Man Talk - Mileage

DaddyCool · 17/05/2007 13:28

ok, so with all this travelling about and jetting back and forth over the pond the last 1.5 years, i've had to sell 3 cars and buy another 3.

The whole mileage thing is weird. I'm a nerd so I calculate my mileage when I get another car. Here's the results:

1.8 ltr Renault Scenic - 30 mpg
1.6 ltr Hyundai Lantra Estate - 32 mpg
3.4 ltr Pontiac Montana - 28 mpg!

It seems that it just doesn't matter what you buy, unless you've got a tiny bubble car or a huge pick up truck, it just doesn't matter what you buy in engine size for anything in between.

These are all tip top cars btw. I'm very picky and calculating when I buy a car and make sure I'll get a good price on re-sale.

Screw it. When I get back to the UK I'll just buy something that suits the family and worry about stupid engine size.

He meant a Screwdriver..

NotRhubarb · 17/05/2007 21:36

always thinking of sex - typical men

MrMariella · 17/05/2007 21:38

your point being??

or shouldn't I encourage her??

NotRhubarb · 17/05/2007 21:40

probably not!

MrMariella · 17/05/2007 21:43

Well ,in true blokey style, am being dragged to the pub..as likely as not to talk turkey about computers, cars, football, women with big norks, and cross-stiching. Laters.

NotRhubarb · 17/05/2007 21:45
Envy
jampot · 17/05/2007 21:46

3.9l Land Rover Discovery 11mpg

lou33 · 17/05/2007 21:46

i want to go to the pub and play a game of darts

jampot · 17/05/2007 21:48

but it is on lpg which cost wise equates to about 30mpg and only £190 pa road tax and congestion charge exempt

hub2dee · 17/05/2007 21:51

I would very much enjoy a game of darts with you Lou. I am vaguely crap though. I am quite good at eating crisps however. Lou: Are you looking forward to the pub smoking ban coming in July ? I am getting quite excited at the thought of walking into ANY restaurant and not thinking how crap their air recirculation system must be that all I can smell is food and fags lol.

MrsSpoon · 17/05/2007 21:52

Ah HappyDaddy you will like the BMW, it will be just up your street, they've (well any that we have had anyway) got a little MPG gauge on the dashboard, you'll be in heaven.

DH was looking at a 3.2 litre Mercedes at the weekend that had an LPG conversion, think of all the fun you could have with that working out the fuel consumption and £££ saved through buying LPG rather than petrol.

HappyDaddy · 17/05/2007 21:54

I think DC was after the BMW, I'm not a fan myself.

lou33 · 17/05/2007 21:55

i used to be brilliant at playiong darts, until i had kids, but i started playing it while drunk at weekends with my recently ex bf

i'm not entirely sure how the no smoking ban is going to bother me tbh, seeing as i have a self imposed ban on myself going to my local now, on account of the landlord being a tosser

i rarely go out anywhere now, i did last firday and it wasn't that much fun

i think i lost my mojo when i hit 40

MrsSpoon · 17/05/2007 21:55

Sorry, I meant DaddyCool, I get all you Daddy blokes muddled up.

hub2dee · 17/05/2007 22:00

I caught the tailwind of your breakup Lou. Life sucks eh.

HD - I was ALL set to buy an old skool E30 series BMW - they're the small estates that designy types love lol. FAB cars... in the end I decided against as they were all pre-airbag era and I felt that a more modern car might be more suitable.

Cheese and onion OK for everyone ? HD I presume you're on Wotsits or Prawn Cocktail Skips ?

lou33 · 17/05/2007 22:05

it sure does!

but i do have a new car , i got it last thurs a renault grand scenic 2.0l dynamique 7 seater in black and i love her

i think it does about 30 to the gallon

hub2dee · 17/05/2007 22:10

She sounds sllllllllllllllick !

Enjoy !

lou33 · 17/05/2007 22:11

oh,if you insist!

BigGitDad · 18/05/2007 11:43

Lou, why don't you get yourself a dartboard, keep the sharp objects away from the kids and practice every evening. It will not be long before you will be up against Phil 'The Power' Taylor live on Sky sports necking dowm pints of lager with a beer gut to match the best of them?
Just a thought..

DaddyCool · 18/05/2007 13:16

the grand scenic 7 seater bad boy is really good car. I like those ultra-thin seats that fold out the back.

Happydaddy - Sorry a slim jim is a thin strip of metal you use to poke down the side of the window to dislodge the lock (probably only works on older cars tbh).

  1. HD - You slim jim the door
  2. BigGit - you watch for lights and if they come on, create a distraction.
  3. MrMariella - Nick his garden furniture and throw them in the boot.
  4. I'll piss in his letterbox to make it look like kids did it.

We'll take turns with it while Hub is getting aquainted with the Ford product. I have dibs on weekends.
