This is the first time on this topic but i really could do with your help.

I need to find a christmas present for my DH.

He is the worlds best present buyer. For example he has sent me and my Mum on the Orient express for a wonderful day out.He regually buys me flowers, buys beautiful jewellery and perfume and quirky original gifts for birthdays and christmas.

But, he is a real pain in the arse to buy for.

He doesn't drink (allergic to alchol) doesn't smoke, doesn't wear jewellery (apart from his wedding ring),not into sports etc

But, he loves cars of all types (a real petrol head and mine of useless info)but he subscribes to Top Gear already, totally into photography-subscribes to a couple of mags, has so many cameras it's getting silly-especially as that was my profession and not his!
I have sent him on driving days etc and have run out of ideas.

I really want to wow him this year as he is one in a million.

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

does he have an ipod/itouch/iphone thingy

we got my dh an inscribed Itouch last year and he loved it and I notice Apple are doing the same again this year

Tortington · 11/11/2008 21:11

send him up in a balloon.

pickie · 11/11/2008 21:16

there is a company were you can subscribe to and hire high performance cars for the day/weekend. Will ask Dh what it is if you like.

nobodysfool · 11/11/2008 21:16

Thanks for replying

Dizzydixies-He hasn't got an ipod-he says he hasnt got time to listen to music on his own!

Custardo- I have threatened a balloon trip before, he is not keen on heights.

He really is awkward to buy for.

Try and get him tickets for a Top Gear recording (don't know how but maybe check out the bbc website)followed by night out somewhere fab in London

Erm - does he like car racing or just cars? Maybe try and get him tickets to some important race coming up next year or something?
Am quite our dh sounds fab. Can he speak to mine please?

nobodysfool · 11/11/2008 21:16

Pickie- sounds like a possibility would you mind asking your dh.

dizzydixies · 11/11/2008 21:17

well thats even better, get him one and set it up with all his favourite music (am assured its easy to do) and then tell him to take the time to use it

dh uses his walking the dog etc and loves it

MrsThierryHenry · 11/11/2008 21:19

Take him ice-skating. Or on a fabulous, romantic day out. Doesn't have to be expensive, either - just thoughtful and tailor-made.

nobodysfool · 11/11/2008 21:21

Lukesmammy- great idea about the Top Gear show.He really is very thughtful in every way. This will make you laugh i have been diagnosed with gestational diabetes and have to follow a low-GI diet.He is doing it with me so i don't feel like i'm missing out on anything.
Feel free to throw up at any time

Mrs TH.The money side of things has never impressed either of us-my fav gift he ever bought me was a silver ring he bought for me while he was at college. Its more the thoughfull presents that impresses us.
I love skating but i'm 29 weeks pg so probably give that one a miss

tickets for Top Gear show are notoriously hard to get hold of so good luck

what a star, when I had GD dh followed it too but only because I do the shopping, am quite sure there was some indulging going on when I wasn't about

dizzydixies · 11/11/2008 21:27

have you looked up ticketmaster for your area for sometime next year, maybe once baby born and you're ready to do it you could go for a night out?

I took DH to the comedy club and to see Spamalot in London and he LOVED them

pickie · 11/11/2008 21:29

super cars Eye watering expensive, had no idea!

Silverstone also do one to one tuition in high performance cars which is a less expensive option!

nobodysfool · 11/11/2008 21:39

Pickie- May have to sell the house to finance that one.

I have registered for the Top Gear ticket-2 to 3 years waiting list

pickie · 11/11/2008 21:42

yes so would I! Was a good idea though, my DH is also notoriously difficult to buy for.

nobodysfool · 11/11/2008 21:44

He has been on two race days-one his mum and dad sent him on and the other i did.See what i mean.Impossible.

LadyOfRObamaffle · 11/11/2008 21:45

A model car? (Franklin Mint type rather than toy!). DH loves airplanes and for his birthday I hunted down a desktop model of a Vulcan for him.

ClaireDeLoon · 11/11/2008 21:53

Ooh your DH is into exactly what my DP is into - cars and photography.

So - what exactly is he into car wise? Particular make of car? Old cars? New cars?

Does he like racing? If so what type (F1, rallying, touring cars etc) and what era. Does he have a favourite driver or racing team?

Photography - that's a toughie as everything is so expensive lens/camera wise. What type of pics does he like to take? Can you organise a day for him where he'd be able to take the sort of pics he likes to his hearts content? EG if he likes to take motorpsort pics get him a day at a track?

nobodysfool · 11/11/2008 22:03

ladyof-he would probably love a model of a car for a few days then it would sit in the corner of a room gathering dust.

Clairedl- he especially likes new cars and all the new and improved technology that goes with them-seriously he can gob smack people with the trivia he knows.
He is mainly into lanscapes and 'off the wall' street photography.Good idea re day at a track to photograph cars zooming round.Or maybe we could just get our dh together so they could bore impress eachother with their car crap knowledge and then take photos of each other on a hill?

ClaireDeLoon · 11/11/2008 22:25

Ahh I'm not so good at the new stuff LOL, my DP likes old cars! But tickets to something like the touring cars (BTCC) aren't too expensive - or A1GP. Try looking at the official sites

btcc

A1GP at Brands Hatch

nobodysfool · 11/11/2008 22:27

Thanks for the links will have a good look at them.

Its people like him that make it so bloody difficult for the rest of us.

Driving with a difference - somebody got me this last year (not my DW!) - tanks

ToughDaddy · 12/11/2008 21:07

Look no further RadioOftheYear. DAB + WiFi + FM: simply the best

ToughDaddy · 12/11/2008 21:16

best thing about DAB radio is the Bird Song station

StubbleOnChin · 12/11/2008 21:23

A cookery course? For a particular type of food he likes? There is a chef in all of us trying to get out! But then again may not be right for a petrolhead.
