Yep. Dh is more of a fan really. He lived near us.

DINOsaurmummykissingsantaclaus · 21/12/2007 14:20

God, is it really that long! Loved the Clash. Have "Complete Control" on my iPod, might listen to it on way home in memory of the late great.

MerryAnnSinglemas · 21/12/2007 14:23

I thought I might run through my Clash and Mescaleros tracks on iTunes as a tribute !

got ipod for xmas (exciting) and have just been going through ds's itunes adding stuff to mine. Have put on 4 clash albums to be nostalgic over! (nb my cds originally, replacing long lost LPs, and got ds into them when he was about 11)

MaryAnnSingleton · 30/12/2007 17:07

awww !

MaryAnnSingleton · 30/12/2007 17:08

ds got iPod too but not put any Clash on - he loves electronica

southeastastra · 30/12/2007 17:10

ooh love the clash, did you see the hammersmith palais programme the other night. such a shame it's being demolished.

indiemummy · 30/12/2007 17:18

Yes I saw the programme about the Palais, I can't believe it's shut - being turned into flats, is it? It was a good programme.

RIP Joe Strummer. (We named our ds Joe in tribute, huge fans in this house!) We live near the westway in Shepherds Bush so real Clash territory. I am glad there are others on mumsnet who remember!

Someone bought me the biography 'redemption song' by chris salewicz for christmas actually, i started it last night but I didn't realise it was 5 years already.

southeastastra · 30/12/2007 17:21

it's crazy they should just leave it alone, my mum and dad met there in the 50s.

mick jones looks like one of my uncles now. he still makes good music though.

MaryAnnSingleton · 30/12/2007 17:23

Yes,watched the Palais programme too - I saw Toots & the Maytals there - think I only saw the Clash at the Rainbow in Finsbury Park..
I got Redemption Song last year - huge tome - the author does go on about what a pal of Joe's he was, which is slightly irritating, but a good read.

MaryAnnSingleton · 30/12/2007 17:23

southeastastra - have you heard Carbon Silicon,Mick's new combo ?

anorak · 30/12/2007 17:24

5 years already! It always amazes me when I hear his voice on the radio, I can hardly believe he's dead, he sounds so full of life...

southeastastra · 30/12/2007 17:25

yes maryann, have the album, really love mick jones and all BAD stuff.

MaryAnnSingleton · 30/12/2007 17:26

I was just about to play Magic Suitcase on iTunes...

southeastastra · 30/12/2007 17:31

it's a good album, shame it doesn't get much airplay (apart from on radiolondon!).

indiemummy · 30/12/2007 17:31

I was going to check out Carbon/Silicon, are they any good? Will listen on itunes later!

indiemummy · 30/12/2007 17:32

by the way i always listen to robert elms! well not always - but often! i love him, is that bad?

MaryAnnSingleton · 30/12/2007 17:33

yes - similar to BAD I think...give it a listen ! Southeastastra, do you listen to Robert Elms on Radio London then ?

southeastastra · 30/12/2007 17:34

yes i listen to radiolondon all the time, more or less, even when it was glr.

i had to buy a digital radio so i could hear norman jay's show, as they've switched it to digital only.

MaryAnnSingleton · 30/12/2007 17:34

I usually listen to him - he alerted me to Richard Hawley and Jenny Lewis

MaryAnnSingleton · 30/12/2007 17:35

Was that the reggae one on Saturday evenings ? We have bad receptionm out here in Hampshire but I listen as I'm a West London girl !

indiemummy · 30/12/2007 17:36

Richard Hawley I love. Who's Jenny Lewis? I clearly haven't been listening hard enough! Those dratted kids demanding attention!

southeastastra · 30/12/2007 17:36

norman is on sunday evenings. (6-8) it's good that you can at least listen online.
