.....and despair at the education system that churns out these muppets.

Oh dear!!

PortAndLemonaid · 18/12/2007 13:38

I love the look on the face of the little boy...

UnquietDad · 18/12/2007 14:29

Oh, the wonderful US education system....

"Is Fraynce a country?"

"Ah hearda Turkey but I ain't nevvuh hearda Hungry!"

PortAndLemonaid · 18/12/2007 14:50

To be fair, the child who has not only heard of Hungary, but can also spell it and knows that Budapest is its capital is also a product of the US education system.

UnquietDad · 18/12/2007 14:51

True... let's hear it for the kid!

EricScrooge · 18/12/2007 15:21

There is that Noel Edmonds one too.

At least instead of celebrating mediocrity, as seems to be the case in many TV programs, they are showing how clever some kids are and are giving them their fair dues.

Interesting to see the concepts "Noel Edmonds" and "not celebrating mediocrity" sharing sentence space...

Mincepiedermama · 18/12/2007 18:08

I bet they deliberately get a really thick woman who also happens to be very blonde because it's great entertainment and it makes us feel better.

I agree with Hatrick about the presenter. Very dated. Totally embarrassing.

DeePandcrisPandeven · 18/12/2007 19:30

Oh come on. The presenter was being deliberately smarmy and 'clever'......> he could have been worse..

UnquietDad · 18/12/2007 20:29

Don't worry, I don't expect she was a natural blonde.

frostythesnowmum · 18/12/2007 20:33

does anyone elses you tube stop and start when you watch this or is it just me?

NappiesGaloriouslyFestive · 18/12/2007 20:36

nit picking im syre, but the prsenter promounced it Hun-gry, 'like im hungry' ...

when in fact it is hun-gary.

i dont think hed ever heardof it either - was just reading the card.

TinyTimLivesinVictorianSqualor · 18/12/2007 20:36

I'd agree UQD, collar and cuffs certainly don't match there.

TinyTimLivesinVictorianSqualor · 18/12/2007 20:38

pukkapatch · 18/12/2007 20:45

her geography was awful
the man was soo sexist, its unbeliavable
ds wants to know why the kids wasnt wearing his school uniform.

EricScrooge · 19/12/2007 10:07

I do worry that the US program makers are deliberately trawling their applicants for these idiots to make good ratings and YouTube hits.

Do they realise the image they are portraying of themselves if this is true, and if it isn't then they should be weeding these saps out before they get onto the screen.

OP posts:
singleparentdad · 19/12/2007 14:22

Are you smarter that a ten year old? No, and you still win, how's that work?

That girl is either an actress or the makers of the show are indeed trawling trailers.

I know the researchers will look for a certain 'profile'. My friend was auditioned for Deal or No Deal, when asked what she'd do with the money she said, I'd reduce our mortagage as much as I could to free up resources to make life easier. That wasn't the answer they we're looking for, the correct answer was, I'd pay off my credit card and buy my Mother a new vacuum. Which incidently the next person said, and got on the show.

ruty · 19/12/2007 14:29

i was actually heartened that the child knew the answer. Was not expecting much...

ruty · 19/12/2007 14:30

the woman was a jade type - thick but playing it up. Doubt many UK kids would know where Budapest was actually.

MerryAnnSinglemas · 19/12/2007 14:33

that presenter was a twat too - pronouncing it as Hungry instead of Hungary

EggheadHilary · 19/12/2007 20:24

The contestant is Kellie Pickler who was on American Idol and is now I believe a successful "artist". Her Dad was a waster and her Mum was only a teenager when she had her, she gave her up to her grandmother when she was 2. (I was feeding my son and used to have dreadful tv on and realise that I had left the remote out of reach so it stayed on ITV2) [hangs head in shame]

Our British Education system also churns out many an unintelligent person and also some extrememly clever ones too. They just don't appear on TV however, Junior Mastermind is thankfully showing the ones who are applying themselves.

edam · 19/12/2007 20:31

She may have been a thickie when it comes to geography but she had a good reply to the host's first sexist comment.

And the audience were laughing at her more stupid remarks, so presumably quite a few of them knew that Europe isn't a country, and that France is a country...

Desiderata · 19/12/2007 20:33

Kerry Pickler, I believe.

I think she's delightfully thick.
