Will be brief, daughter due to be sent down. Any one have a clue what to pack? Do we pack a bag? I've looked on line and it's a bit vague . Any help greatly appreciated.

I'm so blooming pleased with Mumsnet today and how supportive this thread has been. It's like the old days and its lovely.

Op you have done brilliantly. I hope this gives her time away from the partner to get help and get her head together.

drinkswineoutofamug · 19/01/2017 18:06

Total crap, I'm so very sorry!!! The only way from here is up, so hopefully you can hold out hope for when she gets to the place where she sees only she can start that climb.

You are so very obviously a great mum; hold your head high. You'd be amazed how many of us have had to deal with this and worse, and got through it. Flowers

That's what I was saying earlier , there's always some one worse off than yourself.
I look after seriously ill people and sometimes think what these families are going through is worse than my shit.

My best friend did two years in a YOI (not Styal) and to be honest I think it was the making of her. She came out a different person. Got qualifications, etc while inside.

She said it was ok while she was there. There was a gym, education, a library, she helped with veg growing. Most of the other inmates were ok.

RacoonBandit · 19/01/2017 18:36

"Sorry if I'm not being clear my head is fucked up"

Have been following this thread, and am not at all surprised that you're getting a little mixed up. You must be so worried, fearful, and having to suppress your fears and get on with day to day life.

I would be frantic and am astounded by how strong you are being. Your daughter is so lucky to have a mum like you, Flowers, and one day she will know that.

Am thinking of you all.

UnbornMortificado · 19/01/2017 18:55

Drink you need to look after yourself as well.

DD2's dad did an 18 month stretch. The visits, phone calls and letter writing (in between giving birth) was exhausting.

Can only imagine it must be worse when it's your child. Please go easy you sound like a lovely mam.

drinkswineoutofamug · 19/01/2017 18:57

Thank you dish , got a stress head going on. I keep checking my phone has a ring tone as I've been told to expect a call off her. I've run out of fags but don't want to leave the house in case I miss her. I've just washed all of her clothes and sorted a pile that I may be able to take Sad
It's one huge fuck up.

Thinking of you drinks
My brother is currently serving time and the effect on my mum has been devastating.
Look after yourself, you are obviously a lovely, caring mum but you sound like you are at your wits end.
I was devastated about my brother but I can see that prison was what he needed to get his life back on track. Hope that will be the case for your daughter Flowers

ASqueakingInTheShrubbery · 19/01/2017 19:11

Try and have her call you on a landline, the money goes down SO fast on a mobile. DXP used to call me at the local phone box when he was away, although that's few years ago now.

CondensedMilkSarnies · 19/01/2017 19:16

Op re fags (ex smoker here ) could a mate go and get some for you ? It's not good to smoke but under the circs id be chain smoking. have sent a taxi to get some before when I couldn't get out

purplepandas · 19/01/2017 19:25

I just saw but wanted to agree with others who have said that you need to look after yourself too. So sorry that this is a tough situation for you all. You do sound like an amazing Mum, truly.

Natsku · 19/01/2017 19:35

Are you close enough to the prison to be able to visit regularly? If not, is there someone she knows that is closer that can visit when you can't? As I'm sure regular visits have a really good impact on how well prisoners do.

UnbornMortificado · 19/01/2017 19:41

Drinks on remand visits are usually two a week.

There is also a reception visit when they are first incarcerated where you can take clothes in.

Has she been in touch yet? They do have brilliant support available especially women's prisons.

Butterymuffin · 19/01/2017 19:50

Look after yourself OP. Sounds like it's all been very hard on you.

drinkswineoutofamug · 19/01/2017 19:52

She's not been in touch yet. I suppose it depends when court finished etc. The prison is about 30 mins drive from us so in that way we are lucky.
