most of all Dog eat Dog French (didn't want to watch it but student flat mate persuaded me fortuately can't remember much of it.)

mummyofeb · 09/06/2006 20:53

Scarey or disturbing/sickening?

combination of both:

The Omen (not in a rush to see the new version!)

Sleepers or anything containing male/child sex abuse but I don't think I've seen others as I tend to know a bit about the film before hand. I clearly didn't read up on this one though!

Lolita (contemporary version)

The Accused

can't think of anymore atm

day of the jackel.. there is a scene in it that really upsets me.
what ever happened to baby jane (scares me)

Chandra · 09/06/2006 22:01

Oh yes, Eraserhead! I thought I may have had my diet coke spiked all the way through the movie.

The one I found most disturbing was City of God, but have to sat that whoever wrote it was a genious!.

cataloguequeen · 09/06/2006 22:07

Oh yes Chandra.. very disturbing worst part is it's a true story!!

JanH · 09/06/2006 22:13

Deliverance.
Oh, and the pod people one with Donald Sutherland.

I don't watch disturbing films if I can help it.

JanH · 09/06/2006 22:14

Oh, and Carrie, but mostly just the very end.

southeastastra · 09/06/2006 22:20

jacobs ladder is quite disturbing as well

thewomanwhothoughtshewasahat · 09/06/2006 22:20

Hotel Rwanda

sansouci · 09/06/2006 22:22

Seven & most recently, United 63.

nooka · 09/06/2006 22:32

I've got no interest in horror films, but I've watched a few things that remained with me for a while afterwards. Nil by Mouth because Kathy Burke and Ray Winston are fantastic. Pretty much anything by Sam Peckinpah, but in particular Straw Dogs (lots of self destruction). In terms of nasty scenes, The Firm (though I think that was for TV) where there is a terrible scene when the toddler plays with a Stanley knife.

Ellbell · 11/06/2006 22:59

Has no-one mentioned 'Don't look now'? Almost put me off Venice!

Cam · 12/06/2006 16:58

Bambi, when I was a little child, because his mummy died

The Red Shoes, when I was little, because she couldn't stop dancing and died of exhaustion

Pinocchio, when I was little, because of the donkey scene

The Sound of Music, when it came out in the 60's and I was little, because of the Nazi concept

The Greatest Story Ever Told, starring Max von Sydow, when I was little, because it brought home the story of Christ being crucified

Haven't found any films disturbing as an adult because I know they're only films

Kathy1972 · 12/06/2006 17:00

The Ring was scariest. The Passion of the Christ the most disturbing in the sense that it was disturbing to think that someone actually wanted to make a film like that and that millions of American Christians were loving it.

dubnobasswithmyheadman · 12/06/2006 17:05

Has anyone mentioned Monster ? I found that rape scen horrific and actaully burst into tears and asked dp to switch it off (mind you, was v preggers at the time)

mummyofeb · 12/06/2006 21:24

What's wrong with The Passion of Christ? It's just another portrayal of the last few days of Jesus' life like Frank Zefferelli's "Jesus of Nazareth".

Not preaching a sermon but I think you'll find that Christians were not "loving it" as such. Many churches used this as an opportunity to open up discussions about the gospel with non Christians. And let's face it how many of you have switched off when someone starts discussing the bible? At least people will have heard about the film.

GDG · 12/06/2006 21:26

Not read thread but most disturbing I've seen was 'Dead Mans Shoes' - really well done, but I found it very disturbing and sad

VeniVidiVickiQV · 12/06/2006 21:27

I HATE all horror films.....

MOST disturbing for me is CHILDSPLAY
then IT
Carrie
Nightmare on Elm Street
Halloween

gothicmama · 12/06/2006 21:40

last exit from Brooklyn
Blue Velvet
La Heine
C**man to scared to typein full
To live and let die (was young at the time)

GDG · 12/06/2006 21:41

Btw, Dead Mans Shoes is not scary - not a horror film - but it's disturbing because it's about 'abuse'.
