Someone got it very wrong there.
Who let that go through? What were they thinking? Were there any women in the organising committee who thought it was acceptable? I can't imagine any woman thinking it was funny. I would have hated my children to watch that in the parade. Yuck!

honeyrider · 18/03/2026 23:34

There surely must have been spectators who have been the victims of rape and sexual abuse watching that, must have been triggering to see that.

Carriemac · 19/03/2026 17:48

Completely unacceptable and offensive

Apparently the organisers knew nothing about it. I wonder have those who participated in that particular float been spoken to by the guards?

Have those involved been named and shamed ?

That’s convenient

The same float also went in the parade in Headford and somewhere else so it took part in three parades.

I was told that those who took part in that entry were 14 and 15 years old.

Sidewindow · 20/03/2026 07:36

I hadn’t heard that.
All of them @honeyrider?

eggandonion · 24/03/2026 08:32

Natalie McNally...the young woman murdered in Northern Ireland had a lovely family. Her brother spoke lovingly about his sister and her little unborn baby. What a monster arrived in her life.
Violence against women is at a high level in the north...and the attack on Scarlett last weekend was horrendous.

Is everyone watching the match? The stress is unreal 😬 COYBIG

Hiding behind the cushion for large parts of it. The oldest is allowed to stay up to watch it so the excitement is unreal!

Give it a lash lads!

JaneJeffer · 26/03/2026 21:40

Damn! Extra time

JaneJeffer · 26/03/2026 22:41

🥲 hope Sammie Szmodics is ok. It didn’t look good at all.

deeahgwitch · 26/03/2026 23:05

Oh dear 🥲
Soo disappointing.
I hope Sammie Szmodics is ok too.

eggandonion · 26/03/2026 23:52

I always hope the kids will get the world cup experience. Mine had inflatable hats and things and sticker albums!
But they couldn't have done any more...they must be exhausted apart from disappointed. And fingers crossed for Sammie.

Was at a show so was catching up intermittently and listening to the penalty shootout driving home, gutting so devastated for the team and all the supporters loved listening to the interviews during the week from Troy Parrotts community, they deserved this. Penalties is a cruel way to go out. I preferred the play offs when there was a home and away leg.

Taytocrisps · 27/03/2026 13:27

I love the colour and excitement of the World Cup. It's a shame we won't be part of it this year. I don't think we've a good record when it comes to penalty shootouts. Well, except for the match against Romania in Italia 90.

JaneJeffer · 31/03/2026 22:21

Another penalty shootout for the Czechs

JaneJeffer · 31/03/2026 22:30

Wow! Well done Czechia.

Anyone else twitching with excitement and anticipation about the 1926 Census? It has been a long wait.

My first search will be to see is my father listed - he may just feature as a number in Temple Street of some other hospital.

deeahgwitch · 17/04/2026 13:53

Yes @DeanElderberryI checked yesterday online but it wasn’t available. It has to be 100 years.

DeanElderberry · 17/04/2026 14:13

And they had to write to everyone over 100 who is listed on it to check whether they were prepared to waive privacy.

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 18/04/2026 09:48

I've been looking up the 1926 Census. I've found my grandfather's first census entry, he's four years and seven months old. His mother had to raise him and his three siblings by herself as his father was an inmate in a hospital, a permanent resident. He never knew his father. I knew the story, but it's sad to see it in print.

I like how there's a bit more detail about places of work. In particular, the name of the jam factory where one of them worked.

Taytocrisps · 18/04/2026 10:56

I looked up my four grandparents, but there are a few possible candidates for three of them. I'll need to check with my Dad if he knows the year of birth.

My maternal grandmother went into service at the age of 12 or 13. At some point, she moved to Dublin. But I don't know if she was living in her home county in 1926, or if she had moved to Dublin at that point.

Also, I'm not sure if my grandmothers had married by 1926. So they might be listed under their maiden name or their married name.

deeahgwitch · 18/04/2026 11:43

Your great grandmother, like many a woman stepped up and reared her children alone @FuzzyCaoraDhubh
It must have been very difficult too, both financially and with the gossip that would have ensued following the hospitalisation of your great grandfather - “the valley of the squinting windows”
