Irish posters - "having a paddy"

Irish posters - can I canvas your opinions on the use of "having a paddy" to mean "having a tantrum"? I've been having a bit of back and forth (well, plenty of forth not much back in truth) with MNHQ over the past day or two and I want to check that I'm not going against the majority view here.

IMO, the phrase is awful, and plainly anti Irish. I know most people using it aren't doing so to slag Irish people off, but the phrase is still awful IMO.

I've been here a long time, and reported the phrase more than I can remember. Usually, it's just deleted right away. Raising it on a thread always derails it as people just go on the offensive.

I reported it yesterday and got the immediate email that it was being checked out, but the post stayed up for hours despite a follow up email, another post and a thread in Site Stuff. It was then edited rather than deleted, which I thought was the norm for offensive language. I reported another use this morning and it's still up.

What are your views? Is this a fight worth having with MNHQ or am I out of step with the majority of Irish posters on here?

Thanks :)

It's your behaviour that has been consistently disgusting.
You pop on, say a nasty one liner, then pop off.

Can you ever write anything nice?

As opposed to your nasty 3 liner.
Would you say that to someone in real life?
I get that text can come across more abruptly but that just took the very mumsnet Biscuit

What a surprise!

You're on Janejeffers side again.

I see you didn't respond to what that poster said.

You glossed over that nicely.

What's your thoughts on that poster thinking that you act like a pack, silencing people that disagree with you

Edited

I think a few posters agreeing with each other does not a pack make.

I think posters who share a nationality agreeing on topics directly related to that nationality isn't at all surprising.

I think I've never managed to silence anyone in my life, and if I was going to start it would be with my kids so I could have a moment's peace, not with MN posters.

Mostly though I don't care at all what one poster has said to you in a PM. I wasn't aware that was an accusation I particularly needed to defend myself against, but ho hum. Learn something new every day.

'As a collective group of Irish posters'

Correction : "some irish posters"

I'm not that fussed about "having a paddy "being used on mumsnet.

Ideally it would be good if they delete it when it's reported.

But I don't particularly care either way.

It's not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things.

OP said she has reported it multiple times over years. It seems like it's a big deal for her.

Edited

Correction to your correction: a collective group of Irish posters is perfectly correct. It describes the situation more accurately than your "some Irish posters".

I don't believe @Lallydallydune is posting in good faith. The thread was all but dead and then she resurrected it in style. I'm not "ganging up" on her with anyone else since we're not in the playground, but yes I disagree with her and agree with others. I don't think I've said anything particularly terrible to her either, but her comments have definitely been below the belt tonight.

I'm glad she has someone else for her pack though.

Maybe people shouldn't post antagonistic rude posts if they don't want to be questioned on them.
And that poster seems to attract the same type of response on other threads not just this one.
She swings wildly from agreeing with and complementing you one minute to goading the next. Very strange behaviour really.
Anyway card marked for me now, slán.

Personally, it doesn't bother me and it never has.

Oh no. It's a pack. I'm silenced. Save me.

I have read through this thread from the start again, as I really dislike the implication that I am ganging up on someone.
I have disagreed with several other posters - is that against the rules now? Just keep silent if someone says something you don't agree with? Would make for a very boring forum I think.

Mumsnet usp to me was always the robust discussions, it's challenging opinions, articulate women (not that I claim to be one of them!), the fact that swearing wasn't censored, we're all adults here after all.

The topic of this thread is obviously very emotive for a lot of posters hence there has been a lot of emotive replies and responses.

I often read threads after there has been a bit of a bunfight, and think why did people keep responding! Well now I know how easy it is to be goaded into it. Lesson learned.
