Hamilton

I need to gush...

Waited 5 years to see Hamilton. Just couldn't get tickets, too expensive, then COVID.

FINALLY got to see it last weekend. I cannot stop thinking about how brilliant it was. I'd listened to the soundtrack & knew it inside out but to see it live just blew me away (!)

On paper, it's just not my thing. Rap? Nah. US history? God, no. But, man alive...the reality; it's just unbelievably clever and well-crafted.

I just want to find Lin Manuel Miranda and shower him with my undying love and adoration. How can one person be so bloody clever?!!

Gush over. Thanks!!

What can I obsess over next?

Obsess over Book of Mormon next. “Hello”

Obsess over Book of Mormon next. “Hello”

My name is Elder Price

byvirtue · 10/02/2022 20:52

Book of Mormon was much better than Hamilton!

FusionChefGeoff · 10/02/2022 20:54

Encanto?!

cheekychaplin · 10/02/2022 20:55

I have seen it several times and I enjoy it more each time!! I first went with DD as she was desperate to see it. Thought 'this is going to be shit, but DD wants to go, so we will go' - I walked out of that theatre texting DH about how I had to see it again!!

HasaDigaEebowai · 10/02/2022 20:58

Encanto?!

I don’t get the fuss about encanto. I mean it’s perfectly nice Disney movie but it’s not one of the greats

pinkhousesarebest · 10/02/2022 20:58

I want to bring dd for her 18th. Don’t live in the UK. Which sort of ticket is best and where did you buy them? No idea where to start liking.

scotspancake86 · 10/02/2022 21:01

Glad you loved it. I totally agree with you! Hamilton is absolutely amazing. I got into it a few years ago and still listen to it on repeat. Like you, I'm not into US history, but there something so bloody brilliant about it. Lin Manual is an actual genius! I'll be watching to see if there are any other suggestions of good musicals to listen to. Smile

thefemaleJoshLyman · 10/02/2022 21:02

It is amazing, I still vividly remember the buzz coming out of the theatre.

MinglingFlamingo · 10/02/2022 21:02

Seeing Hamilton in two weeks can't flipping wait! What was the mask / covid situation?

minipie · 10/02/2022 21:04

I watched it on Disney+ and I thought it was brilliant. But best watched with subtitles to appreciate the cleverness of the lyrics. It’s Shakespearian.

theluckiest · 10/02/2022 21:26

@MinglingFlamingo it was pretty normal. Some people in masks, some not.

@minipie It IS!!! So much depth. Every time I listen, I find something new. It's incredible.

OK. I'll try Book of Mormon. I've heard it's really offensive. Sounds wonderful!!!!

I always buy mine on the theatres own website- you can choose your seats.

DrPhilYourGuts · 10/02/2022 21:35

I didn’t have high expectations as thought it would be overhyped but absolutely loved it. At the interval I realised I hadn’t even sipped my drink, I’d been so engrossed.

Rated Book of Mormon, and also Six, both quite different but highly recommend.

lucillelarusso · 10/02/2022 21:36

It is brilliant isn't it? I recommend Book of Mormon too, and Wicked which I didn't think I'd like and we all LOVED!

AuntieMarys · 10/02/2022 21:37

Seen it 4 times, including on Broadway. Going again next month. Bloody love it

DSGR · 10/02/2022 21:37

Loved Hamilton!!

Haus1234 · 10/02/2022 21:39

Hamilton is amazing. I am also loving the songs from Six at the moment - very different but has the “modernised history” element.

mynameiscalypso · 10/02/2022 21:39

Book of Mormon is fine. It's no Hamilton. It's very different and nowhere near as clever but Six is the closest thing I've found.

Winecheesesleep · 10/02/2022 21:40

We're seeing it in May for my birthday and I'm so excited! We were supposed to go in April 2020 but obviously that didn't happen...

Since then I've watched it on Disney+ and listened to the soundtrack an embarrassing number of times. I love it! I'm actually quite glad I'll see it after getting to know it so well, I think I'll enjoy it more.

Wazzzzzuuuuuuup · 10/02/2022 21:41

I love it. I bought the book Hamilton The Revolution and absolutely loved all the stories, and really reading all the lyrics with Lin's annotations

swampytiggaa · 10/02/2022 21:43

I loved Hamilton. Sat in the interval trying to get tickets for the evening performance 😂😂

Absolutely adore Six. Soundtrack is excellent but the show is so much better. Seen it 4 times so far… managed twice in one week in October 😂😂 saw it in London shortly before lockdown and quite honestly the memories of it really helped me through 2020

I booked on the Delfont Mackintosh website but used this site to help choose my seats:

Book of Mormon is hilarious (though not in Hamilton's league in my opinion). But its not so offensive to Mormons, that the Mormon church objected. The Mormon church view the extra publicity from it as more important than the (gentle) mocking of their faith. As far as that church is concerned it doesn't cross the offensive line.

Both are brilliant. But Hamilton is far cleverer and charismatic.
