not £300 or worse £299 but £304.76

LadyMetroland · 15/12/2011 21:03

wow - you must be brilliant ebayer Pippi. I'd be seriously annoyed if I'd sold mine for 180. 305 is acceptable so I'm fairly pleased. Think I'll stick to just buying things off ebay from now on, selling is too stressful!

(72 watchers by the end!)
