I don't think we have a thread yet. The Giro starts on 7th May. Let's discuss.

I am super excited because Movistar may be letting Carlos Betancur start. AKA as Baby Bunny.

Well done on the team selection Pan

That was in one way unexpected but somehow increasingly inevitable.
Glad for Rein Taramae, I know it's Katusha but I have a soft spot for him and he looked so happy.

DramaAlpaca · 28/05/2016 19:43

Well that was a dramatic couple of days.

I have a soft spot for Taaramae too, glad he won the stage.

Update on Stig Broeckx

I was out all day with younger DS's, got home waaaaay to late to watch it so we watched on X30 speed catch-up. I called it perfectly, knew when he'd go and that my new eldest son wouldn't have the legs to follow. Poor DS minus1, still it was a great ride from Nibali, he hit his form at exactly the right time.

The news from Belgium is just awful. Watching Nibali climb at one point he had at least 4 motorbikes around him, looked scary for him and a bit dangerous too, they weren't forgiving roads.

Chapeau for your online team Pan.

OnYerBikePan · 29/05/2016 09:03

So the shark bites at just the right time. Well done him....but seeing Vino grinning at the end was just a bit too much! Yes there was always that sinking feeling that DS minus 1 was going to get done after he failed to keep the wheel a couple of days ago.

Motos, FFS. Best of thoughts to Stig and his loved ones.

STOP PRESS from UCI HQ - all riders should go to TURIN. I repeat, TURIN. Not Milan. Ignore that useless obs. from a Team Directeur last night. Blush

OnYerBikePan · 29/05/2016 11:52

In other news, those geeky types from velogames also have a Tour de Romandie set up.
If you follow www.velogames.com/giro-ditalia/2016/ which I copy n pasted from justine's link from way above then you can register for Romandie, I think. For peloton people who missed the Giro one. Bike
Register and watch yourself turn from a mild-mannered, easy-going, affable individual, to a wild-eyed slightly less malignant form of Shane Sutton. Blush

OnYerBikePan · 29/05/2016 11:56

or Tour de France, even...

OnYerBikePan · 29/05/2016 18:34

Drama enough to satisfy any alpca! Bike. Controversy.

FelicityLemon · 29/05/2016 18:59

Excitement and upset to the very last. We must now welcome our German sprinting overlords. Grin
I am going to try out velogames for the TdF and channel my inner Hannibal Lecter.

OnYerBikePan · 30/05/2016 10:30

What do we think of the demotion to 12th? Did he ride dangerously? imo it wasn;t really clear cut enough to demote him, unless the race judges had video we didn't see. he was still a bike length down and wasn't going to take Nizzolo.

Felicity - prepare yourself for your inner battle! WheelofPan ended at 198 of 14467 entries. Cool, but it's changed my personality for ever! Grin

Overall though, was it a quiet Giro? No great controversy (other than above), no doping called during the race (good), no personality clashes, Brambilla kept his handbag to himself, no bike innovations, course re-directions, no dogs on the road. But cappello to His Nibbles. Bike

MrSlant · 30/05/2016 16:04

I can't find the T d'F yet on the velogames site, I want to play but am scared of showing my ignorance Grin maybe I'll let DS1 choose then take all the credit if we do well.

I'm not sure about Nizzolo, he did kind of cut in front of the other rider but it wasn't a deliberate block, looked more like a result of the effort he was putting in. I really feel for him, poor lovely man.

I loved the OGE behind the scenes video for stage 20, what a fantastic team, was a bit annoyed to see some woman trying to pretend DS-1 was hers though.

DramaAlpaca · 30/05/2016 21:25

Drama enough to satisfy any alpca!

Grin Grin Grin

Chapeau for your online team Pan.

I'm missing the Giro already.

MrSlant · 30/05/2016 21:54

I know! I sat down this afternoon for a break and grabbed the remote (not something I do outside of long bike races), I was gutted when I remembered it was over. DS1 very happily reminded me that the Tour starts just as he finishes his GCSE's so happiness reigns for him.

OnYerBikePan · 31/05/2016 00:09

Well there is the Dauphine coming up on 5th June, which will have lots of Tour contenders as we know.

GCSEs - dd has these ending on 24th June. She will be much more interested in London Fashion Week, or some such around that time. Soooo disappointed. Grin

MrSlant · 31/05/2016 08:23

Hey, I've been indoctrinating since birth and still only managed 1 out of 3, it's a tough business. I've got to say if one of mine was interested in fashion week I would be cluless Grin

Will watch the Dauphine with my notebook ready to start my proto-team then.

DramaAlpaca · 31/05/2016 09:44

None of mine have any interest. DS1 enjoys cycling for fun & also cycles to work, but they all roll their eyes when they see me & DH watching cycling on the TV again. They do understand how racing works, though, so they have obviously absorbed it all by osmosis Grin

in solidarity with those of you with offspring doing exams. DS3 is doing his Leaving Certificate (A level equivalent) starting next week. I swear I'm more stressed than him. You'd think I'd be used to it as I've been through it twice before, but no.

I would be as clueless as you if one of mine showed an interest in fashion week MrS!

MrSlant · 31/05/2016 10:48

I'm having so much fun with him, he is hitting the training HARD as soon as he finishes his exams, signed up for a 120k sportive at the end of August and he wants to NAIL it. Ah the fun we are having with power to weight ratios and cadence and kit and everything. I keep having to remind myself that even though they aren't into cycling the other two still have merit too Grin.

Probably time to go and shout 'are you doing your maths then' up the stairs for the 1,000 time this half term...
