Shared motherhood through IVF

Me and my wife are just beginning our journey to have a baby! As we both want to be involved we have opted for shared motherhood ( me,carrying my wife's egg, with doner sperm- this will involve us having ivf treatment) We have decided this so we are equally involved! Due to the lack of suitable sperm in this country we have been looking at the California Cryobank (we have found the PERFECT donor!) Just wondering if any other same sex couples have gone through the same treatment or have used the this sperm bank???

Any advise or help will be really appreciated

Thanks
J&D

You’re absolutely right, positivity is the main thing, I wish you nothing but nothing luck for your journey ladies. I will keep adding to this thread if ok with you, and I’d like to know your progress and how you both get on? It’s nice to find another same-sex couple going through the same as us. That’s not bad, I thought it may of been more. £1k off is never going to be a bad thing Grin

I know ... but in ivf what is £1000 anyway hahaha!
I literally have everything crossed for you. Let me know how you get on on Monday

Everything crossed for you to ladies, baby buddies sounds good to me :D. The clinic have just phoned us, her blood levels are sky high so we aren’t having the hcg trigger tomorrow and they are changing it something else as they don’t want to increase her risk of OHSS. And it looks likely they’ll do a freeze all for the eggs on Monday and then a frozen transfer when her levels go down. What’s another 4 weeks wait when you’ve waited over a year Wink. I’ll check back in on Monday, have a lovely weekend. Flowers

Gosh how scary, at least they have caught it and and she hasn’t already over stimulated... My wife was advised to drink 1 litre of milk a day to stop over simulating (not sure how it helps)
Have a lovely weekend... speak to you Monday!

Yes exactly it’s better to be safe than sorry. The PCOS doesn’t help matters either or her high amh level and number of follies 25 on right ovary and 24 on the left all measuring 18mm+ so she’s pretty packed in there. We had to go for another scan this morning her ovaries are now so big they are touching one another Shock. They changed our trigger to Buserelin instead of the gonasi trigger, apparently much too risky to have hcg trigger when levels are so high. Anyway last injection done at exactly 10pm tonight and we are all set for Monday morning at 10am. Fingers crossed we get lots of good eggs that can be frozen ready for a FET in a few months. Disappointing to have to wait again, but my wife’s health comes first. I’ve never heard of drinking milk to stop over-stims, maybe something to look into? My wife can have the milk, I’ll stick to the Wine.

Well we are home from the egg retrieval. It was horrible, my wife felt the whole procedure despite the sedative they give and was in hysterics when she came through to recovery. It was horrible to see her like that. They got 21 eggs which they were all really pleased with and they are going to be mixing them with our donor today and will ring tomorrow to let us know how many have fertilised. I have never been more proud of my wife. At least that is all over with and now it’s just letting her body relax and come back to normal. Ivf is such a stressful process that’s for sure.

You poor things that’s awful! At least the hard bit is out the way! That’s a great amount of eggs to collect thought! Fingers crossed! ❤️ my wife went for her first scan today and she is at 8/9mm follicle growth, the consultant seemed really happy so we are to continue as planned! I wish you all the best and hope you both get plenty of embryos ❤️

That was much the same for us, the wife felt like she was housing 2 birthing balls, I never knew you could feel your ovaries but she could! All is good over here just waiting to start our FET in a few weeks. Wife swollen tummy is going down, luckily we’ve avoided OHSS :-)! Ooo exciting one more shot tomorrow then your done! I bet your wife will be glad to see the back of them, although she’ll have to start those pessaries (beaver bullets) as we call them in our house Grin fingers crossed all goes well for you both, looking forward to an update on how many eggies you manage to get! Oh of course doh silly me! Well you have the pleasure of the beaver bullets then you lucky thing Grin are you triggering with gonasi? We had to trigger with buserelin due to the risk of OHSS. Almost at the end of the tunnel ladies, wishing you all the luck in the world! Flowers x

How so weird?? @jessstan2 It is a terrifying process but one many women go through to have a baby, and I’m sure anyone that has gone through ivf would say it is all worth it.

Beaver bullets .... I will use that 😂 yes we used the exact same, so I fell to sleep at 10pm and had to wake up at 11:30pm to give my wife the shot ( I was so tired, I shouldn’t have been in charge) I woke up this morning and couldn’t remember doing it 😕 so egg collection is tomorrow morning! It’s all getting so exciting!

Will let you know how many eggies we collect...
have a great day!

Nemo, I only scanned the first post before. I had the idea that somehow a man was carrying his wife's egg with donor sperm and couldn't get my head round it. Now of course I realise it is a same sex couple - both are women. Phew!

Heyyy, everything went really well, sedation completely knocked out wifey so she was in no pain at all.... they collected 33 eggs 🥰 we were so shocked! They have told us the precautions of OHSS, but everything seems so promising! Any idea when your transfer will be @nemo1189

Wow! 33! Congrats that’s an amazing number, Grin and I thought we had a lot with 21! I bet your clinic were so pleased with the number. I bet you’re both so nervous to know how many fertilised, will they ring you tomorrow to let you both know? Will you be having a fresh transfer? Looking likely it will be mid feb for our frozen transfer, the wife needs to have a period and then phone the clinic on the first day of it so we can get the medication delivered so looking at mid-feb for one of our little eggies to go back in. Grin so pleased for you both! Looking forward to hearing an update Flowers

Heyyy, so wifey went and had the anecova device taken out and we had 30 mature eggs and we now have 11 fertilised eggs 👶🏽 Literally over the moon. Obviously wasn’t hoping for 11 babies but it’s a possibility now! We are having a fresh cycle, I am booked in on Monday to have them transferred and then it’s my turn to shine. The all the member of the clinic have said
Well done on the amount of eggs collected and the maturity of them all!
The beaver bullets we aren’t they a treat 😂
I hope your wife is okay, not much longer and you both will be having your transfer too.

Hey, wow amazing news! 11 is great fingers crossed they keep developing until transfer on Monday, 11 is a great number just in case you loose some before Monday you have plenty of little eggies to fall back on Smile. Good luck for the transfer Monday, I bet you both are so excited. I bet they were pleased it’s a great number of eggs! Beaver bullets are certainly...something else Grin. Yes, the wife is all ok back to her normal self, we are just ready to get one of our little eggies back on board. So much waiting around in this process. Love and best wishes to you both. 💜

Hey @nemo1189
Everything went well, one perfect little embryo on board... seems odd being able to bring it home ❤️ So I was told that my progesterone levels are low so I need an injection to boost it.. I have had to take 4 (yes I repeat FOURRRR) pessaries today! Going to speak to the clinic on Wednesday to see what is going to happen .. but
We are both over the moon! How is your situation going?
