8 teenagers in one car that crashed

Fromhere1 · 11/08/2026 18:49

So they were driving the wrong way on a motorway and crashed in to a single driver. At 5.30am. Apparently the car was stolen. I'm seeing photos on tiktok and they look to be very young.

Where the hell are the parents in this?! I'm seeing tiktoks where the families of these 8 boys are asking for prayers, etc. I wonder if they feel any shame at all?! Or is that an emotion they are unfamiliar with.

I think these parents need to be held accountable in some way... My sympathy lies entirely with the driver of the other car.

I'm getting the impression from some posts that the dead boys were Travellers? except maybe that one was Polish?

The one aspect of their identity that we can be sure of is that they were boys.

Traveller boys, inner city boys, rugby school boys, rural boys - the link between being male and breaking the law is obvious and it has to be addressed.

I know people are afraid to say that because, there's usually a barrage of 'not all men' and 'toxic masculinity is a slur on men' 'it's sexist against men' and so on, but the statistics speak for themselves:

  • 97% of sexual offences
  • 92% of robbery, extortion & hijacking offences,
  • 90% of burglary and related offences,
  • 84% of homicide offences,
  • 80% of attempts/threats to murder, assaults, harassment and related offences.
Majority of suspects in detected crimes last year were men, says CSO

If any other social group was so clearly responsible for almost all crime, you can be sure that there'd be an outcry.

It's time to confront the issue honestly, which means facing up to the truth that criminal and anti-social behaviour, overwhelmingly carried out by boys and men, is a blight on society.

And in this case a mortal danger on the motorway.

I’m from there and have family working in youth services . They have a lot of support for traveller kids , and some of them really want to stay in in school and break the mould and as soon s they get to 12- 13 they just lose the boys , the parents pull them out of school and they are lost to the system. Terrible auicide and mental health issues with the traveller families the kids have t got a hope .

I think many of the apologists on this thread are probably English with no real understanding of the continual mayhem that certain ‘vulnerable types’ inflict on ordinary folk living their lives here in Ireland.

Plus all the awful suffering they regularly inflict upon their poor animals. How often have you driven on a busy road and discovered two poor ponies being made to race through fast moving traffic? It’s despicable what they get away with.

Plenty of it happens in England too by the same "communities" that appear to be untouchable.

Mesk · 17/08/2026 21:35

The RIP page was up for one of them, but has been removed really quickly, it was inundated with messages of support for the ‘real victims’ and some quite nasty comments.

Interesting he was an active member of a boxing club, in light of the earlier comments on this thread about them not having any clubs etc. to keep them occupied.

Or maybe some of the apologists are Scottish or Welsh or Australian or American. Take your pick.

I truly hope the family they hit make a full recovery.
Wrong place wrong time for them.

As for the thugs in the stolen car? Play stupid games win stupid prizes.

Or, instead of degenerating and entire sex we look at the permissive society that allows minor misdemeanor to escalate.

There are apologist on this thread, that think more money or more youth clubs would solve the issue.

The UK is soft on punishment, 40 places in Ireland for young offenders - it is a joke that is replicated across the nation.

Deal with the small before it gets big

It is however an act which terrorises people, the poor family that were badly injured by the late, unlamented, morons must have been terrified seeing the car coming at them

I agree with that, it was the preposterous post I was quoting I didn't agree with.

ERthree · 17/08/2026 22:37

tommyhoundmum · 17/08/2026 12:14

I think they are all dead. A massive price to pay.

And being dead would have been a bigger price to pay for their victims. 5 less to cause mayhem and murder.

Fromhere1 · 17/08/2026 22:45

SummerDive · 17/08/2026 15:53

You are so naive @Fromhere1

You know what would help?
Have youth clubs
Reduce poverty
Give support to parents
Have activities accessible to those teens so Theyre not left hanging round in the streets
Support at school so they can see a future for themselves.

Not lectures. Not making them apologise. Not following any and every SM just in case.

I am not naive....as you'll have seen from plenty of the following posts.

I'm not sure you understand the type of teenagers these kids are? They would never go to a Youth Club or anything like it. I work in a Primary School and the Traveller children receive huge support...when they aren't absent. Which is a lot of the time.

Rip to all that died. We can't judge anyone. I remember teenage thrill seekers when I was a teenager. Your brain hasn't fully developed and you don't get it. It's reckless. They were only teenagers and obviously didn't intend on this happening. I feel sorry for all involved, especially those they crashed into.

BoundaryGirl3939 · 17/08/2026 23:21

And we're they definitely travellers? I've never seen Polish hanging around with travellers. Travellers stick to themselves.

Badbadbunny · 17/08/2026 19:39

I know a few travellers and the way the settled community treat them like pariahs is absolutely disgusting. It's no wonder they live life a little more by the seat of their pants than folks in other communities. Nobody respects them, nobody cares about them, nobody gives them anything.

R.I.P to those young lads.

ApologiseAndJustify · 17/08/2026 23:42

This is interesting from RTE in so many sad ways

No mention it was a stolen BMW. The poor sulkies pulling the buggies know the thugs didnt buy it or borrow it so it was stolen and RTE could drop the political correctness and just say it.

Not one member of the gardai is trained to pursue these thugs even tho its been going on for years. Why just why?

Apparently it isn't against the law to drive on the wrong side of a motorway to evade the gardai so we need new laws. Seriously. Michael Collins must wonder why he bothered.

Wrong-way drivers going to 'jail or grave', minister says

The Minister for Justice has warned those driving the wrong way down a motorway: "You'll end up in jail or you'll end up in a grave."

HelenaWilson · 17/08/2026 23:42

They were only teenagers and obviously didn't intend on this happening.

What did they think would happen if they drove the wrong way down a motorway, into oncoming traffic?

In fact they didn't have to think, they knew what would happen, because less than a week ago a group of boys, which may have included some of these same teenagers, did the same, and seriously injured the young man whose vehicle they smashed into.

I am sick to death of this 'brains not fully developed' narrative which excuses the most appalling behaviour and absolves young people (usually boys/men) of the need to take any responsibility for their actions.

And it's insulting to the majority of young people who do.manage to behave responsibly, regardless of the state of their brains.

Notrainingbutpouring · 17/08/2026 23:46

WildGarlicSoup · 11/08/2026 19:42

That’s the point, isn’t it? We don’t know! I doubt these kids informed their parents of it.

So what innocent explanation can you come up with?? I’m really curious what rationale you have that would deem this behaviour acceptable? Aren’t part of this group the same people who had been involved in a hit and run using a stolen car earlier this year? Weren’t they also involved in crime sprees? What is your defence for their behaviour?

Of course we can judge anyone, we all do it all the time be it subconsciously or consciously.

We have them in England too, though I suppose it's a far smaller proportion of the population. In one area of my county there would often be ponies and traps being driven on the roads - maybe still are, I haven't been there for a while.

Any attempt to discuss the issues here on MN gets shut down because it's racist.

You still see them in the NE.

These are children. Where is your humanity? We can have sympathy for them all.

Are you serious?? The drove the WRONG way down the Motorway with 8 of them in the car. FFS

Dontlletmedownbruce · 17/08/2026 23:51

When I read people defending dangerous teenage acts saying things like 'do you not remember being a teen' I honestly think these are the adult versions of the stupid teenagers that were around when I was a teen too and they sound just as stupid now. No, we didn't all engage in life threatening behaviour because we are too slow to process the consequences. We didnt all lack moral conscience until we were 25, we didnt all think theft or assault was funny. When people say these things, it might seem like an attempt at empathy towards young folk but it reflects badly in my opinion on the person saying it.

I read on some news site earlier today that no BMW was reported stolen so they are investigating the idea that it was purchased with cash by an 'associate' of one of the deceased. I don't know if that has changed since.

It wasn't this article that I read earlier but this one says not stolen but others say stolen so I don't know what the truth is.

They obviously didn't think they would all end up dead. Otherwise they wouldn't have done it. Who knows what went on (drink, drugs?). They were playing with fire but they were teenagers. One was 15.

Either way, I am not going to condemn anyone as it's not my place. It is sad all around.

Is there an innocent explanation for being in a stolen car, uninsured, driving, presumably, without a licence, on the wrong side of the road, with a dangerous number of passengers, and hitting a driver who had done nothing wrong, @WildGarlicSoup?

Indeed.

That's because you had a particular upbringing. Not everyone grew up like that.

Would you be so quick to have sympathy for them if the person in the other car was your relative?

They’re little arseholes and are most likely the product of “gentle” parenting.

You bet.
Fucking morons.
