Today is the 21st birthday

I have just come home from the special birthday performance at Queens Theatre, London

It had the cast of 1985 as well as the 2006

Which included Colm Wilkinson and Michael Ball and they all sang

It was really DEFFO BRILL

It was being filmed so hopefully a DVD will be out soon

Anyway later on today on Radio 2 @ 1pm Elaine Page has a special show

And then @ 7pm on radio 2 there is a special concert version of the show, recorded a few weeks ago.

Elaine Page came on and sang "Midnight" and handed the coat to Cossette {little one} to signify the handing over of the crown of the longest run of a show ie 21 years.

The atmosphere in the theatre was amazing

It was really deffo brill

Kanga, are you buzzing after your exciting night, and now can't sleep?

RTKangaMummy · 08/10/2006 02:04

How did you guess?

DS has gone to sleep and DH and I should too

I have got a sore throat from singing and shouting/cheering so much.

Also saw Graham Norton and Jonathan Pryce there too and took some photos of them

Thanks for that. It's my favourite musical. I'm about to turn radio 2 on now. I'm glad I logged on now and not later. I'd have been miffed if I'd not seen this thread till later and I'd missed it.

RTKangaMummy · 08/10/2006 12:57

my kids love Les Mis, Infact we are due another trip.

Was Roger Allam there? He was the original Policeman - lost his name for the moment!

RTKangaMummy · 08/10/2006 13:48

Yes, he was as Javert at the end

And Peter Polycarpou {sp} and the 1985 Thenardiers

And Patti LuPone and Frances Ruffelle

My all time fav JAVERT is Philip Quast, from CD and DVD in RAH

I was disappointed with Hans Peter Janssens as Javert last night but the thing is no one can really compare with Philip. IMHO

It was our 6th visit last night

John Owen Jones as JV was amazing we have seen him several times before as JV

The show stopped when he sang "Bring Him Home" when everyone was cheering and clapping for soooooo long

Another highlight were the Thenardiers esp "Beggars at the Feast" when we were all clapping and singing along.

The atmosphere was sooooooooooooo deffo brill

DS was given some special birthday helium balloons at the end

I am so looking forward to the DVD coming out

OP posts:
beetroot · 08/10/2006 15:44

yes I would love tosee the DVD. Think I must take dc again

RTKangaMummy · 08/10/2006 19:07

It has just started on Radio 2

imho I would go when Jeff Nicholson is doing Javert - he is understudy and is really good

OP posts:
beetroot · 08/10/2006 19:13

my mate wenty as understudy to Michael Ball years ago as Marius!

RTKangaMummy · 08/10/2006 19:22

Deffo brill

did you see him be marius???

Jeff is factory foreman and Grantaire when he isn't Javert

As you will hear on the Radio 2 show the Hans Peter Janssens {Javert} imho has the wrong phrasing or something is wrong that I can't put my finger on.

Mind you I am completely besotted with Philip Quast soooooooo I am soooooo biased

beetroot · 08/10/2006 19:32

this bloke is not a tenor! He cannot reach the notes at all.

i saw my mate and Michael Ball do it.

beetroot · 08/10/2006 19:32

RTKangaMummy · 08/10/2006 19:33

OP posts:

So glad you had a great time RTK. Sounds like the best night ever!

RTKangaMummy · 08/10/2006 19:39

I know Jeff by association

in that the family that I used to childmind know him

And Robert Archibald who is Feuilly DS met when he did Les Miz kids club ages ago

We have been so many times and some of the cast have been there each time iyswim

But in answer to your question no we don't really know anyone

And I know Philip Quast in that we met him {after we saw him doing Peron in Evita} and DS chatted to him about acting and then we wrote to him and he wrote back again
