Inter Cert or Junior Cert

Just wondering (roughly!) the age profile of MN users on Craicnet... so, did you do the Inter Cert or Junior Cert? Or maybe neither... 🤔

I'll start, I did the Inter Cert - I think it was in 1988.

Junior Cert in 1996.

Now there's a nightmare from the past, I think that misery put so many people off irish.

What? No Peig on Junior Cert?

How did you get away with that? Did you do inter in 1991 or were you exempt from Irish?

Yes! Definitely Leaving Cert. She was dropped at some stage.

Did not do peig in leaving either.

Heard about it but it was gone before me.

From what I heard about its misery, I was not upset.

I did Irish failed it in both inter and leaving

It was leaving cert, sorry. It was taken off in 1995 so not many people who sat junior cert had to deal with it

Oh the misery of Peig, I will remember it for the rest of my life! She had a very tough life in fairness.
I think I remember the first line in English (open to correction)... I'm an old woman now with one foot in the grave.... and that set the tone!

Leaving cert in 1993 and no Peig.

Maybe it was being phased out. I can't remember what was but it wasn't Peig.

I did the Leaving in 1992 and we did Peig.

Group cert in 87. Inter Cert in 88. I went to a rural vocational school that puched above its weight academically and the Group was just used as practice for the Inter. Also, no transition year in those days so we had state exams for three years out of five.

And oh yes, the mention of Peig still makes me shudder.

First intake of Junior cert 1992. Had to tolerate older classes ridiculing our grades because apparently they made it so easy for us!! 4As, 3Bs, 2Cs and a D. I was very happy with my results!!. DS awaiting his at the moment.

I did the Inter in 1991, the final cohort. I don’t remember a single thing about it except Romeo and Juliet and an Irish poem called “Subh Milis”.

Did the Leaving in ‘94. I did honours Irish but no Peig. We had Toraiocht Diarmuid agus Grainne instead.

I also remember 'Tóraíocht Diarmuid agus Gráinne' in 1992!

Junior Cert 1997! Leaving Cert 2000.
