Just wondering (roughly!) the age profile of MN users on Craicnet... so, did you do the Inter Cert or Junior Cert? Or maybe neither... 🤔

I'll start, I did the Inter Cert - I think it was in 1988.

Junior cert 1998 but all of my aunties and uncles wished me good look in the inter cert!

Sheezus · 09/09/2024 14:27

I did the junior cert. I think we were the second year that sat the exams so we did it in 1993!

honeyrider · 09/09/2024 15:21

It was the group cert, then inter cert and then leaving cert in my day 1981/1982.

TaraMock · 09/09/2024 15:45

Thanks all 😁

I've looked it up and the first Junior Cert exams were 1992, so yes @Sheezus you guys were second year.

@honeyrider I'd forgotten about the Group Cert, what was the difference between that and the Inter Cert? I went to an all girls convent school and we didn't have it, but I think the boys school did.

The group cert was at the end of second year and it's purpose was to ensure early school leavers had a basic level of education as students could finish school on they were 15 back then. It was especially common for boys to leave once they were 15 especially in rural areas.

BocaChica · 09/09/2024 15:52

The Inter and The Leaving were going in the 60's

ÚlldemoShúl · 09/09/2024 15:56

I did the inter cert, in 1980 I think.

Thanks @honeyrider - that makes sense.
My dad did his Group Cert, but my mam never went to secondary so she only had her Primary Cert (which was disbanded in 1967).
My mam is so intelligent, and it's such a shame that she had to leave school to go to work at the age of 12 to support the family.

I did the junior cert in 1992! I vaguely remember being a pioneer!!!

Peridot1 · 09/09/2024 16:46

I did the Inter Cert. In 1979.

My mum gave birth to my youngest sister just before the results came out and she came home from hospital with her the day the results came out and I remember being far more interested in seeing the baby than my results and mum and dad were convinced I’d failed as I didn’t say anything.

That baby turned 45 yesterday.

TaraMock · 09/09/2024 17:26

Aw that's a nice memory @Peridot1, happy birthday to your baby sis 🎉🥳🎂

Inter Cert 1989!

Sgtmajormummy · 09/09/2024 23:01

Inter Cert 1982.
There were three classes in our year and one class, the less academic one, was offered the Group Cert in 1981. It wasn’t given much importance so probably on the way out.
Leaving Cert 1984. We had a 30 year reunion, but not a 40th…

Sgtmajormummy · 09/09/2024 23:18

Ours was an all-girls Catholic school.

AtYourOwnRisk · 09/09/2024 23:22

Inter Cert 1987. I’m a dinosaur.

DublinFemale · 10/09/2024 07:27

Inter cert last year. 1991

I can still remember the fear drummed into us if we failed we would be have to repeat 1-3rd again.

The group was available but only for the students in the lower B bands. A band students were not allowed to do it

TheOliveGoose · 10/09/2024 22:07

I did the junior cert in 2001. I remember getting the results on Sept 12th, I remember the date clearly because the events of the previous day kind of eclipsed it for us all.

Wakemeuuuup · 10/09/2024 22:10

Inter in 1990

TaraMock · 11/09/2024 16:27

Just realised it's the anniversary today @TheOliveGoose - 23 years, wow! I've no idea what date we got our inter cert results, but you obviously had a reason to remember.

Thanks all, it's interesting to see the spread.... Inter Cert is roughly 2/3rds so far.
