Ok, all music snobs. What albums do you feel yuo really should be familiar with but aren't (and are slightly ashamed about it?)

I've gone through the CD collection, spurned Flweetwood Mac and Norah Jones and am going to finally get to grips with music bore essentials.

Thus, have Troutmask Replica (Captain Beefheart) Songs in the key of life (Stevie Wonder)and something grim and industrial by Joy Division out ready to play.

Gawd help me.

Dee,maybe I am trying to convince myself.

My kids enjoyed the full length version of Voodoo Chile this afternoon. Neither have we ever done kiddy music.

moondog · 25/04/2008 09:37

Walnutshell · 25/04/2008 09:39

do any of you really cool one-eyebrow-raised kestrel drinkers listen to the radio? if so, what station?

southeastastra · 25/04/2008 09:40

how about mott the hoople he has loads of their cds too.

TillyScoutsmum · 25/04/2008 09:41

White Album - The Beatles - keep meaning to download it and haven't got round to it.

Would I be a complete heathen if I said I thought the Beatles were a tad overrated ? Or did you just "have to be there" ?

SorenLorensen · 25/04/2008 09:43

Dh is really into Joy Division, New Order, Bowie, Japan, David Sylvian...none of it really does it for me (and, believe me, I've listened to enough).

KerryMum, where on earth would Ian Curtis have got a block of ice from?

LazyLinePainterJane · 25/04/2008 09:44

I totally agree about PJ Harvey....I keep trying, I feel like I should but it just isn't working for me.

moondog · 25/04/2008 09:45

Mott??
FFS SEA,get with it girl!

Till, that is a heinous slur. I would begin with Sgt. Peppers, Let it Be and Abbey Rd. though.

Walnut, Radio 2 and Welsh lang. radio.

I am still laughing my arse off at comment by one of the Dads about people who think they have musical taste because they buy cds by 'ballsy' women singers championed by Radio 2.

OP posts:
moondog · 25/04/2008 09:46

Yes, good point about the block of ice.
In Manchester in 1979.
Right.

SorenLorensen · 25/04/2008 09:50

Macclesfield - even less likely (I know, I live here and I'd still be hard pushed to find a block of ice )

TillyScoutsmum · 25/04/2008 09:51

I thought it might be

DaDaDa · 25/04/2008 09:52

Yep, White Album and Abbey Road for me too. The Beatles started to lose it after Revolver.

Never got into Led Zep. Moondog, if 'Born To Run' doesn't get you when it kicks back in after the breakdown you need to check your pulse.

southeastastra · 25/04/2008 09:52

i quite like planet rock but it's closing down soon. also radio 2 is good

DaDaDa · 25/04/2008 09:59

"Macclesfield - even less likely (I know, I live here and I'd still be hard pushed to find a block of ice)"

Maybe he made a tower of little cubes from the ice tray... [wanders off humming 'Ice Age']

TsarChasm · 25/04/2008 10:05

I love Captain Beefheart but I accept it's probably not something you'd put on when your friends come round for a meal

Coldplay and James Blunt - I start to get nauseous when I hear those whingy voices but everyone else seems to like them.

Also Paul McCartney after the Beatles. Musical treason to say you're not impressed.
