Well, what can I say, fantastic, fantastic, fantastic!!!!!!!!
He certainly lived up to his promise to put on a hell of a show! Lee was a brilliant performer, great voice, acting, dancing, the works.
The evening almost ended up in disaster before it had even begun. After getting back from DS1's karate class, I had precisely 10 minutes to get ready and hand over the boys to my mum before heading off for the station. Halfway to the station I think tickets!!!. I'd only gone and left them at home . So I run back, grab the tickets and sprint to the station, catching the train by the skin of my teeth (my dream was an omen after all ). Then at the other end I have to charge through the rush hour crowds like a demon and make it with five minutes to spare.
DP and I get a large glass of white wine in plastic cups and settle into our tiny seats, looking at an empty stage with just a wooden chair in it. I'm seated next to a fat bloke whose bum spills under the armrest and takes half my seat as well (and he had stinky feet but I tried to ignore that). Then minutes later His Leeness appears, looking as fantastic as ever, singing Any Dream Will Do. His voice was superb throughout the whole show, apart from one very loud, very long bum note which made me cringe .
The show was just amazing, all the cast put in excellent performances, including the understudy who was playing the part of the narrator tonight. I'd never seen Joseph before so didn't know what to expect. There wasnt really that much of a story but it was so colourful and energetic. I loved the Elvis Pharoah bits and all the little jokes they snuck in.
Then before I knew it it was winding up, with a big dance routine at the end and Lee in his gold breast plate singing Close Every Door for a second time. Then he stands on some sort of lift thing and is raised in the air to exactly my eye level and I could swear he was smiling at me (ok, wishful thinking I know, but it was still a special moment).
At the end everyone hot-foots it out the door and there's a big crowd waiting behind velvet ropes just outside the main doors, so I loiter as long as I can then head outside, where I have to stand at the front. Then Lee comes out to sign autographs and the man himself hands me a signed photograph and smiles at me . I was literally less than an arm's length away from him and I told him how good I thought he was and he smiles again very briefly while handing out more signed photos and signing people's programmes. then he waves to the adoring crowd and disappears back inside and it's all over.
Then I start wishing I could go again and, wait, hang on, I'm going again on Monday . This time I'll buy a programme and get him to sign it.
Then DP takes me for a birthday drink at the American Bar in the Savoy Hotel across the road and we head home.
And that's it. A fantastic birthday treat and I can't wait till Monday.
G'night all.

oggsfrog · 19/09/2007 12:34

Hello...............

Heelloo...............

Hell........... ............ Ooooooo................

Berrie · 19/09/2007 12:44

Oh I know Oggs...it's been very quiet around here with you being ill and Lyra at the gym every morning

Am feeling a little jealous of Boing and Binkle's swoon moment. It's the most excited I've been in longer than I want to think about!

BoingBoing · 19/09/2007 13:16

"crucial part of my anatomy" - I love it!!!!

binkleandflip · 19/09/2007 17:21

thanks oggs, I will station myself by letterbox in porch (or vestibule if were being posh) and be sure to get to it before the dog does

lol about confiscating my purse, credit cards are wonderful things - until you have to pay them off of course - then they are the work of the devil

Berrie · 19/09/2007 19:08

Oh God oh God anyone want to hear about my terrible morning...ing...ing....ing? (Berrie's wail echoes into the dark...)
No? Well I'll tell you anyway
I usually get my shopping delivered not least because the trolley sets my back off but I'd been busy this week with FIL coming out of hospital so I thought I'd go while ds was at pre school (trolley would be lighter)
Anyway, I did a monstrous shop and my back was beginning to go into spasm. I went through the checkout and my card wasn't accepted. I couldn't believe we'd gone over £1000 overdraft limit and told the woman I'd go to the cashpoint. She just looked at me disbelievingly and sort of pushed me out of the way to grab the trolley as she must have thought I was going to do a runner whereas I was just trying to pull over to get DD out of the trolley. It really upset me. At the cashpoint I found out we really had gone over the limit but I had only 40 minutes to get to the bank, back to Tesco and then to pick up DS (remember I'd already been late the other week) I raced to the bank, couldn't find any money for the pay and display so had to put a whole pound in instead of 40p which didn't piss me off as much as an old lady then telling me they were trialling free parking (I'd been too rushed to read the notice)
I rushed to the bank holding dd horizontally with people peering at me as if she was injured and I was rushing for help. Unfortunatly all our savings are in dh's name but there was one with just enough money in which she transfered over for me until I realised that that woudn't work as too much over limit on overdraft so she then let me draw it out instead...swoosh (translation - phew) I'm wondering how much they will charge me for going over the limit as we've never done it before...
It was soooooo embarrassing. DH laughed when I told him which didn't go down well
Back to online shopping for me.

LyraBelacqua · 19/09/2007 21:34

Oh Berrie, that sounds awful. There's nothing worse than being in a massive rush when you've got children with you/to pick up. Everything seems to go wrong just to make things harder.
Is FIL out of hospital now then?
Oggs, great news about the Rear of the Year. I did see a press release yesterday saying they were gojng to announce the winner today and I did wonder if Lee had got it.
I did go to the gym this morning, well actually to a Body Pump class which a friend persuaded me to go to. I was sorely tempted when two other friends asked if I'd like to go for a coffee. I said no coffee for me, I'm off for a workout. I did ok but it was hard work when you haven't really exercised in years. Now I just need to get some trendy gym gear which covers my big ass.

binkleandflip · 19/09/2007 21:40

Have asked for trendy gym wear for my bday next week... am gym bunny now - three times a week with my trainer - am starting to firm up but I feel its going to be a very long and drawn-out process - an awful lot of damage to be undone unfortunately..

I told dd she was going to see Craig and Keith etc in Joseph - she's really excited - then I asked if she'd like to go to London again, this time to see Lewis - she turned me down flat

binkleandflip · 19/09/2007 21:45

....which means dh will probably be made by me to see it again as I've got two tickets - he will be pleased

Berrie · 20/09/2007 07:34

Good for you Lyra and Binkle! (Grrrr) You are so inspiring! (Grrrr)
Yes FIL has been let out. I can't see it lasting really. I think the infection will flare up again if he doesn't have a fall first. Either way he is as miserable as sin and doesn't seem at all pleased to be home.
Right, ds has to have his gorgeous locks cut off this morning. Dh has let it go for all this time but he really doesn't like it when people think he is a girl. I'll let you know how short me and the hairdresser's compromise is!

BoingBoing · 20/09/2007 09:13

DON'T DO IT BERRIE! I'm starting a campaign - Save DS's Lovely Locks!

And I'm sorry about your crappy morning yesterday, but glad it was sorted out.

Oggs, should I be getting excited in anticipation of my post when I get home, or would that be too optimistic?

damewashalot · 20/09/2007 09:27

Went yesterday!!!!!!

Loved it

Will post later with requested details when have a bit more time.

BoingBoing · 20/09/2007 09:28

Just tell me Damewashalot, was 'Rear of the Year' a well-deserved award?

oggsfrog · 20/09/2007 10:39

Boing, sadly, I do not think the Royal Mail have access to a time travelling machine

I posted it yesterday, but being so rural we only have one collection a day. The Post Office is by dd's school which is 10 miles away, so I posted them when I went to collect dd from school - it will actually go with today's collection at 1pm.
I've sent it 1st class so hopefiully you and Binkle should recieve them tomorrow .

Listened to my Leefest on way home from school run - "Close Every Door" with Lee, Lewis and Keith. Cor, Lee's deep voice when he sings the final few lines starting with Close Every Door gave me goosebumps.
We need to start a petition to make sure that they do a cast recording so that I can bin my poxy JD (boo hiss) cd and replace it with Lee's dulcet tones

oggsfrog · 20/09/2007 11:03

From the BBc News website -

"This year's male title went to the winner of the BBC's Any Dream Will Do talent search Lee Mead.

He said: "It's such an important cause and although I feel a bit overwhelmed, it's great to raise awareness.

"I keep my bum in shape by plenty of gym visits - and, of course, doing eight performances of Joseph a night."

He's doing another 7 'after hours' performances every night?? Do you reckon these are adult versions to be giving his bum such a good workout? How do we get tickets???

BoingBoing · 20/09/2007 11:27

Evening Standard website has the article, but only have a picture of the distinctly non-eye candy Welsh weather reading bint (who won the girls' one). Honestly! Lyra, have a word with your media chums - obviously the ES has NO IDEA what constitutes the elements of a good story

And cheers Oggs - I'll curb my excitement until tomorrow at the earliest.......

oggsfrog · 20/09/2007 11:38

The only pic I could find of the Rears of the Year [disappointed emoticon]
Lee is on the left by the way

oggsfrog · 20/09/2007 11:39

Ah, bless. He's missed one of the loops out on his belt [mothering emoticon]

BoingBoing · 20/09/2007 11:41

I don't know what's on that web page Oggs, but my company's just filtered it under their 'acceptable use policy' hehehe. I'll just have to wait until I get home.

oggsfrog · 20/09/2007 11:44

Berrie, sorry you had a crap time of it yesterday .
Can't get the image out of my head of you charging the bank wearing thigh boots, a patch and a bandana, using dd as a battering ram, and waving your sword around.....swoosh....swoosh.......

oggsfrog · 20/09/2007 11:53

Don't worry Boing you're not missing anything much. Just two jean clad bums .
The site it came from is not very complementary about the whole thing though - anti-celeb etc.

damewashalot · 20/09/2007 12:52

So, what do you want to know?

Was very excited then suddenly got worried in case it wasn't Lee or I had built it up so much that I would be disappointed Didn't need to worry, it was Lee and it was even better than I had hoped.

Narrator was Fiona Reyes who was excellent as were the whole cast. I had been looking forward to seeing Lee having seen him on TV and hadn't given much thought to the rest of them so to find that they were all so very good just added to the whole experience.

You could tell that they were all having a really great time too which was good, Lee kept grinning bless him, he's such a sweety.

The seats were great as although in top circle they were front row and very near middle so had uninterrupted view of whole stage and when Lee first arrived on stage (to huge amount of applause and cheering) he was directly in front of me and when he went up in the air at the end was eye level

The atmosphere was great, my hands hurt from clapping by the end of the megamix. Lee is even better in the flesh than he was on tv and Close every door gave me goosebumps, he sings it so well, was really pleased he sang it again at the end.

The guy playing pharaoh was great as well and Judah used to be on nick jr!

Would happily go again no question.

Think I've waffled enough except to say yes he has a nice bum but....... the knee high socks and sparkly shoes really didn't do it for me

Berrie · 20/09/2007 13:12

Thigh high boots, chortle

BoingBoing · 20/09/2007 13:13
